Chapter 1266

Steven couldn’t suppress a joyful smile as he said, “You’re right.”

That day, he truly lost control. It seemed that Mona herself hadn’t realized just how attractive

she was.

He hadn’t drunk much that day, just enough to stay rational. However, under her starry, doe- like eyes, he completely lost control.

Mona immediately smiled and said, “Actually, I was also tempted by your appearance.”

After drinking that day, her heart had raced. She found it hard to resist looking at Steven’s face and wanted something to happen between them.

But she was timid. Such thoughts only spun around in her mind, and she never dared to act on

them.

As they talked, they had already passed through the congested area. A few minutes later, they found themselves driving smoothly to their destination.

Once in the elevator, Steven couldn’t help himself as he looked at Mona. He immediately wrapped his arms around her and kissed her.

When Skylar opened the door a few minutes later, she was taken aback to see Mona with slightly swollen lips and flushed cheeks. Luckily, she understood what had just happened.

Skylar glanced knowingly at the guilty Steven and said, “Mom is cooking. She just noticed a lone salmon in the fridge and decided to make us some baked salmon.”

“Wow! Baked salmon? I just saw someone posting about that on Instagram, and I was craving it. I’ve had Mrs. Sullivan’s baked salmon before, and it’s incredibly delicious. Better than what I’ve had at restaurants.” Mona’s eyes sparkled with excitement at the mention of the dish.

In truth, Steven’s cooking was also excellent. Now, she remembered one of Steven’s strengths. He was a great cook.

At first, she had actively pursued Steven, thinking she could win his heart through her culinary skills. Unfortunately, her cooking was only mediocre. She could only cook carbonara spaghetti well enough to make it somewhat appetizing.

In the end, it was Steven who had won her over with his cooking skills. Remembering how he had playfully teased her in the elevator made her heart race even faster. She realized she was completely enchanted by him in every way.

Skylar couldn’t help but smile when she saw Mona gazing at Steven with adoration. “I love it too! I can even smell the baked salmon from here.

“I’m going to help in the kitchen and steal some cooking tips,” Mona exclaimed as she

bounced into the kitchen.

In the background, Skylar could vaguely hear the cheerful conversation between Mona and Janine coming from the kitchen.

Steven turned to Skylar after watching Mona enter the kitchen. “You canceled your flight, right?”

“Yeah, I canceled it. I’ll stick to the original plan and leave on schedule. If all goes well, I’ll return to Murida in half a month.” Skylar nodded.

Steven looked slightly worried as he asked, “What about Mr. Ziegler’s flight tomorrow?”

“He should arrive tomorrow morning. He’s not doing well now. Jeremy said a psychologist would be accompanying him back, and he might need to see a therapist when he returns,Skylar said, feeling a knot in her stomach.

Over the past three years, Paul had endured unimaginable torment–experiences that many could hardly fathom.

If Joe was still alive, then the fact that there had been no news of him in three years suggested that he might be suffering the same fate as Paul.

Just thinking about it felt like someone was pricking her heart with a needle.

Noticing the paleness of Skylar’s face, Steven quickly reassured her. “We’ve waited more than three years. One more day won’t make a difference. As for Joe… Skye, you need to let it go.”

Knowing now that Paul and Joe hadn’t been together and that only Paul had been trapped for three years was enough to prove that Joe had likely died.

Jacky’s face was equally serious. “Yeah, it’s exactly like that.”

Over the past couple of days, they had spoken with Paul over the phone. His three years of inhumane experiences had transformed him completely.

The once cocky and talkative Paul was a shadow of his former self. This change was also because of Joe.

Jacky glanced at Skylar. Noticing her pale expression, he said with concern, “We’ll be here to help Mr. Ziegler recover. You don’t have to-

“I’m fine. Three years ago, when we went to Murida, some things happened. I’ve come to terms with all the possible outcomes,” Skylar said with a slight smile, the corners of her lips gently lifting.

Jacky and Howard exchanged a look. They knew how resilient Skylar was, but they also worried that Paul’s current condition might make her think of Joe.

Over the past few days, they had come to a mutual understanding–they believed Joe was no longer alive.

Soon, the flight arrived, and passengers slowly began to emerge from the gate. Many people were greeted by the ones they were waiting for, and they looked forward with eager anticipation.

Howard and Jacky had seen their fair share of intense situations, but as they waited, both felt their palms grow damp with sweat.

Out of the corner of their eyes, they noticed Skylar standing nearby, calmly smiling. Compared to their nerves, she seemed truly composed.

Just then, three people walked out together.

At first, Skylar didn’t recognize them.

Paul had lost so much weight that he was almost unrecognizable. His face was hidden behind a mask, but visible scars ran across his forehead. His eyes remained lowered, avoiding any eye

contact. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

The people next to him were a psychologist, Gene Benson, and a bodyguard, Winthrop Keller.

The moment Jacky and Howard spotted Paul, their eyes reddened. They had known him for many years. In addition to working together, they were close friends outside of work as well.

Paul used to be outgoing, highly capable, and full of energy–traits that made him an ideal candidate for Joe’s assistant.

But after three years of being away, when he reappeared, it was like he was fading into the
