Chapter 2612
Even though Carrey was unwilling to lower himself like that, he knew it would be unwise to cross the Chief Military Governor. Hence, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and apologize to Nathan.
"Mr. and Mrs. Cross, Generals, I know what I did tonight was wrong, so I hope you can forgive me for Will's and my father's sake."
"Let's forget that this ever happened," suggested Nathan, who did not take the young man too seriously.
Fang did not feel the same way, however. "You're lucky the Chief Military Governor's more forgiving than you can ever hope to be. Now scram!"
Carrey's face was red with anger, but he dared not say another word. Instead, he slunk away grudgingly along with his injured subordinates.
Will, too, looked at his men and gestured for them to leave.
Hence, the soldiers quickly saluted Nathan before leaving in an organized manner.
Will dared not leave since he was waiting for Nathan to speak with him.
After glancing at Will, Nathan smiled once again. "Come on, Will. There's no reason to get upset over something so trivial. Why don't you come sit with us and have a drink? We'll have a great time together."
"Of course, Mr. Cross. Your wish is my command, sir," responded Will.Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
The bar returned to normal shortly after Will joined Nathan and the others.
However, Fang and his comrades were still somewhat upset with Will, so they deliberately made the man down glass after glass of alcohol. Although Will had not offended Fang and the others on purpose, he could understand why they were angry at him.
Hence, he did not turn them down when they kept clinking his mug to make him drink.
In the end, Will was so drunk that his subordinates had to carry him home.
After taking their anger out on Will, Fang and the others were finally laughing heartily again.
"You guys didn't have to do that to
Will. You're just petty, do you know that?" voiced Nathan.
"That guy ordered his men to surround us and had them aim their guns at us! We were definitely not letting him off the hook that easily," responded Fang.
"That's right. I never liked him
anyway," chimed in Destroyer. "You said he used to work for President. Windsor and was on good terms with you, but when we contacted all the commanders two days ago and asked if they agreed that you should
be the next president, the
he
only one that refused to comment."
Destroyer only realized that he had made a mistake bringing that up when he noticed Fang and Heptakill glaring at him. Immediately he shut up and said not another word.
It turned out that Fang and the others had reached out to the command centers to see if they would support Nathan as the next president.
Lucas, Elijah, and Zach all showed their support but not Will.
Fang did not want Nathan to know that there was anyone who did not support him, so he kept the truth from the man. Even at the
headquarters that morning, he had merely told Nathan that everyone in the army agreed that the Chief Military Governor should be president.
Never did Fang think that Destroyer would slip up like that.
Hearing that, Nathan frowned slightly. He had no intention to be president. However, he wanted to know who in the army was loyal to him and who was merely putting on an act. After all, how am I supposed to go into battle with my own men scheming behind my back?
When Nathan heard that Will did not support him, he realized they were not as close as he thought.
Then, he remembered that the Longs were close with the Holmeses. It's possible that Will supports Erwin because he knew that Garrett wanted Erwin to be the next president.
"I don't want to be president, so it doesn't matter to me whether Will supports me. He can support anyone he wants as long as he's doing it by the rules," uttered Nathan calmly.
"Chief, we know you have no
intention of becoming the next
president, but we're afraid that's not
what other people think," explained
n
Fang. "Not only are you the highest authority in the army, but you're also well-decorated. Many comrades agree that you should be president. You even have the support of both the former and the current president! Whether you like it or not, you're a serious threat to the other candidates. Will is the
commander-in-chief of Brimmopolis' Capital Garrison and is in charge of more than a hundred thousand men. If he supports someone else to be president, I'm afraid he might take action against you."
Nathan knocked on the table and rebuked Fang in a deep voice, "That's enough, Fang. You're getting out of "But Chief, I'm just telling you the truth,” explained Fang anxiously.
“Just keep it to yourself. Words like that will only serve to divide us; I won't have it."
"Fine," responded Fang helplessly.
Lifting his mug, Nathan suggested, "Come on, guys. We're not done yet."
Thus, the men continued to down their drinks. Even though Nathan reprimanded Fang, he took the man's warning to heart.
After all, he thought that Fang had a point. I may not want to be the next president, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be on my toes.
