Chapter 8
Chapter 8
At that moment, Katherine felt like her head was spinning and she could literally feel herself breathe twice faster.
Trying to calm herself before she had panic attacks, Kathie took two deep breaths after which she turned back to face her mother.
“What did you just say?” She managed to ask boldly, silently praying that She heard wrong.
“Oh please, I’m sure you heard me.” Beatrice rolled her eyes at her daughter.
“Which Oliver?”
“Are you kidding me right now? How many Oliver do we know? Oliver Gusto of course.”
“What the fuck, Mom?” Katherine literally raised her voice at Beatrice.
Before Bea could say anything else, Kathie interrupted.
“Didn’t we finalize the guest lists and everything? Didn’t you say you wanted a small and erotic wedding? What the actual fuck, Mom?”
“Are you okay? Why do you sound really upset? The last time I checked it was my wedding so why do I need your permission to invite who the hell I want?”
“Oh, you might as well invite all your exes and their family so you can have a proper fucking reunion.”
“I still don’t understand why you have a problem with my decision.”
“You’ve had about two weddings after divorcing Oliver’s father. Why the hell do they have to be here? It may be your fucking wedding but I’m your daughter and I have a say in it too.”
“So you expect me to be enemies with my exes?”
“Then tell me why they have to be at the wedding? Is Andre even cool with that?” She referred to her mother’s soon-to-be husband.
“It still doesn’t change the fact that you’re overreacting over nothing.”
“Overreacting over nothing?”
“Yes, you are. Not that I owe you any explanation but Charles and I reconnected months ago. We talk on the phone when we are less busy. He called me recently and since it was all in the middle of my wedding preparations, I extended an invite. What wrong did I do with that?”
“He said he won’t be able to make it because of some business stuff but Oliver would attend on his behalf and he would be sending a gift for me. I can’t wait to see what the gift will be.” She cooed.
“You disgust me, Mom.”
“For God’s sake, Katherine, You are a mother of three already, Can you stop behaving like a brat?”
“You know what? I’m done with this bullshit. Count me out from attending your wedding.”
“You must be joking.”
“I mean it,”
“But what the hell is wrong with you? Are you this pissed because Oliver would be in attendance?”
“I thought you would be thanking me for inviting the brother you never had but you’re here talking to me in an unruly manner and threatening not to show up for the wedding.”
“Oh please, I have no siblings.”Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“This is so strange to me. Weren’t you and Oliver friends, or fuck buddies or whatever the hell you guys were doing then?”
“You mean your fuck buddy.” Katherine spat
Beatrice smiled. “Oliver Gusto is an amazing guy. The best stepson I ever had. Not only is he good- looking, but he’s also very intelligent, charming, calm and has a good sense of humor. I miss all those times when we will sit on the balcony and talk all night. But because I was married to his father, He didn’t want anything to do with me Sexually.”
Katherine glared at her mother as she spoke so passionately about Oliver.
“I wish I met him before I got married to his father.”
“Oh, so you would have gotten married to him? Someone old enough to be your son?” Katherine chuckled, “I’m not surprised.”
“Age is just a number, darling. Love and attraction are all it takes. I honestly can’t wait to see him again. I’m sure he would have gotten more handsome..”
“Yeah, you might as well fuck him in the bathroom too. To hell with you and the wedding!” Katherine rolled her eyes at her mother before making her way upstairs.”
“Where are you headed? We still have things to discuss.” Kathie heard her Mother yell from downstairs but she paid no attention.
By the time Katherine got to her room and locked the door behind her, her eyes were heavy with tears already.
She kicked off her heels, opened her purse and with shaky hands brought out her phone.
Unlocking it, She went to her call log and dialed the number she spoke to last.
Kathie paced up and down the room with her phone glued to her ear and the other hand running through her hair as the phone rang.
“Goddd, I’ve been waiting for your call. Been dying of anxiety. Now tell me everything, don’t leave any detail.”
“He proposed,” Katherine answered her best friend in a distressed voice.
“I knew it, babe!!!! It’s high time you both fucking take this huge step. But why do you sound like you’re not happy about it? Wait, you rejected the proposal?”
“You know how much I love Lewis. I was paranoid about it but I can’t imagine living the rest of my life without him so I said YES.”
“But that’s not the point Michie, My mom just gave me the worst news ever.”
“What news? Don’t tell me she’s up about her wedding again.”
“I honestly do not give a fuck about it anymore. She just told me Oliver is going to be at the wedding.”
“What the...??”
“Yeah!” Katherine ran a hand over her face as she continued pacing up and down her room.
“Why? I mean how come? Why is his presence so important? How did that even happen? Does she keep in touch with all her exes?”
“My mom’s just a psycho. I know she’s capable of doing shit but she just went extreme with this. She and Charles reconnected some months ago so She invited him to the wedding. He said he
won’t be able to attend but Ollie will be coming over.”
“Should I pack my bags and take my kids for a mini vacation and we will be back when the whole wedding is over?”
“Calm down, Kathie. Where will you guys go?”
“I don’t know. Anywhere far away from here, from mother, from Oliver, from the wedding.”
She heard Michelle heave a long sigh.
“It’s been seven years, babe. Don’t you ever want him to know about it?”
“I thought we already talked about this, Michie. Sophie, Samuel and Sebastian are mine only.”
“You can only control situations because they are still young and clueless about everything. Don’t you think they will hate you when they grow up for keeping them away from their father?”
“Don’t make me the bad person here, Michie. All I ever did and all I’m still doing is for their good. Oliver doesn’t give a fuck and he never will so it doesn’t make any sense.”
“You shouldn’t make decisions for him, babe.”
“But it’s the truth. You’ve not met Oliver before so you wouldn’t know. He literally hates kids. He gets irritated by them and I bet you he wouldn’t accept the triplets. I would rather protect them than let them face some sort of rejection from him.”
“I understand you, babe. I understand your need to protect my god babies but I still think Oliver has a right to know about their existence. Then it’s up to him to decide if he wants to be in their lives or not.”
“It’s just so messy out there Michelle. I really don’t want my kids to get involved with Oliver’s lifestyle. The media and all. He’s literally in front of every weekly magazine in Australia, switching babes and all. He’s always the talk of the whole country.”
“Wait, you're stalking him? Since when? But you told me you had no idea where he lived since your mom divorced his father.”
“No, I don’t stalk him. It was about two years ago that I found out. When I traveled to Australia for a conference. His face was all over magazines in the supermarket for the seven days I was there. Of course, I was shocked to know about it. I surfed him on the internet and found a lot of shitty stories about him and his father. I don’t want that life for my beautiful kids. We are just fine without him.”
“Not attending the wedding really means your mom will have to find another bridesmaid?”
“At this point, I honestly don’t care about the wedding. Mom is annoying as hell. I can’t continue to keep up with her when all she does is humiliate me. Maybe it’s high time I moved out of the mansion and found us a home.”
“You’re really upset now and I don’t want you to make any decision. Just take a shower and get to bed. The wedding is still a couple of days away. I’m sure you will come up with a perfect plan before then. You don’t have to travel too. You can bring my god babies to my place; I will be glad to look after them until the wedding is over. That way you can attend your mother’s wedding without raising any suspicion. What do you think about that?”
Katherine heaved a long sigh as she plopped down at the edge of her bed.
