Mayra’s fractured hand had healed completely. During the week of Anderson’s absence, she enjoyed a rare period of leisure.
It would take quite some time to recover from her injury completely, but she could still manage to walk.
While Anderson was away, Mayra secretly sought out Gordon. Most of the time, Gordon would tutor her in various subjects, leaving little room for personal conversations.
The rest of the time, he taught her how to use needles and identify herbs.
Mayra often struggled, especially when two herbs looked almost identical. Frustration would sometimes drive her to the brink of upending the entire herb collection.
This day, at Paramount Hall, Mayra suddenly had a bad feeling. She couldn’t shake the sense that something was wrong, perhaps because her life had been unusually calm lately.
Clutching Gordon’s hand, she rested her chin on his palm and sighed. “This is so hard, Gordon!”
“There’s no need to rush. You’re just starting out. Learning medicine takes time and patience. It can’t be mastered overnight.”
Mayra looked around the vast Paramount Hall with a face full of worry. “You’re right. Your family business is really tough to inherit.”
Gordon replied, “Take it one step at a time. I’ll guide you.”
“And you? Did you learn all this in one go?”
“More or less. Actually, recognizing these herbs isn’t that hard. You just need to focus on one unique feature of each, and soon, you’ll be able to distinguish them”
“Alright, let’s try again.”
Gordon’s natural aptitude made it difficult for Mayra to keep up, but she was determined not to fall behind.
Time flew by, and night fell. Her phone buzzed with an alarm she had set.
She had been practicing acupuncture on Gordon’s har under his supervision, and his hand was now full of needle marks.
“I have to go. I snuck out and can’t let them find out,” Mayra said.
“Okay, I’ll take you home,” Gordon replied.
Mayra gently removed the needles from his hand and put them back in their place.
“Okay.” She packed up her things and hopped onto the back of Gordon’s bicycle.
Outside Paramount Hall, they encountered Emily, who was with a middle–aged man in a uniform and a woman in a business suit. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
Emily was in the middle, chatting happily with them. When she saw Gordon, she greeted him warmly, “Gordon. Mom and Dad, this is Gordon, who I’ve been telling you about.”
Emily’s father, Grady White, admired Gordon for his academic achievements,” Gordon, you should come to our house for dinner. I bought plenty of food tonight.”
Emily chimed in, “Yeah, Gordon. My parents are finally back home. Your dad has gone to Candor City, right? It would be perfect for you to join us tonight.”
Mayra noticed the way Emily’s eyes sparkled with happiness. She was seemingly boasting about having her parents around.
Besides Nina, Emily was the only one who knew about Mayra’s family situation.
