Chapter 326
Someone soon picked up, and it was the familiar voice of the police officer who spoke to her the day before. "Hello, Le Soleil Police Department. How may I be of assistance?"
"Hello, officer. My name is Naomi Goodwin. I was the one who filed the police report yesterday, the one who was supposed to meet Ms. Carver's lawyer."
"Ah, yes, I remember you, Ms. Goodwin. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Well, unfortunately, I had to leave Herland last night due to an emergency, and I won't be able to return so soon. Can I reschedule the meeting with Ms. Carver's lawyer to another time? Tomorrow at noon, if possible."
"I see. Don't worry, Ms. Goodwin. I'll get in touch with Ms. Carver's lawyer and let them know."
"Thank you, officer."
"No problem."
Charles turned to Naomi the moment she got off the phone. He was a little surprised; he thought she was phoning someone else and did not realize she would be phoning the police, but on second thought, he realized she was right to do so. It was only her responsibility to notify the police and Olivia's lawyer, considering she would not be able to return to Herland that day.
"Are you going back tomorrow instead?" he asked, gazing at her. Although he had known she would not be staying in San Angelino for long, he was still surprised to learn that she would be going back so soon Naomi put down her phone and nodded. "Yes, since Sean is flying over, I think I'll leave Amelia in his hands. I need to get back to Herland tomorrow morning."
Naomi had already made up her mind to allow Amelia and Sean to settle their differences the moment she found out Sean was already on his way over. She decided that it would be best to leave things to them since it was their relationship, after all. As much as she wanted to help them, it was best not to intrude.
Charles was not surprised to hear this. He could already tell what Naomi's intentions were, so he replied, "Alright. Let's go back to Herland together tomorrow."
Naomi froze, then turned to him with a puzzled look. "Together? Aren't you going to stay here with your grandmother?"
She was rather shocked to learn that Charles would be returning to Herland with her and leaving his grandmother here.
Charles smiled. "My luggage is still
in Herland, so need to go back anyway. I'll go with you to Herland tomorrow, and I'll come back here again once we've settled matters with the police. Don't worry about my grandmother, Naomi. She'll be fine, what with everyone else keeping an eye on her now."
Charles had already planned to leave alongside Naomi. Initially, he wanted to show her around San Angelino, his hometown, but unfortunately, time was not on his side. There was always next time.
Naomi finally understood. She thought Charles had brought his belongings with him when he flew over, but it turned out he had left them back in Herland. Besides, it was clear that Charles wanted to go with her to meet Olivia's lawyer, perhaps out of concern that she would be taken advantage of should she appear alone.
Naomi opened her mouth to tell him that she would be fine on her own, but when she saw the concern on his face, she clamped her mouth shut and nodded instead. "Sounds good."
Charles smiled.
Naomi had not turned him down. She had begun to accept his presence in her life.
Charles could feel that things were beginning to change for the better.
The hospital was only about fifteen minutes from the grocer. When the taxi arrived at their destination, Charles paid the fare, and the two of them got out of the car.

pick out the best of each one.
Charles watched her in silence, knowing better than to disturb her. While Naomi was busy picking out fruit, he was busy admiring her beautiful face and the earnest look on her face. This was the best life he could ask for being able to stay by her side and keep her company, even if they were not doing anything special.
This was the life he wanted.
