Chapter 0373
Chapter 0373
When Candice was snapped back to the present, it struck her that she had lost her calm and acted impulsively.
Darius and Henry were occupying her thoughts, and her emotions were in disarray.
Candice bit her lip and restrained her emotions. She said softly, "I'm sorry. I'm a little upset. You need to get some rest. I'll be outside if you need me."
"Who upset you?" Alex asked in a hoarse voice after a moment of silence.
His gaze was still fixated on Candice, and he waited for her response.
Candice shook her head and brushed it off. "I'm just feeling a little down."
"It shows," Alex observed.
He shut down his laptop. Then, he assumed a more relaxed posture with a calm expression. He lifted his brows a little and questioned, "Did Henry come looking for you?"
"You're reading too much into it," Candice denied.
"Is it Darius?" Alex continued to fix his gaze on her.
Candice clenched her hand and rebuked, "I already told you that it's just me feeling down."
Alex chuckled cryptically. He looked down to mask the emotions in his eyes.
After a while, he raised his gaze and asked, "Has no one ever told you that you make a lot of tiny gestures when you lie?"
Candice's fingers, which were digging into her palm, froze. She remained silent, evidently unwilling to discuss the matter further.
Alex stopped pressing an answer out of her. He took his pills and got ready to resume work.
Candice gave it some thought before she asked, "What do you think of Henry?"
"Pretentious, exaggerated, fake, sleazy, and a worthless piece of shit," Alex said without looking up.
The series of descriptions left Candice stunned. However, when she recalled the nasty content of the video, she felt that perhaps Alex wasn't wrong.
Before she could give this much thought, his voice was heard again, "Are you interested in taking a look at the things he has done over the years?"
Candice raised her gaze.
Alex added, "He has some surprises up his sleeves."
Candice didn't have to guess what Henry had in store for her after she saw the footage. She refused to disgust herself any further.
Alex arched an eyebrow and teased, "It seems like you have seen something shocking today."
Candice couldn't bear his remark; just hearing it made her want to vomit.
She covered her mouth and dashed into the restroom to retch.
Leaning over the basin, she felt as if her insides were going to spill out.
Finally, after she had regained her composure and straightened up her back, she was handed a bottle of water.
Alex waited outside the door, his dark eyes fixed on her.
Candice's eyes were brimming with tears from the nausea, which made it difficult for her to take a good look at Alex's expression. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
After a pause, she took the water from his hand and squeezed out the words of gratitude dryly.
In her daze, she heard a faint sigh.
When she took another peer outside, Alex was no longer at the door.
Alex had taken his pills.
Candice had bought it with his allergies in mind. Even so, her worries lingered about his sensitive reactions to the medicine.
With this in mind, she decided to stay on the sofa outdoors, texting with Yana and Nadia while keeping an eye on Alex. She felt sleepy after a few minutes because she had been stressed all evening.
She checked on her phone and noticed that barely ten minutes had passed.
Alex had to be monitored for an hour.
Candice was so exhausted that her temples were aching. She put her phone on the side and decided to take a fifteen-minute nap.
When Alex emerged from the room, he saw Candice snuggled up on the sofa with her eyes tightly closed, breathing softly, and deep in her slumber.
