The CEO Gets What He Wants

Chapter 558

Chapter 558 Avery Is Feeling Better

The man's voice on the other end of the line was so deep and magnetic that it left Evangeline wonderstruck.

My goodness... He sounds so seductive that I'm about to melt into a puddle. I always pictured Avery's husband as some creepy, rich middle-aged man. Oh, how wrong I was! His voice is even more pleasant than the news anchors I'm infatuated with! There's no way he's like the stereotypical fat, wealthy man.

Thankfully, Evangeline managed to compose herself and keep her tone calm. “Hello, I'm Evangeline Gellana. Avery and I met during the examination. Anyway, she got accused of cheating today and was led to the office by the invigilator for an internal investigation. She gave me this number to contact and ask for help, so I did as instructed...”

“Got it! I'll thank you later!” Cayden replied before hanging up the phone.

Evangeline sighed and kicked the stones by the road dejectedly. She had hoped to hear more of the man's voice, so how could she not be bummed out when the call ended?

Meanwhile, in Beshya, Cayden had managed to wriggle out of the Aploth Economic Summit.

His cold, menacing eyes were tinged with red as he clutched his phone and quietly seethed.

Even when a few prominent business moguls requested to take a photo with him, Cayden ignored them and walked to a quiet corner, leaving the men utterly embarrassed.

A sheepish smile crept across Wisteria's face as she quickly apologized, “I'm sorry, everyone. Mr. Moore isn't feeling well today.”

With that, she excused herself and ran after Cayden. NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.

“What's the matter, Mr. Moore?” she asked, her face scrunched up in worry.

To her surprise, Cayden merely raised his hand to stop her from talking as he dialed a number on his phone.

After listening in on the man's conversation, Wisteria reeled in shock.

She could sense Cayden's aura growing colder with every second, and upon hearing his order, she did as instructed and slunk away.

Meanwhile, at the office, an ashen-faced Avery sat opposite the invigilators.

“Why did you cheat, Ms. Rumpley? Did you know cheating is now considered a legal offense?” one of them asked.

“I never cheated, sir. You can keep asking, but I'll stand by my statement!” Avery replied as she straightened her back. Despite sounding a little choked up, there was no denying she was sure of herself.

Without further ado, the invigilator held up the alleged evidence and shook his head. “You've already admitted that this ball of paper is yours, and Yulissa Yantz has also witnessed you cheating on the test.

What else do you have to say for yourself?”

“Sir, how can you only listen to Yulissa's words?” Avery snapped. “My friend can testify to seeing me put the study materials into my bag. As to why they suddenly appeared in the classroom, I believe someone was trying to frame me. The whistleblower and I are colleagues at Trident Group, and she's also my superior. Unfortunately, Yulissa has a grudge against me and constantly finds fault with me. I have every reason to suspect her for setting me up!”

Since Yulissa has the nerve to frame me, I shall stop playing nice and fight back! I've finally realized that some people have absolutely zero morals. The more you give in to them, the more they'll take advantage of you!

The two invigilators exchanged glances. They never expected so much bad blood between the students, but at the same time, that wasn't what they cared about.

After all, cheating during examinations was no small matter, and they couldn't tolerate such behavior!

Just then, a text notification sound rang out from Yulissa's phone.

Upon realizing Wisteria had texted her, she wasted no time opening it.

Wisteria: Ms. Yantz, there are some things you've done on your own accord which have nothing to do with others. I don't think I need to tell you what you should do. By the way, I've covered up the matter of you accepting kickbacks for the time being. As for how long I can keep that hidden will depend entirely on your performance.

Since it was a disappearing message, it was automatically deleted when Yulissa finished reading it.

It was as though the text had never been sent.

By then, Yulissa was sweating bullets.

Sh*t. I thought no one would find out about me receiving clients' kickbacks. I've always been extra careful and secretive, so how could Ms. Summers know? Argh! What's with this turn of events? For some reason, I feel like I'm losing control of the situation...

Even after more than thirty minutes of questioning, Avery never once stopped insisting on her innocence, much to the frustration of the two invigilators.

They had physical evidence and an eyewitness account from Yulissa, so they couldn't understand why Avery was still so adamant.

However, since the latter was pregnant, the invigilators were wary not to push her further. Just like that, the interrogation soon came to a standstill.

All of a sudden, one of the invigilators received a call. “Hello, Mr. Langdon—”

Unfortunately, he had barely gotten those words out when Liam Langdon launched into an angry tirade. “Are you interrogating a student by the name of Avery Rumpley? I want you to release her this instant! Do you know who she has backing her up? Her boyfriend is none other than the notorious Cayden Moore, yet there you are, accusing her of cheating! Are you guys tired of living?”

“But, Mr. Langdon, we have evidence to prove—”

“No buts! Release her right now and let her continue with the examination. You can look into the matter again when she's completed all her papers! Also, give Ms. Rumpley back her phone!” Liam shouted, his tone harsh and unrelenting.

Left with no other choice, the invigilator hung up the phone and reluctantly handed Avery's phone to her.

Meanwhile, Avery had just received her phone when Cayden's call came in.

“Cayden...” she muttered, relieved to hear the man's voice.

“Listen to me, Avery,” Cayden said gently. “I've heard what happened to you. Don't worry. I'm already on my way back to Ackleton. The plane's about to take off. Be good and calm yourself down for the rest of the examination. I promise to clear your name once I'm back.”

Needless to say, Avery felt a lot better after Cayden's reassurance.

She stared daggers at Yulissa, wishing she could shred the latter into pieces with her gaze.

Yulissa's heart had sunk when she heard Avery talking to Cayden on the phone, but nevertheless, she feigned composure and rolled her eyes at the woman. “Pfft. You shameless cheater! What are you so arrogant about?”

Avery, however, couldn't be bothered about her and marched toward the hall for the second round of examination.

Even though Cayden had comforted Avery, there was still no denying that the cheating accusation had

affected the latter emotionally.

Before long, the bell rang, signifying the end of the examination. It hadn't been easy, but Avery managed to power through and complete her paper on time.

Since the cheating scandal was far from over, she and Yulissa were soon led back to the interrogation room.

This time, however, Evangeline had volunteered to go along and testify for Avery.
