Chapter 212
The two men turned in unison, watching as she jogged over and forcefully pushed Everett aside to stand in front of Kenneth. "What do you think you're doing to Kenneth?!"
Everett hadn't expected such a fiery reaction from her. Dorothy stood before him like a steadfast soldier. Her entire being radiated an aura of caution and defiance. Her wary and distant gaze pierced him deeply.
"Kenneth, are you okay?"
Kenneth, still gasping for fresh air, managed a weak wave of his hand to signal he was okay.
Once she had confirmed Kenneth was unharmed, Dorothy turned her icy gaze back towards Everett, lambasting him with a cold fury. "Is this all the Lopez family knows how to do? Do you think that because you're the CEO of Lopez Corporation, you can trample on everyone around you? Do we all seem like insignificant ants to you that could be toyed with and crushed at your whim?"
Each word she spat out was sharp and unyielding. Her condemnation of him was relentless.
Earlier, Dorothy had called Kevin to discuss resigning, only to find out that Everett wasn't at the company.
Worried that Everett might come after Kenneth, she rushed over, only to find Everett with his hand around Kenneth's throat.
She was terrified.
She feared that her actions might lead to Kenneth's death, too.
The guilt from her mother's death was already too heavy a burden. She wished she could've died with her.
So, she blurted out those words without thinking or considering Everett's feelings or the fact that he wasn't the type to harm others without cause.
"Is that really how you see me?" Everett's voice was barely audible. He was shaking in disbelief. He ignored Kenneth's presence and locked his eyes on Dorothy.
His disbelief was palpable. He couldn't believe such accusations against him were coming from her.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
Gradually, Dorothy's rational mind started to regain control.
But the damage was done. So, she decided to tear his wound even wider, so wide that Everett would lose all hope.
"Or what? You think you're some god in my eyes? Am I supposed to worship you? I told you yesterday. You, the Lopez family, all you rich folks with your noses in the air, I truly despise it!" Dorothy locked eyes with Everett. The midday sun cast a light on his chiseled features, making his eyes appear even darker and more intense. "You know what? Every second I spent lying next to you was sheer torture. Every time you kissed me, I wanted to vomit!"
"Dorothy..." Kenneth couldn't help but whisper her name.
Dorothy found it hard to hold Everett's intense gaze. She slowly turned away. "My mother's operation is over. I've learned everything I needed to know about investment banking business. I can't keep up this charade anymore."
"I don't believe it was all an act." Everett's face was set in stone. His eyes were filled with heavy emotions that refused to dissipate.
She just scoffed.
Each laugh felt like a slap in his face.
"Believe what you want. It's over between us. In fact, I'm quite proud of myself. Who knew I could make the mighty Mr. Lopez fall for me? Kenneth, you better treat me right. Otherwise, see? Mr. Lopez is my backup."
