Chapter 31
Chapter 31
A sharp pain came from her right hand, and she saw blood flowing back, dyeing the entire IV tube red.
She connected her phone to the internet and saw several trending topics popping up. At this moment, Izabella was like a rusty machine, slow and unresponsive. With trembling fingers, she clicked on a video of someone jumping off a building.
As soon as she opened the video, she heard ear-piercing screams, and the screen was chaotic. Surrounding her were continuous noises, cries, and screams of women and children. In just a few seconds of the video, Izabella saw too much.
Her heart felt like it had been gouged out with a blunt knife, desolate. She wanted to stop herself, but her brain forced her to continue watching.
And then...
She saw Alan lying in a pool of blood.
"Ah..." Izabella opened her mouth, and her hoarse throat let out a sob. Her emaciated shoulders trembled violently. It was as if her soul had left her body, floating in midair, watching herself holding her phone and trembling like a withered leaf, about to be torn apart by the wind at any moment.
"Izabella." Someone was calling her. She looked up blankly, her empty eyes full of fear and despair, somewhat creepy.
Seeing Brett walking towards her, Izabella looked horrified and tried to get up from her wheelchair like a madwoman.
But she was weak, and before she could stand up straight, she fell to her knees, knocking over the wheelchair too. The force of the IV pulling on the back of her hand tore the skin and flesh.
Blood dripped onto the white floor, strikingly visible.
The noise instantly attracted everyone's attention in the hall. They all looked towards her, only to see a woman with her head down, lying on the ground in a mess. They couldn't see her face, only her trembling, frail body, the white floor stained with a mixture of medicine and blood. What a painful sight.
Some people wanted to help, but Brett had already sprinted to Izabella's side.
"How can you be so stupid?" Brett's tone was disdainful, but he reached out to lift her up.
Izabella suddenly pushed Brett away with force, slapped him, and screamed, "Brett, my dad jumped off a building!"
Alan would jump off a building? A wimpy man like him would do that?
Brett couldn't believe it, but Izabella's desperate tears seemed to be enough of a confirmation.
Brett's indestructible heart kept sinking, and a sense of panic struck him.
If Alan really died, then he and Izabella... he suddenly didn't dare to think further.
Izabella cried her heart out, unable to shake off the last words her father said to her.
"Brett, I hate you! You killed my dad!" From a roar to a choked sob, she whimpered, distraught.
Brett's heart tightened; this was the first time he heard Izabella say she hated him. His heart felt like it was being squeezed tighter and tighter.
Brett squatted down, holding Izabella's trembling body, "Izabella, I'll take you to see your dad, he'll be fine, trust me."
"Brett, why should I believe you? You've told me yourself that you're a liar, how can I believe you?!" Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
She thought that by giving up her pride and begging on her knees, she could save her father's life. But he...
Even if Alan didn't love her or care for her, he was still her family, her father. But now... everything was gone.
Izabella's pale face now lost all color, her body trembling violently. Even as Brett held her tightly, he could still feel her life force ebbing away.
Leaning on his shoulder, she opened her mouth and bit down. She used all her strength to hurt Brett, but for him, it was nothing.
Izabella's body was weak, and in a moment, she lost all her strength. She leaned helplessly on Brett's shoulder, her tears soaking his suit.
Izabella's voice trembled as she sobbed, "Brett, how can you be so cruel?"
