PHB 93
“How’s your pregnancy going, Des? So far, everything’s normal, right?”
Deasy and Veronica had just finished shopping. They were currently sitting in a restaurant, enjoying their lunch.
They were supposed to meet up for the past few days, but due to their equally busy schedules, they were only able to get together now.
“In my opinion, her pregnancy is pretty normal. What’s not normal is Deasy’s behavior.”
It wasn’t Deasy but Darwin who responded to Veronica’s question. Darwin, who was Veronica’s husband and Deasy’s longtime nemesis, was also present at this lunch gathering.
Surprisingly, Darwin rarely participated when Deasy was involved. It wasn’t without reason. Darwin was convinced that whenever they were in the same place, it would inevitably lead to arguments, as usual.
“Not normal? Do you think I’m crazy?” protested Deasy, not taking kindly to the remark. “I’m perfectly sane, Win, especially considering how pretty I am.”
“Oh, really? Hasn’t that been the case all along?” Darwin responded nonchalantly. It wouldn’t feel right if he met Deasy without making her angry, but he continued, “As far as I remember, you’ve never been normal. Your behavior has always been beyond comprehension.”
“Can you give me an example?”
“You want examples? There are plenty, Des. Everywhere, friends don’t lead each other astray. Everywhere, when a friend’s marriage is on the rocks, you’re supposed to support them to stay together, offering advice, opening your heart and mind. But you? You just mess with Veronica’s head to make her divorce me and become a widow.”
“Well, that’s a different issue, Win. You’re just despicable. If you had been normal from the start, I would never have asked Sean to steal Veronica from you. I admit you’re handsome, but your personality is a zero.”
“Anyway, you’re rude. And everywhere in this world, all you find is guys assaulting girls. It’s different with you; you assault guys and take their virginity. And you’re addicted to it.”
“Damn it!” Deasy frowned and then turned to Veronica. Her lips pursed in irritation because, at every meeting, Veronica’s husband continued to bully her. Maybe this was all the accumulated frustration Darwin deliberately brought upon her for what Deasy had done to him in the past.
“Could you, Win, just for once, not be annoying when you meet me? Even if I’m not pregnant, for whatever reason, could you stop tolerating your unscrupulous remarks?”
“Just tolerate it,” Darwin taunted casually. “The angrier you get, the more you hate, the greater the chance that your child will look like me.”
“God forbid!” Deasy exclaimed in disbelief, tapping her hand on the table. It was as if Darwin’s recent words were something that must never happen. Her child’s appearance or behavior being even remotely similar to Darwin’s would be disastrous.
“Alright, that’s enough,” Veronica interjected. She had been listening silently all along, and now she took control of the conversation. “You two can’t seem to meet without arguing.”
“Your husband is annoying, Vel! He and Daniel, the Stubborn Magician, are cut from the same cloth. Cheaters and arrogant.”
“Who’s a cheater, Des?” Darwin retorted immediately. He clearly didn’t take kindly to that. “You’re exaggerating. You tend to use hyperbole a lot.”
“It’s a fact! You’ve got a diamond in the form of an angel, but you keep wasting it by choosing gravel-”
“Deasy, that’s enough,” Veronica interrupted. If this continued, Deasy’s habit of reviewing Darwin with all his flaws, a hobby she was quite fond of, would never end. “I’m seriously asking, how’s your pregnancy going? So far, everything’s been fine without any issues, right?”
Deasy nodded as she sipped her avocado juice. After nine months of enjoying her pregnancy, she now appeared visibly nervous and excited, waiting for the moment to give birth to her child.
“It’s been normal, yes. There was a problem with high blood pressure before. But it was treated, and now it’s much better.”
“You’re just prone to anger. That’s why your blood pressure shot up.”
“If I have to face model-like humans like you every day, it’s no wonder my blood pressure isn’t normal, Win. I’m sure Veronica’s blood pressure isn’t normal right now either. It won’t be long before she goes crazy being your wife.”
“Careless! Just so you know, Veronica is happy being my wife.”
“Oh, really? Where’s the proof?”
“Enough, enough. You two are such a bother. Just like kindergarten kids fighting. Noisy,” Veronica protested, shaking her head. “So, Des…” Veronica continued. “Besides the blood pressure, have you experienced any other issues or complaints during this final trimester?”
“Well, there is something else. My hemoglobin levels have been dropping a lot in the past two weeks. I’m really surprised because I don’t stay up late, and I always avoid tea and other triggering foods. But it’s still low.”
“Have you consulted with a doctor? Are you stressed?”
Deasy shrugged, looking puzzled. “I don’t think it’s stress, really. I’ve already been to the doctor. They’ve even given me vitamins to slowly raise my hemoglobin levels. Hopefully, there will be a significant change. I’m planning to see the doctor for a follow-up tonight.”
“I hope the results turn out well. Anyway, I always pray for the best for you.”
“Amen. Actually, I’m also nervous about giving birth like this, there are always issues that make me anxious and uneasy.”
“But Lucas has been taking good care of you, right?”
“Don’t even ask,” Deasy said proudly. When Lucas’s name was mentioned, she immediately lit up. “He’s the best at taking care of me. Whatever I ask for, he always fulfills. I feel really secure with Lucas.”
“That’s good to hear then. So, speaking of giving birth, is your due date this month?”
Deasy nodded again. After all the drama and problems she had gone through, she had finally reached the month when she would give birth.
When she thought about it from the beginning, she felt burdened and unable to cope. Once, she had even thought about aborting the pregnancy because she didn’t want to have a child with Lucas Orion.
But after many things happened, Deasy slowly began to accept her pregnancy and the future baby in her belly. Who would have thought that she would reach the month when she would give birth soon?
“My due date is next week, Ve.”
“Oh, it’s just a matter of counting days. That’s why you look so awkward and nervous.” Veronica reached for Deasy’s wrist, holding it tightly, and reassured her friend that nothing would go wrong during Deasy’s delivery.
“Don’t worry too much, Des. I’m sure everything will go smoothly without any complications.”
“Amen to that,” Deasy immediately responded. “I’m just a bit worried and nervous. I’m afraid of unwanted things happening.”
“Hush!” Veronica whispered while shaking her head repeatedly. “Don’t say strange things. It might actually happen. Get used to always speaking positively, no matter the situation.”
“Well, I’m really scared of having to undergo surgery, Ve. I’m prepared and I want it to be a normal delivery so that the pain isn’t as long as with a cesarean section.”
“It’s the same,” Veronica retorted. “Whether it’s normal or a C-section, nowadays, both are not painful. Besides, no matter how it happens, it’s not a problem. The most important thing is that the baby and the mother are safe and, of course, healthy.”
“Let’s hope so. Seriously, this has been bothering me for days.”Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
“If you want the birthing process to go smoothly, you should apologize and seek forgiveness from the people you’ve hurt before, Des,” Darwin chimed in again. There was always an opportunity for him to mock Deasy’s words.
“What’s the correlation between giving birth and apologizing to people, Win?”
“Well, there definitely is one. If you sincerely apologize to someone you’ve hurt, I believe they will forgive you and pray for you in their hearts. Take me, for example. If you apologize and promise not to pick fights again, sincerely and wholeheartedly, I’ll forgive you and pray for your safety.”
Deasy pursed her lips in disdain. She really didn’t want to apologize to Darwin.
“Is there any other request? I really don’t want to apologize to you, Win. It’s not me who has committed the most sins all this time.”
Watching her husband and her friend bicker back and forth, Veronica could only shake her head. She thought to herself that Darwin and Deasy would never get along, not even on Judgment Day.
“Lunchtime is over,” Deasy said, glancing at the time on her phone’s screen. “Let’s head back. I also want to rest. Seriously, I can’t stand or sit for too long like this.”
Veronica and Darwin both agreed. The three of them then got up together and prepared to go home.
However, just as they were about to get into the car, Deasy was startled. She felt something flowing from her lower abdomen down to her legs.
“Veronica…” Deasy called out anxiously.
“Yes, what’s wrong?” Veronica asked, pointing to the area around her legs.
Veronica followed Deasy’s gaze and lowered her eyes, only to find something shocking.
“Oh my, Des. Your water just broke.”
“Huh? What should we do now? Is this dangerous?”
Veronica didn’t answer immediately. She approached to get a closer look, making sure of what she had just seen.
“Win, we need to go to the hospital now. Deasy is also bleeding!”
