Chapter 31 The Hospital’s Treatment Certificate
Outside the office, the secretary took Amanda to the lounge to rest.
“Miss Jewell, please rest here for a while. I’ll get you a cup of tea.”
“Thank you.”
Amanda stopped her and glanced at the opposite office. “By the way, does Joleen often come over?”
The secretary shook her head. “No, it’s Miss Lewis’s first time here. Mr. Dolley is usually very busy and doesn’t usually receive friends at the law firm. I didn’t know that Miss Lewis was Mr. Dolley’s friend.”
Amanda looked pensive. “Got it. Thank you.”
“It doesn’t matter. Please take a seat.”
After the secretary left, Amanda opened the album on her phone. She flipped through it to the time when she graduated from university four years ago.
It was a photo of four people. She and Joleen were wearing academic uniforms, and each held a bouquet. Beside them stood Halley and Patrick.
Joleen had taken fancy to Patrick. Amanda got to know it until their graduation, so she had always wanted to talk to Joleen, but she was a workaholic. She had been very busy in recent years. They rarely met; even with a chance, Joleen would come up with excuses.
Amanda had no idea what was going on between Joleen and Patrick at the moment.
Thinking of this, Amanda felt she had not done a good job as Joleen’s best friend.
A moment later, the sound of the door opening came from outside. Joleen had come out.
Joleen’s eyes reddened. It was clear she had cried.
“Hey, Joleen!”
Amanda wanted to stop, but Joleen left quickly as if she had something urgent to do.
“Amanda,” Patrick called out from behind her. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“No worries, Joleen isn’t an outsider. Oh yeah, what happened to her?”
With a complicated expression, Patrick replied, “It’s nothing. It’s just a matter between her and her client. It’s difficult for her to deal with a few lawyers, so she’s here to consult me. I’ll think of a solution for her later.”
“I see.” Amanda nodded. “Is there anything I can do for you?”
“Don’t worry. It’s not a big deal.”
Letting Amanda be at ease, Patrick said, “Deal with your own business first.”
Amanda looked in the direction Joleen had left and said worriedly, “After graduation, Joleen has dedicated herself to her work. She has always been independent and unyielding. This is my first time seeing her like this.”
“Everyone has moments of weakness, aren’t you the same?”
Patrick didn’t seem willing to dwell on Joleen’s matter and poured another cup of tea for Amanda. “Let’s talk about the division of the assets. I think you can ask for more compensation.”
“About how much? I’m afraid it’s already the bottom line of the Sean Family. I’m afraid they will do something desperate.”
“Perhaps, but now that Halley kidnapped you, they dare not do anything. Compared with being detained, they will pay more money. It’s not a big deal for the current Sean Family. Halley still knows what’s more important.”
“Negotiate with them as long as we can. If we can reach an agreement outside the court, I don’t want to go to court either.”
“I understand what you mean. Amanda, don’t be too soft-hearted. From beginning to end, it was Halley’s fault alone. I will make him pay the price.”
Amanda was taken aback.
For some reason, she felt that Patrick was different from before.
After coming out of the lawyer’s office, Amanda called Joleen and asked about Joleen’s situation.
[Sorry, the number you dialed could not be connected. Please dial again later.]
Since no one answered the phone, Amanda could only text her. [Why didn’t you answer the phone? Is it serious? I can’t ask too much about Patrick. After all, it’s your privacy.]C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
After a long while, Joleen replied: [I’m fine. I have a brief meeting to prepare. I’ll contact you later.]
Amanda heaved a sigh of relief after reading Joleen’s message.
Night came.
Amanda ran around all day and only returned to the hotel when it was dark.
As soon as she arrived at the hotel, she saw several missed calls on her phone, one of which was from Iverson.
She hesitated for a moment and was about to call back, but she thought he might have called the wrong person. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have just called her once. Moreover, on WhatsApp’s chatting interface, she still told him that she had met the lawyer in the morning, but he didn’t reply.
As she was hesitating, her mobile phone’s screen suddenly lit up.
The caller ID was ‘Aaron Jewell,’ Amanda’s younger brother, still studying at university.
“Sis, where are you?”
“At home.” Amanda sounded a little guilty. She hadn’t told her family about her divorce from Halley yet. “Are you short of money? I’ll transfer that to you.”
“I don’t lack money. Do you know that Mom went to the Sean Family?”
“What?”
Amanda bounced up from the bed. “When did this happen?”
“I called her in the afternoon, but she didn’t answer. I just found out when I called the shop. The neighbor said that she had left in the morning. She should be here now. Didn’t you see her?”
“I’ll tell you later.”
Amanda hung up the phone in a hurry. She didn’t even bother to put on her coat. She went out and took a taxi to the Sean Family.
Amanda’s parents had divorced a long time ago. Her mother ran a Boardgame Club alone and pulled her and her brother. Fortunately, Amanda and her brother Aaron worked hard. In such an environment, they had been among the best since they were young and were admitted to Ducco University.
Mrs. Elder Jewell always wanted her daughter to marry into a rich family, so no matter how many times Mrs. Elder Sean rolled her eyes at her, Mrs. Elder Jewell was very satisfied with this marriage. She had always wanted Amanda to give birth to a child soon and have a firm foothold in the Sean Family.
Amanda’s face paled at the thought of her mother running to the Sean Family home at this hour. So she urged the taxi driver, “Please hurry up, sir.”
Amanda kept calling her mother on the way to the Sean Family’s Villa.
It took her a lot of effort to get through.
“Hello? Mom, where are you now?”
“Amanda, how did you know I was coming today?” Mrs. Elder Jewell’s voice was pleasant. “I’m almost at your home, I’ve found some prescriptions this time, and I promise you you’ll get pregnant.”
“Mom! Don’t go!”
“What? I’m here. Hey? I have seen your mother-in-law; hello, Mrs. Elder Sean!”
