I took Kashmira to a motel nearby and ordered her to lay low. She had travelled a long way with a child and the best thing to do right now was for her to rest, while I figure out what to do next.

"I will find a way to take you to Mikalya once I figure out where exactly I need to take you." I told her as we settled into the privacy of her room, where no one could overhear our conversation.

I wanted to give her the assurance that I would be able to find out where Mikalya was, but even though I had mentioned the Himalayas earlier, it wasn't like the Himalayas were a tiny hill. It was a gigantic mountain range that had several inhabitable places. Finding out exactly where Mikalya was in the Himalayas would be as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack.

"Don't worry, you will find it eventually." Kashmira chimed in, sounding more optimistic than I felt. "Since you are Mikalya's mate, the bond will eventually pull you towards her and you will know exactly where to go."

"Wait...what did you just say I was?" I frowned in confusion. "Mate?"

What did she mean by 'mate'? Was it like some kind of a friend? Like in the British term? Or did it mean something else entirely in this strange world that I had just been introduced to.

"I see that you are confused," she chuckled, placing her hand on top of her son's forehead so to check if he was still sleeping.

"Yes, I am... I really don't understand what you mean." I told her, finding no shame in asking for help when I knew nothing about this new world I was dealing with.

"Every wolf has a mate, a soulmate that's chosen by the Moon Goddess the second you are born." she explained. "We can only have children with our mates, even though some shifters have lovers before they meet their real mates. But once we meet out mates, it's like...an undeniable pull, an invisible thread of fate that binds us to one another. You must have felt it too, right? When you first saw her?"

Now that I think about it, I understood what she meant clearly. It had felt like love at first sight and since then, I hadn't been able to stop thinking about her.

Each and every day, when I saw her, I felt an undeniable pull towards her. Her smile made me happy; when she was upset, I wanted to do everything in my power to make her feel better. When she was close to me, nothing else mattered in this world.

Even though Kashmira told me we were mates, I had no idea if Mikalya felt the same way towards me the way I felt for her. I didn't want this to be a one-sided affair, because now that the initial fear had subsided, the urge to know more about Mikalya was starting to overwhelm me once again. I couldn't deny that I had fallen for her at first sight, and whatever fear I had felt, now it felt more like a shock of witnessing what had happened that actual fear for Mikalya. Because something told me that even in the middle of a bloodbath, she had never even thought about harming me.

"And...how did you know about this?" I asked her, because I needed to be sure. "How did you find out that I was her mate?"

"I mistakenly overheard Ruksaar teasing Mikalya that day, when she went out to see you." She looked down at her lap, feeling guilty. "I shouldn't have...maybe that's why she left..."

"Hey!" I placed a hand on her shoulder, hoping to provide some comfort. "It's not your fault. We wouldn't know why she left until we find her and get to know about the truth from the source. And for that, we need to figure out exactly where she is."

"But how?" She asked desperately. "I tried to trace their scent back to Delhi, but then it just vanished. They may have taken an airplane out of city. But I have no idea where to."

"We'll figure it out, together." I nodded, hoping my confidence wasn't in vain. "Tell me something...how does this mating bond work exactly? What am I supposed to...feel?"

Kashmira meets my gaze steadily, her expression serene yet knowing. "It's a connection so deep that it transcends words or logic. It's as if two souls recognize each other on a level beyond comprehension."

I blinked, absorbing her words slowly. A mating bond? The concept felt foreign and surreal, something out of a fantasy novel rather than reality. But still, it resonated within me with a sense of 'knowing' that I couldn't deny. "But what about... other creatures?" I asked tentatively, my curiosity piqued despite my lingering disbelief. "I mean, besides wolves and falcons. Are there... others?"

Kashmira chuckles, a musical sound that dances through the air like wind chimes on a breezy day.

"Oh, there are plenty," she replies cryptically, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "But perhaps it's better if you don't know too much. Ignorance can sometimes be a blessing, especially when it comes to navigating the complexities of our world."

I furrowed my brows, uncertainty gnawing at the edges of my mind. "But... why?" I pressed on, unable to suppress my curiosity any longer. "Why keep these things hidden? Shouldn't we know what's out there, what we might encounter?" Kashmira's smile softens, her gaze gentle yet inscrutable. "Sometimes, ignorance is a shield," she murmurs, her voice carrying a weight of wisdom far beyond her years.

"Knowing too much can breed fear, suspicion, and paranoia. It's better to live your life without constantly looking over your shoulder, without fearing the person sitting next to you."

I absorb her words in silence, a part of me still grappling with the enigma of it all. But deep down, I knew there was truth in what she said. Perhaps some mysteries were better left unsolved, some truths better left unspoken and as I nod in quiet acceptance, I can't help but wonder what other secrets this world might hold, hidden just beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered.

As we discussed, I knew I needed to be honest with myself. Fear has been my constant companion lately. Ever since that incident, I haven't been able to shake off the terror that gripped me day by day. The mere thought of going back to my workplace sends shivers down my spine. It felt like I was trapped in this loop of anxiety, unable to break free from its suffocating embrace.

I still remember the moment vividly, when I had stumbled upon something that shattered my perception of reality. It was like peeling back the layers of a veil, revealing a world I never knew existed and in that moment, fear consumed me whole.

But amidst the fear, there was this constant nagging at the back of my mind as to where Mikalya was. Had she sustained any injuries too that day? Was she alright? Had she been thinking about me too?

I wanted to understand more about this world. I wanted to unravel the mysteries that surround me. And only then would I be able to face Mikalya once again, without fear or hesitation.

It's a strange affair-fear and curiosity dancing in a precarious balance within me. One moment, I'm paralyzed by terror, the next, I'm fueled by an insatiable thirst for knowledge. It's as if I'm standing at the edge of a cliff, torn between the safety of ignorance and the allure of the unknown.

Perhaps that's why I haven't been able to return to my workplace. Not just because of the fear that grips me, but because of the curiosity that gnaws at my soul. I want to confront my fears, to face them head-on and emerge victorious but more than that, I wanted to see Mikalya again, I wanted to hold her in my arms one more time.

As I sat across from Kashmira, her words hung in the air, swirling around me like whispers in the wind. She was right, of course, because if I had such a visceral reaction to what I saw, it was better that the supernatural world had been kept hidden from prying eyes. But still I wanted to know more about it.

"Abhay, I know what you're thinking," Kashmira began, her voice soft but tinged with excitement. "But if you truly want to understand this world, to grasp its intricacies and complexities, there's no one better to guide you than Mikalya." I leaned forward, intrigued by her words. "Mikalya?"

Kashmira smiled knowingly. "Mikalya... well, she's been around for a while, you see. Longer than any of us. She's seen things, experienced things that most of us can only dream of. If anyone can give you insight into the world, it's her." I furrowed my brows, trying to make sense of her cryptic words. "What do you mean by 'been around for a while'?"

"What I'm trying to tell you, is that...Mikalya...just might be over a century old."
