promise you won’t break it
Letta immediately ran to her room upon returning from Arabella’s boutique. She took off all her clothes and stepped into the shower, dousing her entire body with cold water to alleviate the trembling sensation. Letta closed her eyes, hoping to find calm within herself.
But that wasn’t what Letta found. As all her past memories were now vividly etched in her mind, her encounter with Merry truly drew her back to the Past. All the faces she had once forgotten slowly resurfaced in her memory: her aunt, Miti, Mia, Abian, Merry, and Sean. The people she had previously forgotten were now vividly visible. She recalled their beaming smiles.
Yet, it wasn’t just that which made Letta feel her entire body shudder. It was how her initial encounter with a certain Marco, who had since been shaping her life, surfaced in her mind. Letta clenched her fists tightly. The man she had considered her protector, the one who had provided her with warm embraces, turned out to be the mastermind behind all the destruction in her life. She had lost the good people around her.
Letta had also lost her first child, experiencing all the terrible events in the small bathroom behind this house. Now, she could feel where the suffocation and fear originated from, yet her husband seemed to be blessed by all the events that made her forget everything. He seemed to be a savior. Yet behind it all, he was the demon who completely shattered her life.
Letta couldn’t even shed tears. Whether it was because her tears had dried from crying in the past or because Letta felt her tears were too precious to cry for the husband she loved. Yet, that feeling of love now seemed to overlap with the hatred she had previously felt. The warmth she usually felt from love now felt suffocating as she recalled the terrible things Marco had inflicted upon her.
Letta hadn’t revealed it to Arabella, when suddenly she felt like she had regained all her memories. Letta merely asked Arabella to take her home because Letta couldn’t hide her expression from Arabella, and meeting Marco face to face still seemed beyond her ability to contain her anger.
So now, Letta tried to cool her mind. If she could, Letta would scream right now, she would want to cry out loud. But all of that seemed to evaporate, leaving only a burning anger that now seemed to scorch her heart and body. The cold water that now drenched her entire body hoped to help Letta think about how to free herself from the suffocating feeling and the hatred she now felt. Yet, what made Letta’s thinking even heavier was Freya’s presence among them at this moment. If Letta didn’t have her child, it would be easy for Letta to leave with her, to leave her husband. But it wasn’t easy.
Letta had to figure out how she and Freya could escape Marco’s grasp without his knowledge, and how to repay all the pain she had endured. Letta wasn’t sure if the love and all the expressions of love Marco had professed were true to her, or if they were just excuses to cover up all the wrongs he had done to her.
Letta’s thoughts were interrupted when someone suddenly knocked on her door, causing Letta to jolt slightly.
“Honey, are you in there?” Even hearing that heavy voice made the fire that had seemingly scorched her body earlier feel very hot again, prompting Letta to pat her chest, which felt very painful.
“Are you in the shower?” Marco asked again, causing Letta to finally try to control her breath so she could manage her expression in front of Marco, because right now Letta wasn’t going to tell Marco that she had regained her memories. Letta wanted to see what her husband would do to her, whether he would continue to deceive her with all those repulsive acts of kindness.
“I’m showering, I’ll be out in a moment,” Letta replied, looking at the deliberately locked door.
“Then I’ll wait for you. We need to talk,” Marco said, leaving Letta speechless. Letta then turned off the cold water tap that had been drenching her body, stepped out, looked at herself in front of the large mirror, and saw her doll-like figure. Had Marco really considered her just a doll to play with, making Letta truly resent the man who was now her husband?
A few minutes later, when Letta felt she could compose herself for the meeting with Marco, she finally stepped out of the bathroom, seeing Marco engrossed in his phone, glancing up at her. After that, he gave her the warm smile he always gave Letta. Perhaps if Letta hadn’t regained her memories, it would have been the most effective remedy to calm her down. But this time, for some reason, that smile felt like a threat, a threat to make her play the role she needed to play.
“You’re here?” Letta asked, making Marco nod his head.
“Yes, even though I told you, ‘It’s better to wait at Arabella’s boutique. I’ll pick you up,” Marco said, making Letta shake her head.
“Yes, I was too bored listening to all of Arabella’s stories about all her clothes and fashion. At first, I was interested, but after a while, it seemed that wasn’t my thing, so it made mea little dizzy,” Letta said, making Marco smile.
“For that reason, in the future, don’t meet with Arabella anymore. She won’t stop talking about all the fashion and clothes she owns, and anything related to Paris,” Marco said, reaching out his hand to gently stroke Letta’s face, making Letta observe Marco’s movement out of the corner of her eye.
“Did you shower with cold water?” Marco asked, causing Letta to nod her head.
“Yes, I was feeling a bit hot earlier. That’s why I tried to take a cold shower,” Letta replied, immediately causing Marco to worry.
“What if you get a fever again? Come on, sit here now, I’ll dry your hair,” Marco said, and Letta finally complied with her husband’s request. Slowly, Marco unwrapped the towel around her long hair and his gentle fingers began to massage her scalp as he continued to dry it.
“Yet you must have had a lot of work at the office. Why did you come home so early?” Letta asked, making Marco smile as he looked at his wife through the reflection in the large mirror in front of them.
“Because I missed you. I couldn’t focus on work when you were still outside,” Marco replied, making Letta smile, as best she could muster the smile she usually gave to Marco. But now, for some reason, it was hard to give a genuine smile to the man who had shattered her life. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“I missed Freya,” Letta said, causing Marco’s hand to stop.
“But didn’t you promise that if I got better, we could go get Freya?” Letta continued, causing Marco to fall silent for a moment. They could see the hesitation on his face.
“Fine, then tomorrow we’ll go get her,” Marco replied, causing Letta to lower her head.
“How about tonight?” Letta said, causing Marco to look at her with a hesitant expression.
“Come on, it would be hard on Freya if we go get her late at night. What if we do it tomorrow instead? I promise that we’ll go get our little princess tomorrow,” Marco said, causing Letta to let out a long sigh.
“Fine, then, promise you won’t break it tomorrow, okay?” Letta said, causing Marco to smile. At least Letta had to make sure that Freya was in her hands, close to her, so that Letta could plan what she had to do next.
