White Wolf’s Curse

Chapter 16

GRAY

I shift and watch her walk all the way back to her house. She is beautiful. I didn’t see it at first but she is. I know it sounded jaded or jealous when I smelled Trey on her, but it pissed me off. Not because it was Trey but because it was anyone. It’s like I don’t want anyone near her. His scent was all over her skin. That means he was really close.

I ran back to my house. Surprisingly our houses are close together. You would figure over the years they would have moved away from each other, but they didn’t. It was like they had to keep an eye on each other. When I step into the back room I barely have my pants on when my sister barges into the room. “There you are. Mom was looking for you. Not that she cares about my bad day, no, only where you are.”Content © NôvelDrama.Org.

“I heard, it must have sucked.” I give her a mock concerned face. Because honestly she deserved it.

“It was the worst. No one was on my side.”

“Maybe if you weren’t such a bitch to everyone all the time.” I point out.

She rolls her eyes at me. “I have to be. How else am I going to get people to do what I say?”

“How about you be nice to them?” Duh.

“No, that doesn’t work. Haven’t you heard the phrase nice guys finish last?”

“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean they don’t get it done. Plus I am pretty sure an asshole told that one. For an example there was this bridge out once. I saw it in a documentary. Anyway it was out right at the top of the crest so the cars couldn’t see it. Cars kept going over the edge into the river below. Eventually someone noticed and stopped, but I am pretty sure those people were grateful to be last.”

“Shut up.” She sneers at me.

“I am giving you valuable life information here.”

“You are so stupid.”

“Whatever.” I shrug and head in to see my mom. I found her in the kitchen again. I know she bakes when she is stressed. Pretty sure I made her that way. “Hey, mom, what’s up?”

“Were you with that girl again?”

“What do you mean?” She doesn’t answer, she just gives me a look, the look that means don’t bullshit me, just answer the question. “Yeah, I was.”

“It is not a good idea. This could end really bad for you. I don’t want to see you hurt. Please can you just stay away from her for me.”

I shake my head. “I can’t mom. She isn’t what you think. I am sure if you met her you would see that.”

“She is one of them.”

“So, we don’t let it bother us. You shouldn’t either.”

“I am just worried about you.”

“I’m not worried. I am careful and she doesn’t let anyone know that we are meeting or where. Which is exactly why I am not telling you where we meet.”

“I could just follow your scent and find out.”

“Would you really invade my privacy like that?”

“I’m just saying they could do the same thing.”

“But they don’t. It’s fine.”

She sighs. “Any sign of trouble you get your ass out of there.”

“Yes mom.”

“Good.”

At least she left it there. She could have made more of a fuss. She is my mom. I am a bit relieved that she knows I am a grown adult and I can make my own choices.
