The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart

Chapter 788

Chapter 788

“She tried to immerse me in countless cocktail parties, aiming to introduce me to their so-called high society.”

Kari held no fondness for such occasions.

She equally disliked having brunch with ladies of the upper society, as she detested the idea of living behind a facade.

Kari wished to comply, but it was against her nature.

“Kari, you’re going to marry Nathan. These sorts of events will be a common occurrence.”

Setting aside whether Nathan would return to H city, he would not be Isaac’s assistant forever.

His future was bright, and cocktail parties would be a regular affair. Kari needed to adjust.

“I understand. I just don’t particularly enjoy those occasions.”

Not only would Mila drag her along, but Megan would be there, too. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.

Megan, born into privilege, was raised with the education of the elite. Her every movement and smile seemed like it was straight out of a manual. In her presence, Karj felt insignificant.

Repeatedly overshadowed, Kari developed an inferiority complex.

Brittany saw Kari’s struggle, “Why don’t you talk to Nathan?”

“Forget it. He’s been swamped lately. I don’t want to add to his troubles.”

With a heavy heart, Kari drank a few glasses of wine and soon felt the effects, slumping onto the table, ready to drift off to sleep. Hannah patted her head. “Bri, she’s really exhausted.”

Kari was spread thin between her job and attending various events with Mila.

Brittany dialed Nathan, who arrived as quickly as he could.

“Ms. Dustin, Ms. Chester, I’ll take Kari home.”

“Hold on.”

Brittany stopped Nathan. “Kari has been spending a lot of time with Mila lately. Mila is probably trying to get her to adapt quickly, but it’s clear that Kari doesn’t like this lifestyle.

Nathan, I don’t want to intrude on your relationship, but I believe if Kari changes to fit in with those elite ladies, she won’t be Kari anymore.”

Nathan realized he had neglected a lot recently. “Ms. Dustin, rest assured, I’ll talk to my mother.”

He looked at Kari, who was fast asleep in his arms. “She doesn’t need to change. She’s perfect as she is.”

Brittany breathed a sigh of relief. “Take care.”

Nathan carried Kari out, taking her home.

After removing Kari’s make-up, helping her bathe, and getting her settled in bed, Nathan was drenched in sweat. Once Kari was taken care of, he called Mila.

“What is it?”

“Stop taking Kari out,” Nathan said sternly.

Mila scoffed. “What, did she complain to you?”

Just as she thought, country girls could not handle the spotlight.

She personally taught Kari the rules of their society, and Kari could not handle it.

“It wasn’t her.” Nathan stepped out onto the balcony, looking out at the shimmering lights of Imperial City.

“She doesn’t need to change, nor does she need to blend in with the so-called aristocrats.”

Nathan liked Kari just the way she was. She did not need to change. If he wanted an elite lady, why would he choose Kari?

“Nathan, I’m doing this for your sake. If she wants to marry you, why can’t she change for you? Look at Megan; she’s about her age; why can Megan handle it so well?”

“Megan is good, but that’s her.” Nathan defended Kari, “I’m not returning to the Jarvis family. I don’t need to attend those events, nor do I need her to change. From now on, don’t meet her alone.”

After hanging up, Nathan rubbed his temples, irritated. His busy work schedule had caused him to overlook Kari’s recent fatigue. He felt a pang of guilt, resolving to have a proper talk with Kari once this was over.

Mila was livid, her face turning green.

Upon learning the news, Megan added fuel to the fire. “Ma’am, Kari Malone probably didn’t mean to tattle. They live together, after all. It’s only natural that Nathan would find out.”

They were living together?

Mila’s dislike for Kari grew.

How could a self-respecting girl live with a man before marriage?

While busy loathing Kari, she conveniently forgot her rise to power as the other woman.
