The Vampire Lord's Blood Doll

Chapter 26 Moved to the secretary's office

I felt uneasy all day. The video we watched was still in my head. I felt so embarrassed, recalling my looks and my behaviour. Somewhat, I felt weird that I was sleepwalking, as I never had this problem, and Miley proved that as well. The worst was I couldn't remember at all. I tried to force my mind to remember what happened, but I couldn't even recall the part when I went to bed.

I asked the driver once more to let me get off near the company, and I walked the short distance. I didn't know what I could expect from my colleagues when they would see me back, but I guessed they wouldn't greet me so friendly. Actually, I was wrong. When I stepped in, I could feel the usual glances on me, but this time, these glances were odd. Not only did no one come to me to ask about my well-being, but even when I greeted people who I passed by, they avoided me. I felt so frustrated; I thought there was one place where I could relax a little. I headed to the rooftop.

"If you ask me, the quiet ones are the most vicious when they bite," a voice came from ahead, but the building blocked my view, so I couldn't see who it was.

"I have always said that those who are parachuted in definitely have different backgrounds. Look at Isabella, such a ruthless character, offended someone, and just with a word, and they drove her away. You don't know Isabella even went to the HR department to make a scene, and they ended up calling the police, submitting evidence of her assault, and she was rightfully dismissed. Tsk tsk, she brought it upon herself."

There was another voice. The voice reminded me of someone. I tried to recall who that was, but the only thing I was certain about was that she was one of my colleagues from my department. I couldn't believe they were discussing me like this. "I think things aren't that simple. How could this woman just be the CEO's wife's friend?"

The voice hesitated for a moment.

"What is even stranger is that I have been here for so long, and I have never heard that the CEO got married. Even at the year-end banquet, I never saw his wife. At the banquet, everyone who is married brings their significant other." The voice continued.

"But if not, why would she say so?"

Listening to their conversation, I felt puzzled as well. It was a fact that Miley was William's wife. How could that be? They have never even heard that the CEO was married?

As I stood there, suddenly, I had a thought. How come I have never seen a wedding picture in the manor? William was filthy rich, and Miley was born into a wealthy family. There should have been a huge wedding. Probably, they got married in an expensive place, maybe abroad, and a wedding's important part is the photography. Usually, they pay for a famous photographer to make the best pictures possible.

Suddenly, I thought, maybe they keep the pictures in their bedroom. I shook my head, but then, in an instant, I had another thought, which got me aback. I was in their bedroom, and I haven't seen any pictures there either.

It wasn't like Miley. She had an open nature. When she liked someone, she wanted the whole word to know she was happy. Back in college, her social media account was filled with the pictures, showing off her boyfriend wherever she went. With her personality, there was no reason not to have wedding photos at home.

Perhaps William didn't like them. Some people don't like photos. But his attitude was clearly doting towards her, so why would he have a reason not to display wedding photos?

I tried to find a reason for that, but I couldn't. So I pushed away the random thoughts in my mind and decided not to dwell on it.Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.

However, someone said, "The CEO hasn't actually got married. I heard him say it myself."

I could imagine how the others turned to look at her, stunned.

"A client came recently, brought his wife to a gathering, offered a toast to the CEO, and asked why his wife didn't come. The CEO directly said he was unmarried." She continued.

I was listening intently, and I didn't notice Aiden to appear beside me.

"If you are curious, you can just ask the CEO directly." He suddenly spoke, which made me jump. But that wasn't just me who had been surprised by his presets. He made others startle into silence as well. I met his eyes, unable to hide my embarrassment.

As the group noticed us standing there, they smiled awkwardly and left one by one.

Aiden looked at me, and oddly, his gaze wandered to my neck for a moment, where my scratches were. His eyes somewhat darkened slightly before he moved his gaze.

"Don't worry, the CEO won't make things difficult for you. He can't bear to."

I didn't dare to respond. I felt something was amiss, so I just awkwardly smiled.

"I have something to attend to. I have to go now." I was about to take the first step when he stopped me.

"Wait, a moment." He called out to me. "The CEO has reassigned you. Report to the secretary's office later."

I frowned.

"The secretary's office? But my expertise isn't in that field. I am afraid I won't be very good at it." I tried to explain myself, as I didn't want to be close to William. I still felt uneasy about what happened that day. I was afraid working close to him would just create other opportunities for him to abuse his power.

Aiden stood up and smiled at me gently.

"This is for your own good. After what happened with Isabella, can you still stay in that department?" He asked, while he stepped closer to me. When he stood only a few inches away, his smile widened. "Besides, no one can change the CEO's decision."

He nodded, still smiling at me, then he walked back inside the building.
