The Billionaire’s Pretend Fiancée

Right in front of me

Chapter 64 Right in front of me

“When did I ever make things up, Roman? What have I ever done to you to make you hate me so much? Please tell me, so I can make a full atonement. It hurts s-”

I inhaled deeply as I felt the familiar surge of anger simmer within me.

“Enough of that stupid pretentious acting of yours, what I want from you is to leave me the fuck alone, Lana. Get out of my life, I never want to see you again. I swear to the heavens, the next time you try this bullshit with my fiancée, I’ll have you arrested before filing a restraining order, am I clear?” I gritted out.

A stray, crocodile tear rolled down Lana’s face as she shook her head. “Where exactly did I go wr-”Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

“I don’t have time for your bullshit.” I cut her off before turning to Sofie whose eyes were fixated on my face.

I fought the urge to snarl at her, as the thought of her betrayal floated into my mind.

“Let’s go, have you paid yet?” I asked, and she shook her head.

I didn’t say anything, and just walked to the checkout desk to pay for everything she had bought, then afterward, we walked past Lana and her scantily-clad friend to my car.

As Sofie and I walked, I could sense her stare burning into my back, and the impending question I knew she was about to ask.

“They started it first, I never meant to drag anyone’s hair.” She mumbled.

Cool, it wasn’t a question.

I paid no mind to her and remained silent as Nathan flung the car door open.

“By the way, how did you know I was shopping there?” She finally asked the question I was waiting to hear.

Guilt enveloped me as my mind raced back to earlier that morning, when I had installed a tracking app on Sofie’s phone while she was asleep to monitor every of her movement.

I knew it was a shallow thing to do.

I had really stooped so low but I couldn’t help it, I had to confirm everything Alexander Guilon had told me.

I needed to know if Sofie was just putting on a facade.

I yearned to seek the truth about her.

I needed to know if she was truly a golddigger, and I also wanted to catch Damien and her red-handed in the act.

“I had stuff to do around here, and I saw you walk in.” I said, looking straight ahead.

“Oh.”

I just hummed in response.

“Thanks for doing that earlier, anyway. I was scared for the b-” She cut herself short with a gasp which caused me to avert my stare on her.

I just quirked an eyebrow but didn’t utter a word.

Her phone then rang at that moment and in spite of myself, I stealthily steered my gaze to the screen to get a glimpse of the caller id and the name I saw made my blood boil with ferocious ire.

It was Damien.

I inwardly scoffed when I saw the way Sofie became tense, and her face turned crimson red.

Of course, she wouldn’t want to answer his call in my presence, she had to keep up with her game of pretense.

I watched her type something on her phone before turning it face down on her lap.

Maybe she had just set up an appointment to meet with him at his house or probably an hotel.

Internally, I debated on installing a call and message tracking app on her phone without her knowledge but eventually, I decided against it.

I had already stooped beyond low, and I didn’t want to go lower.

I just had to find a way to break up with her before our contract ended, so I could be free from her wayward lifestyle as soon as possible.

“Do you want to go on a movie date tonight?” Sofie asked, as the car screeched to a stop in front of my mansion.

I willed away the impulse to snap at her as we walked into the house. “No. I have something important to do.”

“Tomorrow then? I heard this new romantic thriller will be showing in cinemas tomorrow, let’s go for that.” She chattered excitedly as she hooked our arms together.

I threw a icy glare at her, and instantly, she unlooped her arm from mine.

The silence between us was tension-filled and awkward but I simply couldn’t bring myself to care.

I didn’t care about the way Sofie’s shoulder sagged in miserable surrender nor did I care about the sad pout clamping her lips.

And no, I wasn’t forcing myself to believe it because I knew within myself that something between us had changed for the worst.

But you defended her against Lana, a voice within me countered and I instantly shook it off.

I didn’t care about Sofie anymore.

“I’ll have lunch in the study.” I said to Melissa, as she relieved me of my briefcase.

I didn’t bat an eyelid at the shocked stare Sofie darted toward me, and just climbed up the stairs to the bedroom to change into a causal outfit.

Afterward, I trekked to my study and some minutes later, my meal was brought in.

I couldn’t bring myself to savor the food because my head was filled with thoughts of Sofie and Damien.

I wondered what they both thought of me. I wondered when they started meeting each other behind my back.

I wondered if they thought of me as nothing but a stupid fool who couldn’t even decipher whether or not a woman was truly in love with him.

It was late in the evening when I finally left the study to the bedroom, with the hopes of finding Sofie asleep.

Fortunately, she had fallen asleep.

She looked so peaceful and innocent that I couldn’t help but move closer to her to get a close-up view of her face.

I was about to caress her face when I realized what I was doing and immediately, I withdrew my outstretched hand, changed into my nightwear before sliding under the covers.

I wondered how long I was going to continue living like that; with so much loathe and venom toward Sofie in my heart.
