Alexa

The hated alarm clock sounded, which meant that it was a new day, and it was time to wake up. After yesterday’s conversation with Arthur and his desire to make scenes from my novel come true with me, I realized one thing for myself: I didn’t want to see him or talk to him anymore. He was just starting to lose his mind. I confessed my own desire to have sex with him, but no more. It was just my instinct that kicked in, because he really turned me on and annoyed me yesterday. When I wrote and described all the scenes in the novel, I didn’t think it could be so catchy, especially for a proper guy like Arthur. When I was writing and describing all the scenes in the novel, I didn’t think it would catch on so well, especially for a straight guy like Arthur. He’ll find a girl for himself that he can do well with. And it certainly won’t be me.

Where’s my phone? It’s nowhere to be found. Did I leave it at Arthur’s? No, not that! I started to talk in a panic, but when I went into the kitchen to make my morning coffee, I saw it on the table. When I picked it up, I saw that I had a lot of missed calls and messages, and most of them were from Arthur:

5:00, “Alexa, I’m sorry.”

5:10. “I had a few too many last night. It happens.”

6:00: “Honestly, I don’t regret it. I told you, I want you very much. Why can’t you do it? What are you afraid of? You’ve already lost your friend, just like I’ve lost my friend. So what do we do now? Resist our desires and pretend that passion didn’t flare up between us yesterday?”

What is he talking about? I told him I was attracted to him, or did he forget that?

All right, I’ll text him too, and hopefully after that he’ll forget about me.

“Arthur, you’re not for me. You are incapable of getting me and satisfying me the way I want you to. I’m sorry about that, but it’s true. My skin does not burn from your touch as it does with the men I desire. ”

That’s it, hit the “send” button and the message would soon reach its recipient.

Five minutes have passed and there is no response from him. That’s good. The boy has realized that I’m out of his league. It’s the right thing to do,” I thought, and got dressed. I put on my black dress and patent leather shoes, and I put on bright red lipstick. After all, today I have a new meeting and a new interview with a very rich and powerful man who created his own media corporation – Mr. Gilbert Lancaster. He is thirty-eight years old, unmarried, no children. He has a fortune of over twenty billion dollars. I have to conduct the interview so that I would wake up in his bed in the morning. Or at least be invited to a nightclub or restaurant.

I’m a cynical and calculating bitch, I know. And I don’t see that as a disadvantage, but rather as a plus. Arthur is useless to me, even though he’s younger and sexier. But no more.

Suddenly my phone was ringing, someone was calling me.

“Yeah.”

“Hi, sweetie. It was my mom. She always calls when I’m in a hurry.”

“Hi. Mom, I’m in a hurry, what did you want to tell me?”

“My father and I have been living in Houston for two years and you never came to see us. When are you coming to visit?”

“You know I’m very busy. I have interviews and articles every day.”

” I understand, but sometimes, you can spare at least one day, give us one damn day to visit your elderly parents.”

“Don’t exaggerate, you’re still young. As soon as I have some free time, I’ll be sure to fly over. After all, you’re not too far from my place. ”

“That’s where your father wanted to go.”

“My father didn’t think about the environment of the city. It’s completely polluted, you have a lot of chemical plants and two big oil refineries.”

“Alexa, New York isn’t the perfect city to live in either. ”

“It’s the perfect city for opportunity. There’s a lot of opportunity here, and you and your father know that very well.”

“About that, Alexa, Arthur’s mother called us. She says you’re doing some bad things there.”

“That’s interesting, what kind of things?”Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

“She thinks you’re a prostitute. And your goal is not to make a career, but to seduce men who are profitable for you.”

“And you believe that?”

“Alexa, you don’t want to get married, why?”

“Because I don’t love anyone.”

“And Arthur?”

“What about Arthur? We’re just friends.”

“You don’t have any girlfriends, don’t you think it’s time to stop being so cynical?”

“Mom, I don’t have any friends because my best friend betrayed me, and after her I vowed to be friends only with men.”

“Not everyone is like that, Alex, like Lily. And it’s been over ten years.”

“So what? It was a lifelong lesson. At least men are honest about their preferences and judgments, unlike women. And they don’t stab you in the back when you’re not expecting it.”

“Alex, we raised you differently.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t live up to your expectations,” I shouted into the phone and turned it off. My mother now made me remember an episode of my life that I’d been trying to forget for a very long time. My adolescence-the first love, the first disappointment, the first betrayal. And something else, something terrible, that I would absolutely hate to remember now. After what happened to me, I reconsidered my whole life, made certain conclusions and moved on with my life, shielding myself from people. At the age of fifteen I went to Metropolitan College in New York, where I graduated with honors in Business and Social Sciences with a degree in Communication and Media Studies. Then I successfully enrolled at Columbia University in the Department of Journalism. It was here that I met Artur, who was a second-year international relations student. From that day on, our friendship was born,” I thought back and looked at my watch.

Oh, no! I’m late for my interview with Mr. Lancaster. Well, I’ve got to run!
