Under the Heiress' Facade

Chapter 624

A frown fell across Hera's face.

"He tried to commit suicide?" she repeated after the maid.

"What happened? Why would he do that?" Gemma asked, anxious.

The maid answered, "Mr. Roman didn't want to admit that he was wrong, so he jumped into the lake. Someone has already called the ambulance. Ms. Karen wants me to take you to him and see if he's okay."

Roman tried to take his own life by jumping into the lake? He knew how to swim, didn't he?

"Did he admit that he was the one who swapped the drugs?" Hera asked.

"No. Ms. Karen asked everyone to head over to the pavilion by the lake. Mr. Roman said he wanted to go to the loo, but then he threw himself into the lake."

How interesting.

"Let's go, then. Which hospital was he taken to?" Hera followed the maid.

"Silverleaf Hospital."

Hera followed the maid to the car and headed to the hospital.

Karen, Aurora, Linda, Talia, and a few other maids waited anxiously outside the operating room.

"Hera, please save Roman. He's still so young. He can't just die like this," Aurora pleaded with Hera.

Although Roman might have been the one who swapped the drugs, Aurora couldn't bear the thought of him passing away just like that.

Later, Hera asked a doctor about Roman's condition. The medical staff at the Silverleaf Hospital knew Hera. The operation began not long ago, so they agreed to provide her with scrubs. After changing into the scrubs, Hera entered the operating room.

An hour later, the doors of the operating room opened.

Aurora, with a hand placed protectively on her belly, asked, "Doctor, how is Roman?"

The first doctor who came out of the operating theater was a male doctor. Taking off his mask, his expression was grim when he said, "Sorry, we tried our best."

Shock washed over Aurora like a tidal wave, making her sway. Seeing this, Talia quickly stepped forth to help her steady herself.

"Ms. Aurora, are you okay?" Talia's voice was traced with worry. "Please calm down."

"Aury," said Karen, also rushing to Aurora's side.

"Roman's gone, Mom," Aurora mumbled, her voice quivering. "He's gone... He's still so young. Why did he die?"

Hera exited the operating room just

in time to see Karen comforting and

wrapping her arms around a weeping Aurora. Meanwhile, Linda stood beside the two of them with the ghost of a smile on her face.

As opposed to what Aurora felt, Linda was very much relieved to learn that Roman was now dead. No one would be suspicious of Linda anymore.

All of a sudden, she felt someone's intense gaze on her. Raising her eyes, she met Hera's gaze.

Hera's eyes were sharp. It was as if her stare could pierce through anything and everything.

Linda's heart skipped a beat. An idea

popped into her mind, and she

jabbed a finger at Hera and hollered

"Aren't you the miracle doctor

everyone keeps talking about? Why couldn't you save Roman? If

If you can

save a comatose patient, why

couldn't you save him?"

She continued to bombard Hera with endless questions. "You did it on purpose, didn't you? You didn't want to save him!"

The male doctor was a fan of Hera's,

so when he heard those accusations and derogatory remarks, he snapped, "It has nothing to do with her skills! The patient was as good as dead when he arrived!"

Linda wasn't about to back down."Why did the operation last so long, then? It took so long, but you people couldn't even save him!"

The male doctor was furious. He wanted to snap back at Linda, but Hera tapped him lightly on the shoulder and said, "Calm down. You can leave and take the body away with the others."

Only then did the male doctor turn to leave.

"Are you sure you wished Roman could live?" said Hera, approaching Linda.

"What do you mean by that? Aury and I treated Roman like family although he was adopted. Of course, I want him to live," Linda seethed.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

A bark of laughter escaped Hera's lips. Linda became unsettled because of it, and her guts told her that Hera knew something.

It became apparent to Linda that she couldn't allow Hera to live much longer.

While Linda was still immersed in her thoughts, Hera suddenly reached over to yank the scarf away from Linda's neck.

It happened so quickly that Linda couldn't react in time. "Why did you take my scarf?"

She hastily snatched the scarf back from Hera's hand. But as quick as Linda was, Hera had already caught a glimpse of the scar on Linda's neck.
