Chapter 69
Logan returned about twenty minutes later looking considerably more put together. “Okay,” he said when he walked through his office door. “What did I miss?” Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
“Your phone went off a couple times,” I pointed to where it sat on his desk. It had been more than a couple. It was ten, to be exact, all from his very unhappy wife. As innocent as our dinner had been, I was feeling pretty guilty about being part of whatever seemed to go down between the two of them last night.
He picked up his phone and frowned when he saw the messages. “Oh!” He said suddenly and looked up at me. “I just realized I never messaged you back last night.”
“Oh, no, it’s okay. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated what you said,” I replied.
He studied my face. I couldn’t quite read his expression, but he almost seemed relieved? Then he gave
me a nod.
“So uh what do you need from me before I head into my meeting?” He set his phone back on his desk without responding to the messages. I had a hunch the wife would not be too happy about that,
ed to respond to the messages you got first?” I asked. I hated for him to
trouble with her that he already seemed to be.
“Those can wait,” he said, a hint of bitterness in his words. “I’m all yours.”

My heart gave an involuntary flutter at those words. “I just need your approval on the guest list and invitations, then I’ll get them to the post office right away,” I said and walked over to his desk to show him where I had placed them.
His face fell. “Oh, right, the party.” He quickly skimmed the guest list, then picked up one of the
invitations. He studied it for a long time, deep in thought. “They’re fine,” he said finally. “I have to get to my meeting.”
He grabbed his phone and took off out the door. I began to wonder if there would still even be a party for his wife after all was said and done.
After his morning meeting. Logan returned to his office. He was surprised to find it and Hazel’s desk empty. He had been hoping for her help with an “I’m sorry” gift for Natalie. He noticed a sticky note on the desk in front of his keyboard that hadn’t been there earlier.
He walked over to the note and picked it up. He read aloud: “Went to take the invitations to the post office. Your reservation for lunch with Dylan is at 12:00 at Highlanders. See you soon! -Hazel,”
He walked out of the office and surveyed the room, looking for anyone else that might be able to help. His eyes stopped on Maria, who was typing furiously on her computer keyboard. She was close to Hazel, it seemed. She might be his best bet.
He walked swiftly over to her. Her eyes shifted over to him from her screen, and grew wide as she realized he was heading straight for her.
“Maria,” he said when he reached her.
“Y..yes?” She looked helplessly towards Hazel’s desk and frowned when she realized she wasn’t there.

“Would you mind joining me in my office? Hazel is out and I could use some assistance,” he turned and started heading back to his office without waiting for an answer.
“I guess not.” Maria muttered as she got up to follow him.
He waited for her to walk through his door and closed it behind her. “Please, have a seat,” he gestured to
the chairs in front of his desk.
She sat tentatively.
He hesitated. “I need to get something for my wife. She’s been….upset lately, and I wanted to cheer her up by taking something to her at work this morning. Any suggestions?”
Maria looked taken aback at the request. “Well..” she thought for a moment. “That’s kind of hard for me to help with without knowing her. Um. Can you tell me a little about her?”
“She’s an actress. She had very rich taste,” Logan said
Maria detected a hint of annoyance in the second part of his description. “Maybe flowers and some jewelry? That’s a pretty classic ‘feel better gift, should be easy to find quickly.”
“Perfect. Are you able to stop what you’re doing and come with me to pick something like that out for her?” Logan asked, standing and grabbing his car keys.
Maria felt she didn’t really have a choice in the matter Can I finish typing up an email first?”
“Yes, meet me in the parking garage in five minutes Logan brushed past her and headed to the elevators.
“Five minutes?” She muttered to herself. Maria watched him and shook her head as soon as he was out of sight. Was this what Hazel had to deal with on the daily? She did not envy her friend.
An hour later Logan walked through the doors of Sunset Studios, a beautiful yellow bouquet of roses and small black gift bag in hand.
He walked up to the receptionist. “Hi, I’d like to see one of your actresses, Natalie, is she available?”
The receptionist eyeballed him suspiciously. “Name?”
“Logan Hatfield.”
She picked up a walkie talkie and pressed the side button. “Can I get an available PA to the reception area please?”
“On my way,” a male voice said through the walkie.
A moment later, the same production assistant that had taken Logan to see Natalie the first time showed up. He jumped slightly when his eyes landed on Logan Logan waved at him.
“A Mr. Logan Hatfield would like to

He nodded and headed back down the hall he had come from.
Logan paced around the reception area. His last two visits here had not gone well, exactly. He was
nervous that this time might be the same, with Natalie being as upset as she had been.
He walked back up to the receptionist. “Beautiful day, huh?” He said, hoping small talk would distract him and calm his nerves.
“I wouldn’t know, I’ve been inside all day,” the receptionist said, not looking up from her screen.
Natalie came out and narrowed her eyes at him. She stormed over to him and grabbed his arm. She dragged him outside.
“So, what, you bring me flowers and then have the nerve to flirt with the receptionist right in front of me?” She said angrily.
“Flirt?? That was not flirting.” he said defensively. “I was making small talk. Not very well, I might add.” “You don’t need to be doing any sort of talking with any woman,” she snapped.
She snatched the flowers and gift bag from his hand and threw them on the ground. The petals on the flowers detached from their stems and went flying everywhere. The small jewelry box flew out of its bag and bounced a few times on the concrete.
“And how dare you. You think some flowers and a piece of jewelry is going to make up for what you’ve done? Not even close.”
She stormed back into the building and slammed the front door shut behind her, leaving a bewildered Logan alone on the front sidewalk.
