Chapter 537 A Lesson
It was evident from Cayden's expression that the suspect's identity was well within his expectation. NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
His face darkened, and anger burned in his eyes.
Avery had been plotted against repeatedly and had no way of defending herself against them at all.
It was such an awful feeling.
Cayden carefully pulled the blanket over Avery. He stared at her pale face, and the overwhelming guilt he felt seemed to have surged out at that moment.
He had once promised the woman that he would give her peace and happiness, but he felt that he had broken the promise. She had only been in danger time and time again when she was with him.
Fury blazed in his eyes, and even his hands shook uncontrollably when he thought of how the venomous snake had almost bitten Avery and how the blood had flown down her body.
I don't care how powerful the culprit is this time. How dare they hurt my woman? I'll never let them off the hook so easily!
A long while passed before Cayden turned around and ordered Yuvan, “Take care of Avery.”
Yuvan had a bad feeling about the situation. “What are you going to do, Cayden?”
“I'm going to get rid of the culprit,” Cayden spat coldly. His tone was enough to cause one to shudder.
In the VIP ward, Nicole was enjoying the fruits her manager, Wendy, had cut for her while watching the television.
There had been too many scandals about her recently. In order to act like a pitiful and innocent victim, she followed Wendy's advice and stayed in the hospital. Occasionally, she would disclose to the media her self-proclaimed miserable life after being abandoned.
But in actual fact, she was living such a pleasant life.
Claire wanted to bring Nicole home to recuperate. However, every time she brought up this topic, the latter would pretend to despair, and Claire could only let her daughter be because of how much she loved her.
Claire had the impression that Nicole had been acting weird for some time now. There was an indescribable sorrow in the way the younger woman behaved. Nonetheless, Claire didn't think much of it because she thought her daughter was affected by the broken engagement.
Throughout this period, Claire had gone to her office less frequently and spent most of her time with Nicole out of fear that her daughter would do something foolish.
That morning, Claire had gone to her company to handle something urgent and was not back yet.
Wendy stayed with Nicole the whole time.
The latter was watching the shocking news on television about Avery being severely injured after a
venomous snake bit her and about Trident Group's properties being at risk once more because of this incident, causing a plunge in their stock prices.
Even though she looked calm, she was over the moon.
Even if Avery didn't die, there's no way she can keep the b*stard in her belly after getting bitten by a venomous snake!
Nicole and Wendy were chattering jubilantly when the door was suddenly kicked open.
A few men in black wearing sunglasses rushed into the room.
“Hey! Who are you? What are you doing? Don't you know the precious daughter of the state secretary is here? You—” Wendy shouted arrogantly but quickly shut her mouth when she was threatened by a dagger.
“Shut your mouth if you don't want to die!” One of the men in black was clearly impatient. He pointed the dagger at Nicole's neck and continued coldly, “You're coming with us!”
At the sight of this, Wendy quickly reached for her phone to call the police. However, the man instantly knocked her out cold, and she fell onto the ground the next second.
It was the first time Nicole had ever encountered something like this, so she was quite frightened.
She had starred in movies like this, where she was the one who was kidnapped. Who would have thought something like it would happen to her in real life?
Nicole was always cautious and showed the outside world her best side. She could not fathom who had such a huge grudge against her that they would kidnap her.
Glancing over at the already-fainted Wendy, Nicole abandoned the idea of secretly contacting her parents through her phone. She wanted to open her mouth to speak, but pain shot through the back of her head, and she fainted too.
The men acted quickly, and everything happened at the speed of light. There were few people in the second-floor VIP wards, so by the time the nurses noticed Wendy was unconscious and Nicole had been kidnapped, the car had sped away before they even had time to scream or memorize the car plate number.
Soon, Nicole was woken up when someone poured cold water on her.
She noticed that she was in an abandoned factory. Around her were rusted shelves and old, worn-out machines. Even the windows and doors were rusted and were all on the verge of collapse. Besides that, there was nothing else in her surroundings.
Whenever the wind blew, the shelves would let out a squeaking sound as if it were a scene in a horror movie.
That alone sent goosebumps all over Nicole's body.
As she thought about how she was knocked out back at the hospital, she tried to stand up but noticed that her hands and legs were tied up with ropes. There was no way she could move at all.
Fear arose, and she quickly attempted to loosen the ropes. However, someone kicked her almost immediately and said, “You'd better stay still!”
Nicole glared at the man who dared to kick her, trying her best to memorize his facial features.
No one had dared to raise their voices at her ever since she became the daughter of the Lambert family, much less beat her. However, the man was wearing sunglasses, so she could only somewhat make out his features and see his figure. Naturally, this made Nicole exceedingly bitter.
But her eyes dropped instantly when she saw the other men near her.
These men were extremely tough and strong, and their suits bulged from holding their muscles in.
Fear grew in her heart, and Nicole was at a loss.
Suddenly, the doors opened, and piercing sunlight shone through. The woman squinted instantly and saw a hulking figure walk in the next second.
The man walked over and stared down at the curled-up woman.
The moment Nicole realized it was Cayden standing before her, the stunned expression she had on instantly changed into an overjoyed one.
Her haggard face flushed red because of the happiness she felt. “Cayden, a-are you here to save me?”
Cayden raised a brow. His smile was as cold as the devil's as he replied, “Ms. Nicole, we haven't met in a few days, but you still seem high-spirited.”
Tears welled up in Nicole's eyes, and she nearly forgot about the fact that she had been kidnapped. “I haven't been well at all, Cayden. I've been so miserable these days. Why did you break off our engagement when I love you so much? Is it because I'm not good enough? I've been looking forward to seeing you visit me. Who would have thought God would answer my prayers? You still have me in your heart, don't you?”
Cayden sneered coldly at her hysteria. This woman is crazy!
He bent down slowly and lifted her trembling chin. He lifted it so high that it looked as though he was going to break her neck.
Cayden opened his mouth, and his cold voice sounded. “I'm here to save you? An evil woman like you? Do you think you deserve it?”
Right then, one of the men in black handed him a wet tissue.
Cayden took it and wiped his hand that had touched Nicole. Disgust was written all over his face as he did so. Then, once he was done, he threw the tissue into a trashcan nearby.
“You...” Nicole's face paled. She couldn't understand what he was trying to do.
Cayden stared coldly at her. A sinister smile hung on his lips as he said, “Ms. Nicole, I remember I've specifically told you not to bother my woman, haven't I?”
“What?” Nicole played dumb as she avoided his gaze. “W-What are you t-talking about, Cayden? I don't understand...”
