Chapter 699 Taking Action Before Consulting Her
Chapter 699 Taking Action Before Consulting Her
Chloe was half awake as she glanced at her phone. She suddenly saw something that caused her to spring up from the bed. As her mind gradually cleared, she looked at her phone again before setting it aside to freshen up.
During breakfast, Desmond frowned and said, "I saw the announcement from the Whitman Group. Joseph seems to be siding with you."
This was not a good thing. Rather than siding with Chloe, Desmond hoped that Joseph would fall out with them. After all, the Sullivans were a powerful family. It would save Chloe and Noah a lot of unnecessary trouble when they got married later.
Taking a bite of her sandwich, Chloe said nonchalantly, "Is it possible that Joseph isn't taking my side, but rather, he has been wanting to cut ties with Xavia for a long time? Besides, this will benefit his son too."
The press release stated three points. First, Joseph and Xavia were never married and their child was raised solely by Joseph. Second, both parties never interfered in each other's relationships and were independent individuals. Third, this agreement was reached five years ago. It was not made in the spur of the moment.
The statement clearly laid down the line between Joseph and Xavia. However, the articles about Xavia had disappeared, and it was obvious who was behind it. While he was cutting ties with her, he helped her to clean up her mess. Chloe wondered if he was doing this because of Jasper or something else.
Desmond did not argue with Chloe's viewpoint. After contemplating for a while, he said, "Chloe, come to my study after you’re done with breakfast."
"Okay."
Noah had been sitting there quietly. His eyes gleamed with understanding as he turned his gaze toward Desmond.
Inside the study, Desmond looked at Chloe and asked, "What do you think of Noah?"
"He's good. In terms of character, appearance, and family background, he's outstanding among his peers.” Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
"I think you two are quite compatible. If you two get married, you'll have more time to spend with me," Desmond said.
Chloe froze and understanding dawned upon her. She replied, "Grandpa, Noah treats me well, but compared to a romantic relationship between lovers, we lack that spark."
"Isn't treating you well good enough?" Desmond countered, "Feelings can be cultivated. Will you find someone more suitable than Noah to marry?"
At the beginning of a relationship, there might be novelty and love, but as time went on, love transformed into familial affection. That was where the real test began. Rather than finding someone she loved, it was better to find someone who loved her.
Chloe lowered her gaze and pondered. Desmond was right. It would be challenging for her to find someone more outstanding and suitable than Noah. Besides, she had learned to enjoy being single and did not have a strong desire for a romantic relationship.
Watching her contemplate in silence, Desmond took a sip from his teacup and said, "There’s a good date at the end of this month. You and Noah can get engaged then. We can discuss further details later."
"Grandpa, I—"
"It's decided then. Trust me, all the choices I make are in your best interests," Desmond said.
Before he passed away, he wanted to find someone who his granddaughter could rely on.

After leaving the study, Chloe went to Exotic Star with Noah. He did not ask anything, and she did not volunteer any information. But as soon as they arrived at the office, they ran into Nigel Hall.
He smiled at them and said, "Congratulations, guys. I'll prepare a big gift for you by month’s end."
"How did you know?" Chloe was surprised. She had not even told Noah yet.
"Mr. Desmond told us. He said the invitation will be sent out this afternoon. Don't be shy, Ms. Chloe."
Chloe covered her face. She had not expected Desmond to take action before consulting her.
