The Billionaire’s Pretend Fiancée

Overbearing

Sofie’s POV

“Good morning, Sof.” Katie grinned, as I plopped down beside her and set my tote bag on the table.

I mirrored her grin, “Morning, Katie.”

“So, I heard something. Apparently, that bastard Cornelius is quitting. I was so shocked when my boyfriend gave me the news, I mean what could have pushed him to do that?”

I feigned cluelessness as I brought out my writing paraphernalia, “Right, but isn’t that good news? I mean a sex offender who clearly shouldn’t be loitering around and molesting women is going faraway from us.”

“Yeah, I know. I’m just worried for the girls at his new job, what if he tries to do that to one of them? I heard one of the third year girls saying something about how he used to threaten the female students at his former schools to have sex with him and if they refused, he’d make them repeat that year. That man is a pervert that can never change. I honestly just hope he goes to prison, I’ll be less worried if that happened.” Katie rambled out, concern wafting off her.

I placed a reassuring hand over hers, prompting her to stare at me, “Don’t worry about it. This is the last time that he’d try something like this. He won’t dare to touch a woman anymore, and nobody would be willing to accept him when he’s retired from working.”

Yesterday, after fucking me senseless against the bedroom wall and while we were both high on post orgasmic bliss, Roman had told me everything; ranging from how he made Cornelius sign an oath stating that he had retired from that moment henceforth, and that he’d face gruesome consequences if he dared assault another woman again to the fact that he had made him move to a small island in Brazil.

At my statement, she let out a shocked gasp which steered some pairs of curious eyes to us, I leaned in to her, and whispered, “I just know it. Tell your boyfriend to ask around for you.”

She was about to respond when three girls suddenly crowded our tables, with identical, wide grins stretching their lips.

I didn’t know either of them as I had never seen them before.

“Hi, you are Sofie Diaz right?” One of them, a girl who had pretty middle eastern features asked and I nodded tentatively.

“Uhm, how may I help you?” I asked, cynically.

“We just wanted to tell you that your fiancé is so hot. I looked into him yesterday and it said he’s the president of GV corporation and also one of the youngest billionaires in America. How did you manage to snag a man like that? We need tutorials.” Another girl, with a gorgeous halo of afro rambled out as she looked toward her friends who nodded enthusiastically in unison.

That was quite a strange question that I wasn’t expecting, so had no idea how to answer because I knew I didn’t snag Roman.

Hell, even if I wished to do that, it’d only be in my dreams because I was quite sure that if eventually, he decided to date or get engaged for real, it’d be to a woman in the same social circle with him.

In the past, I had watched a lot of Mexican soap operas and I knew many wealthy heirs never dated lowlifes like me, they only saw them as their sex toys and nothing more.

Roman probably saw me as his sex toy too.

There was no way in hell that Roman would date a poor person who came from a dysfunctional family like me.

“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I muttered, feeling that familiar, heavy sensation of despair pang my chest.

Some days ago, I had looked up Roman’s exes on the internet, mainly because I was bored and partly because of curiosity and simply said, I was left astounded by the barrage of names and pictures of the women he had dated in the past.

They ranged from wealthy heiresses and famous Victoria’s Secret models to A-list actresses.

And unfortunately, I didn’t belong to either of the categories; neither was my family rich nor was I a well-known celebrity, plus I had seen pictures of those women and Roman together.

They always looked perfect; sophisticated, classy and exquisite together.

Each one of them had always been a flawless match with him, and it made me bitterly realize that Roman was way out of my league.Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.

“Don’t mind us, Sof. We were just joking around.” The third of the trio, a pretty redhead, said.

She seemed mature and more composed than the other two.

I nodded, “Alright then.” And they turned to leave but one of them, the girl who spoke first said, “If he has a brother or cousin, please let me know. I may be abl-”

The redhead quickly cut in as she dragged her friends off, “Don’t listen to her, Sofie. That’s how she rambles.”

I darted them a smile to show I wasn’t pissed off and nodded, “It’s cool.”

After they left, Katie nudged me, and I looked in her direction, “What?”

“Are you okay? Your expression changed when they were talking to you.” She explained.

“I’m fine, I was probably thinking about something.” I lied, feigning a smile.

“You sure? Is everything alright at home? Or is your fiancé giving you problems? Does he hurt you?” She asked and I felt my heart lurch with fear in my chest.

How obvious had I been?

“No, of course not. Katie, I appreciate your concerns and all but I’m really fine, okay? We’re happy and in love, so I’d appreciate it if you stopped acting like a mother hen, please.” I said, my voice coming out harsher than I had intended.

It wasn’t like I found Katie overbearing, it was just that I was scared of her finding out that my relationship with Roman was a hoax.

At this rate, it was just a matter of time before the truth spilled out and I couldn’t have that.

I still had about seventy more days to fulfill my part of the contract.

“I’m sorry for intruding, I didn’t even realize I was doing so. I’m sorry for poking my nose into your business, Sofie.” She looked remorseful as she spoke.

“I-err, it’s fine. I’m touched that you’re concerned for me, I just want you to pipe it down.”

“Okay, noted.” She nodded before adding, “So, friends again?”

I smiled, “We never stopped being friends.” And her face relaxed in respite, “Thank goodness.”

I just shook my head fondly before averting my concentration to the lecturer as she strolled in.
