Chapter 700 Did You Sell Yourself?
And it was not only the members of the board who knew. Exotic Star’s official website had even made an announcement. Noah was the sole inheritor of the company, and this was good news. All the jewelry under the brand was having an 88% discount. Soon, not only the internal staff but everyone in Docwood knew about it.
Desmond had left no room for Chloe to back out.
"How could you not tell us this, Ms. Chloe? We'll have to address you as Mrs. Chloe soon."
"That's right. Mr. Noah’s a good man. Many women in the office tried to woo him, but he just gave them the cold shoulder. I'm sure he'll treat you well after you guys are married."
"You're engaged to Noah?" a voice interrupted.
Chloe glanced at Frieda, who had a puzzled expression on her face. Chloe raised her eyebrows and asked, "Yeah? Anything wrong with that?"
"I'm just asking."
"Well, I believe you’ve already heard everyone talking about it, right?" All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
After Chloe’s confirmation, Frieda's brow furrowed even tighter and a hint of concern appeared in her eyes. She blurted out, "Don't you like Joseph anymore?"
Chloe was stunned. Even her colleagues looked at Frieda suspiciously. They did not understand why she was so invested in Chloe’s personal life.
Frieda realized that she had overstepped her boundaries. She calmed herself and said, "I'm just curious. I hope you don’t mind my words."
"I don't think we should be discussing my personal life in the office. Let's get back to work. Anyone who manages to seal a deal can claim a gift from me later," Chloe said, ending the conversation. She waved at the crowd and dismissed them.
Throughout the morning, Frieda anxiously glanced toward Chloe's office several times. As lunchtime approached, she finally went into the restroom and called someone.
Meanwhile, the high-level executive of Fairlight watched Joseph's face turn dark upon receiving a phone call. They looked at each other, wondering who had called Joseph and what they had said. They even began to contemplate the possibility of Fairlight going bankrupt.
"Lucas," Joseph said through gritted teeth.
"Yes, Mr. Joseph?"
"Cancel all my afternoon meetings."
Lucas was taken aback but he did not voice his objection. He simply nodded and complied with the order.
Joseph felt as if there was a huge boulder sitting on his chest. He loosened his tie and threw it on the table, saying coldly, “Today’s meeting is over.”

At noon, Chloe went downstairs to buy lunch. When she received the takeaway box from the vendor and was about to get her wallet, a tall figure appeared and loomed over her. She did not mind it as she thought it was another customer. After handing the money to the vendor, she glanced to her left and looked eyes with Joseph. He was staring at her angrily, while she maintained an innocent expression.
"What's going on between you and Noah?"
"It's none of your business."
"Don't push your luck, Chloe."
If it were not for their past connection, he would not be bothered to care for her at all.
Chloe was speechless. "We no longer have any ties to each other, so what gives you the right to speak to me in this accusatory tone?"
Joseph's face sank. "Do you like Noah?"
"Of course, I do. He's handsome, successful, and single. He's far better than you in every aspect. Why wouldn't I hold onto him tightly? Why should I wait?" Chloe retorted.
The anger inside Joseph burned brighter. He took a step closer to her and his voice turned icy cold. "Did you sell yourself to get the marketing manager position?"
