The CEO Gets What He Wants

Chapter 178

Chapter 178

Xavier related everything Cayden needed to know implicitly. As Cayden's assistant, he trusted his boss was shrewd enough to read between the lines regarding Yvonne's misdeeds. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Nevertheless, Cayden was still a boss. As he had greater experience and a position superior to others, his methods would naturally be different from the domineering behavior of street thugs.

Whatever he had in mind, he would never reveal it in his expressions. His unpredictability made it hard for others to guess his intentions.

Xavier had no idea how Cayden was going to deal with the matter. All he could do was sit back and watch.

I'll get back to my work, then.

Meanwhile, in the design department, the topics for idle chatter there had changed ever since Yvonne started work.

It would range from the city's socialites to the celebrities in the entertainment industry. Once in a while, it would also revolve around rich and powerful families.

Given how dry their routine at work was, everyone was thrilled at sharing exciting gossip during work.

Most importantly, Yulissa could only turn a blind eye to their behavior, as Yvonne was always the one who started the conversations.

She had no choice but to tolerate her behavior.

As for Cecelia, she couldn't be more annoyed.

Nonetheless, she was cognizant that a lowly team leader like her could only be forced to endure it since even the department head didn't dare to show her disapproval.

At that moment, one of their female colleagues asked, “Yvonne, do you know who Nicole Lambert is? Have you seen her in person?”

Yvonne pondered for a moment. “Of course I've seen her.”

“In that case, is she pretty in real life?” The colleague was intrigued.

“In real life...” Yvonne hesitated in thought. “In real life, she looks ordinary. She usually relies on makeup and photoshop.”

Even though Yvonne hadn't seen Nicole before, she had heard of her. The latter, who was twenty, was the hottest actress in the entertainment industry that year.

She had burst into the scene after taking on the lead female role in a movie by a famous director.

As the colleague admired Yvonne for being acquainted with so many stars, she continued, “Yvonne, since you know so many celebrities, tell us your thoughts about whether Nicole will continue to be popular.”

“Why do you have so many questions?” Nina was irritated, as their conversation had disrupted her

work.

The colleague replied innocently, “I enjoy reading up on celebrities and have been following Nicole recently. If she has a clean background and the potential for a great career, I plan to become a diehard fan of hers.”

Nina was speechless as she continued to type furiously on the keyboard with her eyes glued to the screen. She sneered, “If you have time to care about Nicole, why don't you spend it listening to the doctor explain your mother's health situation instead?”

The colleague was taken aback.

Just as Nina had said, she had received a call from her mother's doctor at ten in the morning wanting to explain her mother's situation to her. However, she refused to listen and got the doctor to tell her mother himself.

What's wrong with indulging in a little celebrity gossip?

After giving Nina the side-eye, Yvonne withdrew her gaze and answered the colleague, “If you plan to become her diehard fan, then you have chosen the right person. I dare say that as long as she's keen to continue her career, no one will be able to stop her rise as a megastar.”

“Why?” The colleague's interest was piqued.

“Because of her background.” Yvonne cocked a brow at the colleague. “You can't even imagine it, but I'm not at the liberty to speak.”

Yvonne's mother was married to a tycoon, and Ackleton's high society wasn't that big. Everyone had naturally heard about it.

Furthermore, it wasn't a surprise that such explosive news would spread like wildfire within the circle.

William Lambert was the state secretary, while his wife was Claire Walsh. When she was young, Claire, together with Cayden's mother, Allie, and Dylan's mother, Talia, were all best friends.

For some inexplicable reason, William and Claire didn't have any children.

It wasn't until ten years ago that Claire adopted a ten-year-old girl from an orphanage that she frequently visited. That girl turned out to be the twenty-year-old Nicole now.

Consequently, no other young celebrity in the entertainment industry had a family background more influential than Nicole.

Furthermore, no netizen knew of her origins. They didn't dare reveal it for fear of being blacklisted.

In spite of that, those in power within the entertainment industry had no illusions about who Nicole's adoptive father was. There was a tacit understanding among them to promote Nicole and give her the princess treatment.

With the wind in her sails, it was easy for her to get wherever she wanted.

The thought of how glamorous Nicole was and the fact that she was worshipped by many filled Yvonne with jealousy.

Wouldn't it be perfect if I had the opportunity to enter the entertainment industry too? How can one not be jealous of an orphan who transforms into a starlet in just ten years? Why is life so unfair?

As Yvonne didn't have the courage to bad-mouth Nicole in front of the colleague, all she could do was insinuate that Nicole didn't look good in person and required her photo to be edited.

In truth, she had never seen Nicole in real life before.

While they continued with their idle chatter, Avery, who was overwhelmed with work, kept hearing the name Nicole being mentioned.

After busying herself the entire morning, Avery rushed through lunch before diving back into work. When it was finally three, she grabbed her bag and rushed out of the office.

On her way to see Blake, she dropped by a few printing companies, looking to print name cards.

Finally, she chose the one that was the cheapest.

After giving an address, she instructed the vendor to courier it to the office.

Meanwhile, the place where Blake was staying was located somewhere pleasant, where the air was significantly better than in the city.

Upon locating the place with its address, Avery was met by a housekeeper who opened the door for her. Stepping in, she saw another one cleaning the grounds.

“Good afternoon, Ms. Rumpley,” the housekeeper greeted cordially.

“Good afternoon,” Avery replied. She was equally polite.

Amidst the charming surroundings, Blake had almost recovered from his wounds and was in great spirits. His improvement made Avery realize that accepting Cayden's help was the right decision.

Her pride had to take a backseat when it came to Blake's health.

Strolling in the garden with Avery, Blake couldn't resist asking, “Cayden is taking good care of me because of his feelings for you. This is something that you have to take note of.”

“He's really kind,” Avery replied, sidestepping the comment.

Turning to face his granddaughter, Blake stamped his walking stick on the ground and admonished her, saying, “That's not the point! I'm telling you that Cayden has your best interest at heart. By making sure I'm cared for, he's alleviating your burden. You'd better remember that. Do you really think he has taken me in just because he's kind? With so many pitiful old folks around, why didn't he bother with another lady's grandfather?”

Blake's remark elicited a smile from Avery.

He added, “Stop being so stubborn, and don't keep thinking about breaking up just because you underestimate yourself. For him to have feelings for you, there must be something in you that attracts him. Even though coming from similar backgrounds is important, it doesn't mean married couples from different rungs of society can't be happy.”
