Chapter 248
In the afternoon, some of the higher–ups from the office went to play golf with Tyler. Miles was right there with him, trying to pry.
“Mr. Tyler, do you have any suppliers you’re interested in?” he asked.
Holding his golf club, Tyler replied, “Didn’t you mention Averie is good?”
Miles felt a boost of confidence. Things were going as he had expected, so he relaxed a bit. “Yeah, they’re connected to the Harris family.”
Tyler looked out far. “We’re close indeed. They’re my grandma’s maternal family after all.”
After saying this, Tyler kept walking. The weather was perfect. Miles followed, feeling like he was treading carefully, not wanting to mess up.
He kept up with Tyler for a bit. Since Tyler was busy talking to others, Miles took a moment to make a phone call.
Tyler, talking about golf with the group, noticed Miles walking away. He then quickly looked back to his conversation.
Miles called Michael, “Everything will go smoothly, Mr. Michael. Winning the bid should be a breeze. I just didn’t expect Tyler to come for an inspection.”
Michael responded with a smile, “Thank you, Mr. Miles.
The phone call ended soon after.
The next day, Michael eagerly awaited news that he had won the bid with Pinnacle Group. But it turns out that Averie Co. didn’t win.
Michael thought he misheard, so he went over the document again and again. After confirming, he called for his secretary, “Lilian, come here!”
When Lilian Moore arrived, he showed her the document. “What’s this?”
She was confused at first, but then realized what was going on. “I’ll check with Miles!”
Michael started thinking hard. What happened? It seemed like a sure win since their families were connected through marriage. The Harrises should have shown their
support since the Reeses were Maisy’s maternal family.
Miles was just as shocked by the bidding results. While he panicked and tried to figure it out, Linda called him.
But Michael took over the call, angry. “What the hell, Miles?! Did you mess with me?!”
Miles quickly explained, “You’re connected to the Harrises, Mr. Michael. Why would I do that? Mr. Tyler said he liked Averie Co. yesterday.”
“Did Ridgewood Co. bribe you?”
Ridgewood Co. was their competitor, also vying for the bid.
“Why would you think that? You’re family to the Harrises.”
Meanwhile, Tyler was listening to Michael and Miles‘ conversation on his phone. The higher–ups often had their phones monitored, which is how he could hear everything.
Tyler kept a straight face, but Linda looked terrified. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
Michael was losing it. “What happened then? I’ve been working on the Harris accounts. with you. Are you siding with Ridgewood against me?”
“Mr. Michael, why would I do that? Even if we hadn’t worked on those accounts, I wouldn’t betray you. As I’ve said, you’re family to the Harrises.”
