Chapter 980
Two hours later.
At the usual police station, in a place that's become all too familiar, sat someone who hadn't said a word.
The teacher from the prep class was anxiously trying to explain things to the police, hoping to get the students back. They kept repeating that it was their fault for not keeping a better watch, with exams just around the corner, and all of this because of a small spat. When the situation got out of hand and tempers flared, ignoring the teacher's efforts to calm things down, one student, seeing how things were spiraling, quietly dialed the police.
By the time the cops arrived, Quill was still ranting, "Who the hell called the fuzz?"
A bald girl sitting in the corner raised her hand, "You were disrupting my study time."
This bald girl, along with Mia, was known as someone not to be messed with at the prep school.
So, here they were again.
Easton looked at the familiar face, rubbing his own in disbelief. Why is it always her? Mrs. Andre, the lady of the manor, not exactly the ethereal Mrs. Cedillo type but still, could she just avoid these brawls?
"Should I call your family? I have their number right here."
Mia pressed her lips together, shaking her head like a good kid.
Easton tried again, "How about any neighbors?"
Another head shake.
"And who should we notify then?"
Mia bit her lip, glancing at the teachers still trying to clear things up, "Let's just wait it out." Anyway, she had other ideas now.
Easton handed the file to Annie, "Officer Chapman, can you take over?"
Annie stood in front of Mia, and for some reason, their eye contact always felt like they were partners in crime.
Jamie was tending to Denny's bruises. Quill sat swollen-faced, squinting at Mia, haunted by the memory of being slammed onto the table. How did the sweet girl he once liked turn out so fierce? "Quill, right? I won't mess up your arm since exams are coming, but you need to learn a lesson."
Initially, everyone was holding Quill back from hitting, but it soon turned into holding Mia back from swinging.
Quill gave Mia another wary glance, choosing to sit as far from her as he could.
Mia and Annie exchanged looks, silently agreeing not to call her family.
Annie scratched her nose, whispering, "Who's gonna sign for you later?"
Mia replied, "You."
"Under what title?"
"My husband's brother's wife."
Annie just shook her head.
Denny tried to take the blame, admitting he hit Quill since it was his fault.
Easton pointed to Mia, "Honestly, if it wasn't for this usual suspect here, I might've believed you. You might not know, but she's a regular."
Mia looked down, embarrassed. Easton, after all this time, couldn't give her a break.
With the teacher vouching for her and classmates confirming Quill threw the first punch, and since he took the worst of it, everyone agreed to settle things quietly.
Just when Mia thought she could slip away unnoticed...
"Hey, Sha, are you done with work?" Conner, ever the eager fiancé, came to pick up his 'fiancée' again.
As soon as he saw Mia, their eyes locked.
Conner stepped out to make a call, "Your wife's at the station again."
Mia ran after him, "Who were you just calling?"
Conner simply replied, "Your husband."
Mia was speechless.
The world just collapsed!NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
Mia turned to Annie, "Take it from me, better to be single forever than deal with Conner."
"Already thinking the same," Annie nodded.
That night, at Maplewood Estates.
Mia sat pouting, facing her husband.
Andre remained silent, his eyes fixed above her head. "I had my blood pressure checked today."
Mia looked down, fiddling with her baggy sweater, accidentally poking a hole in it.
Watching her, Andre took a deep breath, looking out the window to calm himself.
Their little boy was playing, lost in his own world, completely oblivious to his parents' conversation.
"I really didn't do much, just a couple of swings~"
"To protect a guy?"
"Well, there were four or five of them against just Zen, and he stood no chance. Plus, Quill thinks he's all that just 'cause his dad's got money. Zen wasn't having it, so Quill got snarky. Everyone's letting it go, so you should too, honey. Besides, went alone today, didn't bring our boy."
Henry, tired of playing, toddled over to his parents, wanting a hug from his mom.
Andre wanted to curb his wife's spirited antics. Who would've thought a prep class could stir up such trouble? "Thought you could keep it a secret?" Mia pouted, "I was just worried about your age, didn't want to risk a heart attack."
The room fell silent, and the staff retreated.
Realizing her slip-up, Mia quickly added, "Babe, I just don't want you t constantly have to rescue youre 'darling wife' from the station in front of my friends."
Andre had tried the soft approach, the tough approach, nothing worked!
Finally, he set a rule, "Every fight means a fine, starting at a million, no upper limit."
"What? A fine?"
Andre then fined her based on today's incident, "Saving a guy, five million."
"Sweetheart!" Mia stomped her foot.
Henry, seeing his mom's tactics failing, turned to his dad, stepping on his shoes and hugging his leg, asking to be picked up.
Andre bent down, scooped up his son with one arm, looking at his wife, relaxing the rule a bit, "If you fight Leo, Cooper, or Henry, no fine."
Henry tilted his head at his dad, clearly and cleverly saying, "Dad!"
Once the rule was set, Andre put it in writing, making Mia sign it.
Mia reluctantly signed, pressing her thumbprint, and Andre stamped it with a seal.
Henry, wanting in on the fun, lifted a tiny foot, "Me too-"
So, the rule paper also got a toddler's footprint.
This move hit Mia where it hurt, ensuring that from now on, she'd choose words over fists!
Later, Molly heard about the drama and stopped by Maplewood Estates. She grabbed an apple upon entering, munching as she complained, "Mia, why didn't you call me to bail you
out? As sisters, that's not cool."
Mia was still sulking over the lost money. "In the end, it was Andre who punished me. Just because I saved a guy, five million down the drain."
