Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Juliet’s pulse jumped when she finally spotted the person she had long awaited.
Mikayla, all too familiar with Juliet’s crush, tried to cool her jets. Juliet, you’re the heiress of the Klein family, for goodness‘ sake. Be cool!”
“Come with me, Mikayla, please?” Juliet begged, swinging Mikayla’s hand anxiously.
Seeing Juliet all flustered and the guy standing out like a sore thumb, Mikayla just sighed.
“I knew it! I knew you’d back me up!” exclaimed Juliet, linking arms with Mikayla as they made their way across the room.
Juliet’s crush was Brantley Lindstrom, the eldest son of the Lindstrom family. Mikayla couldn’t help but wonder if fate had a hand in drawing them both to the Lindstrom brothers. While she and Jaxon had once shared a mutual love, Juliet’s feelings for Brantley had always been unrequited, a story the whole town knew. Juliet’s infatuation with Brantley had persisted for so long that it seemed almost unbelievable. Mikayla recalled Juliet declaring, “I’ve completely fallen for him in this lifetime!” Noticing Juliet’s grip on her hand tightened, Mikayla mused, ‘Juliet only gets nervous and quiet around Brantley
Mikayla knew Brantley well through Juliet and Jaxon. The Lindstrom family had a long–standing history in the business world, yet Brantley took another path, primarily due to his deep–seated animosity toward Hugo. Brantley was Hugo’s son from his first marriage. After the death of his first wife, Hugo married Queenie Lindstrom, bringing her and their young son Jaxon into the family.
Queenie and Jaxon were actually Hugo’s mistress and his illegitimate child. Right after his first wife passed away, Hugo couldn’t wait to marry Queenie. This caused a huge scandal, but Hugo
managed to keep it under control, and the rumors eventually died down. However, Hugo’s favoritism toward Queenie and Jaxon only fueled Brantley’s anger.
For ages, businessmen had sought to gain favor with government officials. Mikayla guessed that Brantley likely hoped Hugo would eventually come to curry favor with him, just as others did, to prove himself.
Brantley was exceptionally talented in his field. Within just a few years, he had become the dark horse in the workplace and attracted significant attention. It was highly likely that he would become the next mayor. And now, he was surrounded by various businessmen of Xosa, each eager to toast with him.
“Brantley.” Juliet called out first, looking affectionately into Brantley’s eyes.
“Oh, you’re here.” Brantley greeted them politely, but the complicated look in his eyes made it hard to know what he was thinking
The guests gathering around Brantley dispersed when they got interrupted by Mikayla and Juliet’s arrival.
“I’m going to the restroom,” Mikayla whispered to Juliet. She gave Brantley an apologetic smile before walking away, lifting the hem of her dress. She felt a dull stomach ache.
As expected, upon reaching the restroom, she discovered her period had arrived. Fortunately, she had a sanitary pad on hand and used it. Just as she was about to leave, she overheard some women gossiping outside.
*I didn’t expect Jaxon to choose her over the daughter of Salvatore Group!” one voice said, loud and clear.
“Yeah. It’s crazy those two cousins are involved with the same guy. People might think they’re sharing a husband,” another person chimed in.
“Exactly! Wasn’t Sylvia with the eldest son before she married the second son?” someone else echoed.
“It’s been messy since their parents‘ generation, so no surprise their relationships are tangled!” exclaimed another woman.
