Chapter 536 Hostile Aura

Cayden found that tactic of causing harm to others all too familiar.

It was exactly like the time when the crazed cat suddenly attacked people while he and Avery were at Azure Royal. Due to the uncanny similarity, he couldn't help but be suspicious.

Xavier calmly analyzed the situation and said, “Boss, this kind of venomous snake is very rare in Aploth, so even if they do appear in Ackleton, they must've originated from the black market.”

Cayden narrowed his eyes and curled his lips into a cold sneer. “Contact Xander and tell him to investigate the source of the venomous snake and specific details of the transactions.”

He could vaguely guess who the mastermind was, but he didn't have any solid evidence at the moment.

If he could ascertain the mastermind to be the person he suspected, he would show no mercy.

The news of a horrifying venomous snake appearing in the mansion area of Mount Loang and injuring a security guard was suddenly spread extensively by the media.

Mount Loang mansion district was one of the high-end residential areas developed by Trident Group. Any random property there was worth hundreds of millions each. Now that such an incident had occurred, the homeowners panicked.

Some media outlets were even bought off to make a big muss about the news, accusing Trident Group's real estate properties of being shoddy and labeling Cayden as the most wicked developer in

Ackleton. They also mentioned Trident Group was blatantly disregarding the safety and lives of the homeowners after the arson committed by a housekeeper at Chartreuse Garden previously, and now the appearance of the venomous snake at the mansion area on Mount Loang.

Moreover, because of the snake attack, the media even discovered Cayden had arranged for Avery to live in one of the mansions on Mount Loang. As a result, the incident related to Avery being hospitalized after she was bitten by the snake also spread like wildfire.

Cayden had always been in the spotlight because of his recent news with Avery and the scandal with the celebrity Nicole. In addition, the housekeeper's arson case trial was about to begin. Now that another piece of sensational news like that was made known to the public, how could the media not be worked up with all those shocking revelations being circulated?

The commotion caused by the media prompted Trident Group's share price, which had recently risen, to fall again.

The media was very enthusiastic about digging into Trident Group's and Cayden's personal affairs. To uncover more buzzworthy news, the reporters even swarmed to the hospital where Avery was being treated.

Cayden was besieged by reporters in the hospital, rendering him utterly annoyed as he couldn't focus his attention on the unconscious Avery.

He decided to address the media directly, “All these so-called revelations are false. This venomous snake incident is an intentional murder attempt. Once the investigation brings light to the truth, I will give everyone a satisfactory explanation. If any media outlet dares to continue fabricating baseless

stories, I will ensure they get shut down immediately!”

The ferocity of his tone sent chills traveling down everyone's spines. The cold aura emanating from his body also terrified the reporters. Subsequently, some backed off, but some fearless media outlets still continued to report related news.

At that moment, Cayden was utterly displeased.

Avery's body was weak, to begin with. After the great shock, her fetus became unstable, and she even nearly suffered a miscarriage. Now, even Yuvan had to take extra precautions when saving the baby, fearing he might make any mistake.

Avery was in an unfavorable condition inside the ward, yet those annoying media members pestered him relentlessly like pesky flies. Naturally, Cayden was in a foul mood.

The consequence of incurring his wrath was the immediate and ruthless takedown of the media outlets that had spread the rumors.

Upon witnessing his harsh methods, all the other media members realized they had crossed a line. After weighing the pros and cons, they quickly contacted their reporters to retreat to avoid being implicated.

After all, Cayden was a man of his word, taking down those he said he would without even bothering to resort to underhanded tactics. He would openly cause his targets to go bankrupt and wouldn't stop even after they were deep in debt. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!

Because of his brutality, no one dared to challenge him head-on anymore.

In the past, the news featuring Cayden had been merely entertainment gossip meant for the public's amusement. However, now that it involved his fiancée, Avery, he couldn't possibly tolerate it.

Following his intimidation, the media disappeared from the hospital without a trace, and a peaceful ambiance was finally restored.

Xavier and Jake carried out their investigations in different directions. One focused on the black market, while the other tracked down the pesticide dealer.

Details regarding black market transactions were usually strictly confidential. Nonetheless, as Xander was in charge of the black market and was acquainted with Cayden, he lent a helping hand and quickly uncovered some useful information.

The person who purchased the venomous snake was a man named Wesley Joeson. On the surface, he appeared to be an unemployed drifter who lived off collecting protection rackets. However, upon further investigation, they discovered that Wesley had another secret identity.

He was a retired special forces soldier who had served in a special forces unit in the southeastern military. After retiring, he joined an international mercenary organization.

The most intriguing fact was that Roderick used to be his superior.

Those venomous snakes were procured by Wesley from the black market.

The investigation on the pesticide dealer's end was more troublesome because James was still in a coma. By the time they acquired information on the pesticide dealer's identity and whereabouts, it was

already two days later.

Unfortunately, the pesticide dealer seemed to have vanished from Ackleton, leaving no trace of him.

Surprisingly, there were no records of the pesticide dealer entering or leaving Ackleton. The only information available was about his stay at a luxury hotel three days ago.

If no such records were available, that could only mean the pesticide dealer had been using a fake identity, or someone had moved the information into a private folder.

After all, there was no way a living person would disappear into thin air just like that.

Meanwhile, inside the ward, Cayden pondered on that issue while wearing a pensive look.

Yuvan changed the infusion medicine for Avery and gazed at her serene sleeping face. Then, he turned to look at Cayden's solemn expression and shook his head.

He teased, “Cayden, Avery's fetus is safe now, so you can rest assured. You shouldn't be frowning all the time at such a young age. You're letting your handsome face go to waste. You're not even thirty years old, but you live like you're fifty. Is that really a good thing?”

Cayden glanced coldly at Yuvan. The latter chuckled and hastily switched the topic of conversation. “I'm just kidding. Don't take it to heart. I wonder which b*stard would try to harm someone as gentle and kind as Avery? They must be tired of living. Still, I don't understand why the culprit went through such trouble instead of simply hiring an assassin?” An assassin could've accomplished the task with a gunshot.

Yuvan couldn't fathom the culprit's intention and rationale in choosing a complicated method of using venomous snakes to harm others.

Cayden responded frigidly, “Common assassination methods are too easily detected and exposed by others. But using venomous snakes to kill someone can be passed off as an accident with slight manipulation as long as the plan is executed with care. Besides, the mastermind can also make a big deal out of it to target Trident Group.”

The culprit had probably never expected that although using the venomous snake to kill someone was convenient, animals ultimately lacked human beings' wisdom and ability to think, allowing Avery to narrowly escape death in the end.

Her survival could only be attributed to good fortune, but a person couldn't always stay lucky.

Cayden held Avery's cold hands in distress. Complicated emotions—heartache, love, and guilt— churned within him.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

Cayden answered the call. “Did you find out anything?”

Yuvan didn't know what the person on the other end of the line said, but he could feel the hostile aura around Cayden intensifying and expanding outward. In no time, his murderous intent filled the air inside the room. He gave off the vibe of a devil, causing others in his proximity to shudder.
