Chapter 2164 Pulling a Few Strings

Lucy waited by the door until Cindy walked past her before saying, "I got a little curious when I

happened to pass by and saw you working overtime."

Cindy responded with an indifferent grunt and a nod. Despite her dislike for Lucy, she didn't dare to go

head-to-head with her. "Well, I was given the order to work on, so I just wanted to use my time wisely."

She gave a reasonable reply.

Lucy seemed surprised and furrowed her eyebrows. "It hasn't been long since you joined us, but you've

already been given the order to work on. It looks like you're really talented."

Cindy responded humbly, thinking little of herself. "This is all thanks to Miss Warhol. I'm actually not as

capable as you think I am."

After hearing that, Lucy didn't say a single word and went to follow Cindy into the elevator. As soon as

the elevator door closed, Lucy asked, "Did Miss Warhol have a word with you in private?"

Cindy was stunned in response to Lucy's question, wondering what the latter was trying to imply about

the last two private conversations Serena had with her. Although Serena said nothing to sway her,

Cindy was sure she wouldn't be Lucy's mentee anyway, even if the former didn't approach her privately.

Furthermore, Cindy was aware of how Lucy felt toward Gary, understanding how her emotions could

cloud her judgment because of that.

As someone who didn't like to rely heavily on connections for success, Cindy would rather put in the

hard work to prove her worth. Ironically, she somehow ended up using her connections like she had

despised without herself being aware of it, but even so, she was determined to make sure that wouldn't

happen again. No matter what others think of me, I'm going to prove myself with my hard work andBelongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

effort. At the thought of that, Cindy immediately played dumb to avoid giving rise to any

misunderstanding between her and Lucy. "Huh? What do you mean?"

Lucy turned around and looked at Cindy with a smile. "Did Miss Warhol say something that has led to a

misunderstanding about me to you?"

"No, there isn't a misunderstanding here. What's wrong? What happened?" Lucy continued to play

dumb.

Eventually, Lucy stopped pressing on with her question, thinking she might have probably read too

much into the situation. Thus, upon staring at Cindy for a few seconds, she replied with an affirmative

hum and heaved a sigh of relief. "Alright then. I was just asking anyway."

In the meantime, Cindy looked away without knowing what else to say. Although she hadn't interacted

with Lucy much, she didn't really have a favorable impression of her. After all, Lucy seemed like a

woman who liked playing office politics without wanting to face the consequences.

If playing dirty tricks behind someone else's back is your thing, you should be prepared for the day that

your scheme gets exposed. It's like a package. Anyone who does that needs to have the courage to

accept the consequences, but you? You look like the kind of person who hopes that karma won't come

back to you after taking advantage of someone else. Regardless of how the others felt toward Lucy,

Cindy couldn't really bring herself to like her.

As soon as the elevator arrived, the two ladies stepped out of it and headed toward the company's

lobby. Then, Lucy suggested giving Cindy a ride home since she drove to the office earlier that day.

However, Cindy didn't want to have anything further to do with her, so she turned her down and

decided to take a cab home instead. That's probably more convenient for me.

Lucy stared at Cindy for a short while and took her eyes off her with a nod. "Alright, stay safe on your

way back home."

Cindy responded with a polite gesture and exited the company's lobby. At that moment, a cab

happened to pass by just in time before she flagged it down. See? That's what I call convenience.

Soon, she got home and realized Aurora wasn't around, believing she must have left home for work or

something. Having lost her appetite to eat because of Lucy, Cindy went on to sleep on the couch in the

living room.

Upon lying on the couch for a few moments, Cindy grabbed her cell phone and checked it out, seeing a

message from Aurora, who told her that she would only be back at night. It's not the first time, anyway.

She closed her text message app and immediately received an incoming message on WhatsApp, but

before she viewed its content, the sender's name left her stranded for a second.
