Chapter 7
Evelyn scoffs for the umpteenth time as she drives down the road, biting her bottom lip each time the scene at the elevator replays in her head.
“Are you OK? You have been acting weird,” Marian asks curiously, but she just nods her head, followed by an awkward silence.
There she was, thinking that the dude was going to kiss her, but that was just her being all crazy. She hates that she thought of that, but it was all his fault, right? He made it look like he was going to do that.
Arriving at the mall a few minutes later, they both set to buy what they came for. It’s already getting late by the time they finish shopping, so she drives Marian home before she heads home.
After driving for what seemed like forever, she finally drives into her compound, and parks neatly at the garage. Stepping out of the car afterward.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
It’s almost 8pm, all thanks to Marian that they spent almost forever at the mall. She kept picking things and dropping them, and she couldn’t have left her there to herself, right?
She drags her feet to the entrance door after she picks up the shopping bags from the booth.
Stepping into the living room, she drags her tired feet to the kitchen, where she drops the bags, and returns to the living room.
“You’re finally home. I was about to call you,” her nanny, Cleo sighs as soon as she sights her.
“Sorry, I was busy at work, and after office hours, I had to drop by the mall to get some stuffs we don’t have here. I should have called you, but something came up with my phone. I’m going to get a new one tomorrow after work,” She replies to her tiredly, plunging herself onto the couch and reclining on it tiredly.
“Oh, I see. Your dad called and mentioned that he called your line, but it wasn’t reachable. I was already getting worried about you,” Madam Cleo announces, and she rolls her eyes. Why the heck was he calling her? What does he want from her? They only care about their businesses, so why the hell was he calling her?
“Ok,” She replies casually, standing up to her feet and dragging her to the stairs, “I’ll be in my room,” She further says, taking the staircase.
“Come on, honey, you don’t have to be like that, ok? They care about you. I’ve told you this several times to stop letting this bother you. They are your parents, they love you. You just have to understand them. They’re always busy, that’s why,” Madam Cleo tries to explain, as she stands up to her feet, and walks over to her
“Really? Did you say that they’re busy? They’re too busy with their only child? Do they care about me? Do they ever think about my happiness and welfare? All they care about is their business, their wealth, and nothing else. And you’re still telling me that they care about me? Is that what you call caring?” She scoffs as a drop of tears slid down her cheeks. She has been trying to put on a smile and act like everything is fine, she has been trying so hard not to let it get to her, but a part of her still feels hurt whenever she thinks about it. It hurts to pretend that is ok. Although they gave her everything, they made sure she was financially ok, and they’re providing all her needs, but that’s not entirely what she needs. She just wants their love, and that is all that matters to her.
“Evelyn…” Madam Cleo calls her again, holding her hands, and wipes her tears with her thumb.
“Come on, don’t be like this, ok? It’s just a matter of time, and everything will be fine,” She assures her, and she nods her head, even if she knows that things will never get any better. This has been going on and on for years, it would’ve changed if it was going to, but it didn’t, which means that it will never change. They will never be nice to her, and she doesn’t give a damn about that.
“Come on, go have your bath and come back for dinner. I made your favorite,” She ruffles her hair playfully, and she chuckles softly.
“I’ll be back,” And with that, she turns and climbs the staircase, heading to her room…
Mr. Turner’s mansion…
“Are you going to go through the stress of finding another secretary, or do you have someone in mind already?” Mr. Turner finally asks the question that Jayden has been dying silently for.
“But if you ask me to make a suggestion, I’d suggest you make Evelyn your secretary. She used to be my secretary before Liam took over. She’s skilled and good at what she does,” Mr. Turner suggests, and he can’t help the amount of excitement that spurs through him. This was just his plan, and it’s already falling into place, just as he wants it.
“That wouldn’t be a bad idea, dad. I think I should give her a try, but if she messes things up, then I’m getting another secretary right away,” he says to Mr. Turner, even though he knows he’s never going to do such a thing. What the hell will he stand to gain sacking the crazy girl, when he can frustrate her to death? He’s definitely going to make her pay for being mannerless.
“You have nothing to worry about, son. I’m sure she won’t mess things up. She’s really good at this. In that case, you should email her tonight, and tell her to resume as your secretary by tomorrow,” Mr. Turner further says, and he nods his head.
“Sure, dad. I will do that,” He smiles at him…
