Chapter 2604
Soon, Nathan and Garrett were the only ones left inside the room.
"Now that there are no outsiders, we can finally talk without holding back. Answer me truthfully, Nathan. How high are the chances of Cross Group's drug treating kidney cancer?" Garrett asked.
"The drug's development is yet to be completed, but its effects are obvious. It is capable of treating kidney cancer in the early stages with ease, and there will be no recurrence. Since your cancer is in the later stages, treating it will be a lot more difficult. As my wife has told you earlier, the chances are about sixty percent."
Garrett nodded. "I suppose sixty is a high enough number."
The look on his face turned serious as he continued, "All right, enough talk about my condition. Now, let us discuss work. Nathan, in the event that I do not survive this, who do you think should take over my place as president?"Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
Nathan frowned. "I don't think you should be saying this if you're planning on getting treated. Besides, I'm not the person you should talk to regarding who takes over your place." "Well, that's exactly what I'm doing, and I want to hear your suggestion!" Garrett retorted.
"Come on, Garrett!" Nathan protested.
"I know there's a chance of me getting treated, but what if it fails? Someone has to take over when that happens!" Garrett said.
Seeing as Garrett was serious about it, Nathan fell silent for a moment before saying, "Zion Lucas has been working in the Cab for many years. Given his experience, I'd say he's a great candidate."
Garrett gave it some thought but dismissed his suggestion moments later. "Zion may be experienced, but he lacks charisma and leadership. I think he's better off being a secretary for the Cab than the president."
Nathan then listed out a few other candidates, most of them being the Great Cab members. He also recommended one of the twentyeight ministers.
However, Garrett dismissed each and every one of his suggestions.
"I've already listed out all the people that I think would make decent presidential candidates. If you don't find any of them suitable, then I don't know what else to say!" Nathan exclaimed with a wry smile.
"I have two candidates in mind. A primary candidate, and a backup candidate," Garrett said.
Nathan froze. "Who would those be?"
"My primary candidate is standing right in front of me," Garrett replied.
Nathan paused in confusion for a few seconds before realizing that Garrett was referring to him.
What? Garrett wants me to be the next president?
"Wait, are you saying that you want me to be the next president? I don't think that's a good idea, Garrett! I was raised as a soldier, so fighting and killing are all I know! The

battlefield is where I feel at home! I can't possibly handle managing a country!" he protested.
"I think you can, so why are you doubting yourself? Besides, I

actually considered you as a potential candidate when the former president, Hansel, stepped down. However, he said you were too young at the time, and that you needed a few more years to grow and mature before you were ready to become president. I think you are the most suitable person to take
over my place as the next president. Your military upbringing will allow you to be both president and Chief Military Governor at the same time. With your capability, I'm sure you'll achieve much greater success than I ever could. I believe you will be able to lead Eurasia to success!” Garrett reassured him.
Nathan was surprised, as he didn't think Garrett would think so highly of him. However, he had never thought of becoming the president, so he decided to turn Garrett's offer down by insisting that he could only fight in wars.
Garrett let out a sigh when he heard that. "Just think about it, Nathan."
"Who's the second candidate?" Nathan asked.
"Erwin Holmes, one of the ten members of the Great Cab," Garrett replied.
Nathan was shocked speechless once again.
Erwin is a rather cautious man who
ét
always maintains a low profile in everything he does. His presence is barely noticeable, and he doesn't have any unique qualities either. If anything he's practically invisible among the members of the Great Cab. Of course, the fact that he made it into the Great Cab is evidence of his capabilities. The tasks assigned to him are considered extremely difficult by others, but he has always completed them all with ease. Now that I think about it, he really has been
underestimated quite a lot!
Nathan was a little shocked as to why Garrett had chosen Erwin as a potential presidential candidate, but he soon came to realize the reasoning behind it.
Erwin's habit of keeping a low profile matches that of Garrett's perfectly.
I'm guessing he probably sees himself in Erwin and thinks Erwin will make a great president.
"Keep in mind that Erwin is merely my secondary candidate. You are my primary candidate, Nathan. Take some time to reconsider this seriously!"
