Salute To The General

Chapter 2607

Nathan had just finished giving the instructions when Penny came into his office.

"Oh? What brings you here today?" he asked with a smile when he saw her.

"It's time for lunch! I saw Fang and the others earlier. They told me that they had come all the way from the North. You guys are all friends if we put your ranks aside, so I figured we should at least treat them to a meal before they return! Wouldn't you agree?" Penny said.

Nathan was starting to regret scolding

them too.

After all, they had meant well when they said all that to him earlier.

Since Penny had suggested treating them to a meal, Nathan decided to go along with it and replied, "You're right. In that case, I'll let you make the lunch arrangements. We'll all have lunch together today!"

"The arrangements have already been made!" Penny said with a smile.

It wasn't long before the kitchen had the food all prepared.

Nathan then entered his private room in the cafeteria with Penny, Colin, Sage, and Ava in tow.

The table was filled with mouthwatering dishes, and there were even a few bottles of wine on the side.

Fang, Destroyer, and Heptakill could be seen sitting in a corner of the table with nervous expressions on their faces. Despite being hardened soldiers, they looked just like kids who had done something wrong.

All three of them leaped to their feet and saluted Nathan the moment they saw him come in.

"Come on, guys! We're like brothers, so drop the formalities and have a seat! It has been forever since we last dined together! We really need to have a drink!" Nathan said while waving at them.

Feeling relieved to see that he was no longer mad at them, Fang and the others smiled and sat down.

The lunch lasted an hour, and they had finished all the wine by then.

As Fang and the others were heavy drinkers, having a few bottles of wine was not enough to even give them a buzz.

However, it would be inappropriate for them to drink like fishes at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor during working hours.

"It'd be bad for our reputation to drink irresponsibly while at work. How about you guys spend a night here in Brimmopolis? We could go out tonight and drink to our hearts' content!" Nathan said.

Naturally, Fang and the others agreed to it in a heartbeat.

Later that night, Nathan put on a set of casual attire while Penny changed into a floral dress.

The two of them then headed over to a decent-looking bar in Brimmopolis with Fang and the others.

Having chosen a nice spot to sit down, they then ordered a few bottles of liquor and drank away.

After having a few drinks, Nathan

told them, "I know what I said to you

guys in the study room was a little

harsh. While I hope that you guys

will not take those words to heart, I do want you to remember the message behind them. We are soldiers, and our job is just to protect the country. We do not get involved in anything else."

Fang and the others nodded. "Yeah, we understand."

Nathan smiled. "That's good to hear. Come, cheers!"ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

As they raised their glasses for another toast, a terrible voice could be heard singing from the side.

"We're no strangers to love... You know the rules, and so do I..."

Nathan and the others all turned toward the stage and saw a customer singing into the microphone.

He was a chubby middle-aged man with his hair slicked back and his face all red. On top of that, he even had his arm wrapped around the waist of a young woman.

His voice sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard, and his ugly appearance formed a huge contrast with the pretty girl in his arms.

Even Fang couldn't help but rant with a frown, "I can't believe he'd dare sing on stage with a voice like that! Does he not feel ashamed of himself?"

Not only did the guy not feel any shame whatsoever, but he also had a bunch of his men cheering him on below the stage.

That boosted his confidence even further, and he started acting like he was some kind of superstar.

"How's my singing, guys?" he asked gleefully.

His subordinates shouted respectfully, "Amazing as ever, boss!"

Some of the hostesses chimed in as well, “You sing really well, sir!"

Feeling satisfied, the fat man shouted, "Give me a round of applause, then!"

His subordinates immediately applauded as loudly as they could. The hostesses, too, joined in and clapped along with them.

"Those of you who clap for me shall

be rewarded!" the fat guy said as he grabbed some cash and stuffed them down the shirt of an applauding hostess, much toher delight.

The fat guy then ordered his men, "Reward all of those who applaud me!"

"Yes, boss!"

The surrounding customers all

began clapping for him the moment they heard that. Some of them did so for the money, while others simply followed suit for fearof offending him.

Seeing as everyone was applauding him, the fat guy continued his singing, "A full commitment's what I'm thinking of... You wouldn't get this from any other guy!"

His eyes scanned the crowd as he continued singing, and that was when he realized Nathan and his friends weren't clapping at all.

Judging by the looks of disgust on their faces, he could tell that they didn't like his singing at all.

Naturally, he didn't appreciate their feedback one bit.
