The Kiss that Sparked it All

Chapter 2750

Chapter 2750 And he continued, “Whatever | say or do, you just don’t trust me. In that case, what's the point in talking?

| just want to give you a heads up, Ms. Tanner. Not everything goes according to plan, and with those amateur sleuthing skills of yours, you might want to back off sooner rather than later.”

Nolan was trying to keep Regina out of the whole mess; he wanted to get to the bottom of things himself.

Even if the developers were innocent, he had to make them come forward and clear things up. Otherwise, the Harris Group would have paid a steep price for a piece of land only to be swindled. Wouldn't that be a huge loss for them?

“How | handle this is none of your business. If the Harris Group is truly innocent, | would never falsely accuse you. I’m a journalist, and I’d appreciate it if you didn’t question my professional integrity.” Regina claimed.

Her boss was getting such a headache from their back-and-forth. Nolan had already warned Regina not to get involved, but when had she decided to start digging into the developers? He didn’t recall giving his approval.

“Rest assured, Mr. Harris, we won't let Regina tackle this on her own. Besides, there are plenty of red flags already. Maybe that homeless guy was just biting off more than he could chew.” He flashed a sycophantic smile, which Regina caught and found particularly unsettling.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

“Ablett isn’t like that. Don’t project your values onto him. If it weren’t for that damned developer, he’d be living happily with his family. Now he’s got nothing, and you want to sling mud at him?” she queried.

Nolan raised an eyebrow slightly, “It seems Ms. Tanner does have some skill. With so many reporters unable to get a peep out of that man, how come he spilled his guts to you?”

The boss nodded along. It was hardly pleasant for him to have his authority challenged in front of Nolan,

“As a journalist, you should know better than to take someone at his word without any other evidence. Just because Ablett is pitiable, you believe everything he says? That’s the last thing you should do.”

“| can’t take his word for it, which is exactly why I’m investigating the developers. And nobody is going to stop me!” she fired back again.

Regina was infuriated that Nolan stood with these strangers. She had no right to demand his allegiance, and in the end, she was the one being questioned. Fuming, she stomped her foot, flung open the door, and stormed out of his office, leaving Nolan behind in thought.

“I'm so sorry about that. The newbie comes from a bit of a background, so she’s a bit hot-headed. Please, Mr. Harris, forgive

her. But Nolan seemed unfazed. He reiterated that Regina must not be dragged into this, “When the time comes, I'll give everyone a reasonable explanation.”

The Boss was flattered. They were hardly deserving of an explanation from someone like Nolan.

“Don't worry, I'll make sure to hold Regina back.”

Nolan stood up, buttoning his suit jacket, “Since you've said as much, | have nothing to worry about. Carry on with your work. | won't keep you.”

“No trouble at all, Mr. Harris. I'll see you out.”

With her bag in hand, Regina headed back to her apartment outside.
