Chapter 2719
After some digging, it was clear that Nolan had been a paragon of virtue for all these years; he hadn’t so much as glanced at another woman. NôvelDrama.Org content.
Dahlia was confident that she had been the queen of his heart throughout all that time.
But whenever Dahlia tried to take their relationship to the next level, Nolan would push her away with an indifferent, almost cruel attitude.
She knew he was trying to punish her, but hadn’t enough time passed already?
Another argument ended in exhaustion, and Dahlia, feeling defeated, took a step back and conceded, “Alright, alright, let’s just drop it. I know I messed up. I just wanted to cheer you up today, but it turned out to be a big misunderstanding.
Let’s not talk about it anymore. I’m heading home. There’s a charity event this Sunday. I’ll save your usual spot.”
Nolan remained silent until Dahlia was about to leave. Then he asked, “That number you
left for me last time, was it really seat 008?”
“What?” Dahlia spun around, half expecting Nolan had found out about the mix-up with the staff. She forced a smile. “Why would there be a mistake? I never mess up these little details.”
Nolan frowned as he said, “Did your staff get it wrong but didn’t tell you? Regina doesn’t strike me as someone who would lie about the trivial things.”
my integrity over a Dahlia’s expression darkened as she asked, “Are you questioning my integrity woman you’ve barely known for a few days? How many times have I reserved a seat fo you without issue? Just because she bought a scalped ticket and ended up next to you you doubt me? Nolan, in all the years you’ve known me, when have you half-hearted about dance?”
Cornered, Nolan could only nod dismissively.” get it. Now go on home.”
He couldn’t explain it, but he felt an unaccountable trust in Regina. Perhaps it had something to do with her profession.
Seeing his disinterest in continuing the conversation, Dahlia sighed and left.
When she arrived at Nolan’s office the next day, she put on her brightest smile. “Lucy, you’ve been working so hard. Here are some pastries I picked up for you.”
“It’s no trouble at all. It’s my job, but thank you, Dahlia.”
But beyond polite thanks, Lucy offered no further reaction; she knew Dahlia was circling back to Nolan’s personal life yet again. As Nolan’s secretary, she knew whose salary she was earning and what she should and shouldn’t disclose.
“What does Nolan usually do after work?” asked Dahlia.
“I’m not privy to Mr. Harris’ personal schedule after hours.”
Dahlia pressed her, teeth nearly clenched, “Can’t you smell if there’s another woman’s perfume on him?”
“I’m sorry, Dahlia, but I don’t get that close to Mr. Harris. If you really want to know, perhaps you should try getting closer to Mr. Harris yourself. You might find out faster than by asking me.”
Despite her impatience, Lucy maintained a professional smile.
She was accustomed to the push and pull between these two, but she wondered what Nolan’s real intentions were. Could this woman truly end up as the CEO’s wife? The thought was almost laughable; such a neurotic woman was hardly a suitable match.
After several more minutes of fruitless questioning, Dahlia flipped her hair and strutted out of the CEO’s office.
Lucy exhaled in relief. Being an executive secretary was no easy job, but at least her paycheck was worth the trouble.
