Chapter 30
Cynthia POV
I check the screen of my phone for the eleventh time, and I sigh briefly. I have been waiting for Asher to come to meet me for the past fifteen minutes, and he's not yet here. I invited him to go with me to my ex-boyfriend's birthday party, which he promised to be here. I just hope he doesn't disappoint me because this means so much to me. I will lose face. Before I broke up with that bastard, I told him that I would show up at his thirtieth birthday with my boyfriend that will be hotter and more handsome than he is, and I need to fulfill my promise.
After what seems like forever, he finally shows up, and even though he's late, I'm still so happy that he was at least able to make it. I may lose my mind if he didn't show up.
"I'm sorry I came late. I had to deal with something," He hops out of the car and walks over to open the door for me.
"Thank you. It doesn't matter, since you're here," I reply to him.
"You look sweet tonight, by the way," He winks at me as he hops inside the car, and I blush.
"Thank you," I reply to him. The drive to the party finally began.
As he drives down the road, the thought 9f Alex, my ex-boyfriend fills my mind, and I keep wondering what he looks like now. He was my first boyfriend whom I loved so much with everything in me and gave my virginity to him. We dated in high school when I was still sixteen, and we broke up when we graduated since he traveled out of the country to pursue his dream.
After him, I dated two other motherfuckers, and because they couldn't fill the vacuum Alex left in my heart, I had to break up with them. Six years later, Alex came back and I was so happy. I thought our relationship was not going to work out again, but somehow, we got entangled again and started from where we stopped.C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
Alex was the sweetest man any woman would ever wish to have in their life. He treated me so well, but if only I had known that those were nothing, as he was only doing that to get into my pantie again, and do what he wanted with me. We dated for two years, and on his twenty-eighth birthday, I prepared a gift for him, but I was shocked when I got to the party that night, and he proposed to another woman even after he had sex with me the previous day. I ended things with him for real, and the bastard didn't even feel remorseful about it.
'How do you expect me to be with someone like you? You can't even fend for yourself' his words even though it has been so many years, are still buried in my heart and hurting me every time I thought of them. He broke up with me and started life with a wealthy girl because he felt like I was poor and couldn't offer him anything. I was so broken for the next few months, but eventually, I realized that he was right. I gathered my life together and moved on, I made up my mind that I was never going to be with any other man again. Over the past two years, I have met a few men that were ready to be with me, but I was never interested. I just hate all of them, but Asher, he is an exception.
"You're good? Why are you crying?" Asher's voice brings me back to reality, and that is when it occurs to me that I already have tears in my eyes.
"No... Nothing, I'm fine," I reply to him, and he stares at me suspiciously for seconds before he focuses his attention on the road again.
"Do you want to tell me something? I'm listening," He further utters, but I shake my head for the second time. As much as I want to tell him my pain, I also don't want to look pathetic, I don't want him to think that I'm using him to get back at my ex-boyfriend.
"No, not really," I reply to him, and he nods his head again.
It takes us an hour and a half before we finally arrive at the villa where the party is hosted, and as we step out of the car, I suddenly become nervous. For some seconds, I feel like I shouldn't have come here in the first place, I feel like it's not worth it, but then, I have to prove my word to him, and fulfill my promise.
As we walk side by side toward the building, Asher suddenly holds my hand tightly, making me feel a bit safe and calm.
"Thank you," I whisper to him.
"You are my girlfriend, so it's what I should do," He replies to me casually, and I nod my head.
Stepping into the building, I look around the place. There is a good number of guests around, and waiters are busy serving the guests.
"Come here," He leads me to one of the sets of chairs, and pulls it out for me like the gentleman he is.
"Thank you," I smile at him before I sit on it.
I watch as he stares around the place like he's looking for someone, and I can't help but wonder what he's looking for.
"Are you looking for someone?" I ask him, and he tilts his head to look at me.
"Yes. Adelie should be here," He replies to me, and I squint my eyebrows.
"She's here? She didn't tell me she would be coming here," I utter surprisingly, and he shrugs.
"I guess her boss invited her," He replies to me, and I nod my head. I have noticed something unusual between boss and Adelie lately, but I haven't asked her what is going on between them. I need to be sure first. "Oh," I utter, not knowing what to say.
"I will be back. I need to use the restroom," He says to me as he stands up to his feet, and leave quickly, not even waiting for me to reply to him.
"Waiter!" I call out to one of the waiters, and he walks over to me. I grab one of the tall wine glasses on the tray he's holding and sip from it.
"Sorry, ma'am, you can't have that. It's for the celebrant," He says to me politely, and I scoff. If he has mentioned someone else, I would've considered dropping it, but Alex? Hell no!
"And why can't I have it, because it belongs to the celebrant?" I ask him as I finally stand up to my feet.
"Don't be rude and drop it, ma'am," He utters, trying to sound polite.
"You're the one being rude here. I like the wine, and I want to have this. You can tell the celebrant, or get something else for him to drink," I reply to him sarcastically, but he snatches the drink from me, spilling it on my cloth. "What is going on here?" Asher's deep voice sounds from behind us, but I'm just too pissed to even say a word. Tears stream down my cheeks since people have started throwing glances at me.
"The guest is being rude. I told her that the drink is for the celebrant, but she insisted that she wanted it," The waiter explains to Asher.
"Is that why you spilled it on her?" He thunders angrily at the waiter, and even I flinch fearfully as I raise my gaze to look at him.
"I was..."
"How dare you do that to my woman, you bastard?" He thunders for the second time, as he grabs one of the glasses, and empties the wine on the waiter before he smashes the glass on the floor. "How does it feel like?" The corner of his lips slowly twitches into a smirk as he takes another one from the waiter passing by.
"Don't you ever mess with my woman next time," He roars at him, before he throws the glass at him, getting him injured in the forehead.
"What is going on here?" Alex's voice sounds from behind us...
