Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Meredith finished her task and left immediately. She was too embarrassed to face this man again, even
if he was unconscious.
Meredith walked out of Derek's bedroom. The old master was already waiting for her.
"Today is your first time taking care of Derek. How's it going? Can you handle it?"
Meredith nodded but suddenly thought of the naked body of the man she saw today. Of course, he was
handsome and the task was not unbearable. But she still had some difficulty in overcoming the barrier
in her heart.
Perhaps she would get used to it after a long time.
"No problem."
Senior Mr. Xavier nodded and a man in a black suit came in with two red booklets in his hands.
"These are your marriage certificates. I'll keep them for you. Do you have any opinion?"
Meredith shook her head. The old master's subtext was obvious. If the marriage certificate was kept in
the Xavier Family, she could only temporarily take the title of the young madam of the Xavier Family
and would have no status and no freedom, and even the marriage certificate would be changed to a
divorce certificate at any time. At that time, she would be sent back to the place where she had
suffered a lot, or she would be asked to disappear from this world.
Meredith did not care about status, but she cared about freedom. This marriage certificate was her
shackle, but it was also the only hope that she could get out of the predicament. She could only rely on
the certificate to exchange for her future freedom.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Seeing that she was reasonable, senior Mr. Xavier nodded. "If you have time, learn from the massager
how to give Derek a massage. Remember, as his wife, it's your duty to take care of Derek's daily life."
Meredith agreed and went back to Derek's room. The massager saw her come and motioned for her to
sit aside and watch.
Meredith sat down cooperatively and watched the man's muscles being pushed and rubbed over and
over again. She exclaimed in her heart.
Derek had been unconscious in bed for three years without any muscle atrophy, which could show that
this massager's skill was extraordinary.
If she learned this massage technique, she might be able to make her mother's muscle as healthy as
Derek's even if she was paralyzed in bed.
Meredith's eyes dimmed at the thought of her mother, whom she had not seen for three years.
Back then, her mother was so angry at the shameless behavior of the three people in the Mason
Family that she had a stroke and was bedridden. Now, she didn't know how her mother was
recovering.
The reason why she had to leave the prison as soon as possible was not only because of the pain she
suffered, but also because she wanted to take care of her mother.
So for her mother's sake, she had to take advantage of this opportunity to marry into the Xavier Family
and regain her freedom.
It was already dark after the massage. Meredith sent the massager away and went out for dinner. The
old master told her, "Now that you have had a marriage certificate, you can sleep with Derek from now
on."
The old master was giving orders, which could not be refused.
Since they attempted to bring Derek good luck by having a wedding, they had to follow the rules strictly.
Meredith paused with her chopsticks and nodded.
After all, it was just sleeping with a man in a vegetative state. A vegetable who could not move or
speak was much safer than the people in prison who were going to kill her at any time.
So "sleeping together" only meant literally.
After dinner, Meredith went back to Derek's room obediently. In order to celebrate, the bedclothes in the
room was changed to bright red, and two red candles were lit on the table. The lights were turned off,
and the red flame of the fire made the room look warm.
Meredith walked to the bedside and looked at the man on the bed. His face softened a lot under the
candlelight. It was not as cold as usual. In a trance, she thought that he was just asleep.
"From today on, you are my husband. Is it ridiculous? Because of you, I almost died several times
during the past three years. I did hate you before, and you must hate me, too. But now we become
husband and wife. Maybe this is fate."
"It doesn't matter if you never wake up." Meredith sat by the bed and began massaging Derek with the
technique she learned from the massager today, "After all, I just want to be free and you just need
someone to take care of you. We can take what we need. It will be nice if there are no more changes"
According to the massager, Meredith didn't stop massaging him until an hour passed. Although she
hated the man because of whom she was in jail, she was bound to take good care of him because of
the agreement with the Xavier Family.
She felt sleepy. On the first day after she was released from prison, Meredith finally felt a trace of
freedom. Those feelings that belonged to a human, such as exhaustion and sleepiness, returned to
her.
Derek was on one side of the bed, and she was lying on the other side of the big red bed. She
habitually curled up and closed her eyes.
In the middle of the night, the chill made her leg pain badly, and she tosses and turned as she sweated
profusely. Suddenly, she felt the heat source beside her. Subconsciously, she leaned over and curled
her small body into the "fire" beside her.
Waves of warmth passed through her skin, and the cold disappeared, so she gradually fell asleep
again.
The next day.
Meredith had not seen the morning light in the dark cell for a long time so that she woke up when the
first ray of sunlight penetrated through the curtains that were not drawn close.
When she opened her eyes, she looked blankly at the slightly pale handsome face in front of her, felt
the warmth of his body, and suddenly realized that she was lying in his arms.
Meredith struggled to get up at once, her face burning. Even if Derek was an unconscious person, he
was still an adult man. How could Meredith not be shy just hugging him like that?
She quickly put on her clothes. When she opened the door and went out, she looked back at Derek,
who was still lying quietly on the bed. She was a little confused.
Just now, when she got up, she felt the strength coming from Derek's arm around her waist.
Was it an illusion?
Or was Derek about to wake up?
