Chapter 197
Chapter 197
While Wilson was still furious, Trevor spoke to him gently. "Mr. Young, I'll go back home to shower and get ready for work."
He purposely stressed the words 'go home' to emphasize that he really stayed next door, which angered Wilson even more.
After Trevor left, Emma invited Wilson into her house. "Do come in and have something to drink, Uncle Young."
Hearing that, he followed her in, still unhappy about what had happened. Emma poured him a glass of warm water and gave him some time to calm himself down.
After he drank the water, he looked at Emma guiltily and said, "I'm sorry. I was trying to help you, but I never expected him to be staying next door…"
"No worries. It doesn't matter since we are just neighbors." She knew that he would blame himself for it, and that was why she had asked Trevor to keep it a secret earlier on.
Wilson uttered as his heart ached for her, "I just found out about your unrequited love toward him. It must have been really hard for you."
Hearing that, Emma nodded, "Those are all in the past, and I have forgotten about how it felt."
At one point after she had let go of the bitter past, she realized that the pain she felt previously was
nothing when Emma looked back at it. She was probably miserable back then because she was still married to him, but now that she had let go of the past, she felt at ease.
Wilson then looked at Emma and said firmly, "I plan to terminate the contract with him. You should stop collaborating with him and keep your distance."
Wilson had previously mentioned the contract termination, but now that it was brought up again, Emma could see that he had made up his mind about it. Hence, she tried to dissuade him by saying, "There's really no need to."
She knew that Wilson didn't want them to have too many interactions so that she wouldn't be bullied or wavered by him if she still hadn't let go of Trevor.
"I've already let go of the past, which is why I'm not avoiding him when it comes to my work. If I really try to avoid him, wouldn't it mean that I still have feelings for him and that I don't dare to face him?" she explained earnestly.
"That makes sense." He thought that her words were reasonable.
After some thought, he looked at Emma and said, "Anyhow, I just hope for you to be happy."
"I'm already happy," she answered while laughing softly. "I'm doing what I love, I have a great friend, and now I have you and Nina. I have all of you to lean on, so what more can I ask?"
Hearing that, he felt emotional. His heart ached for her, but at the same time, he felt proud that she grew up to be a fine lady even though she was raised by the Yates Family. That was the luckiest thing
to happen to him.
Seeing that he had calmed down, she asked, "Why did you suddenly come to Jonestown?"
"Nothing much. I'm just here to visit you." He didn't tell her about what he did to Steven and Simon as he hoped that both of them would stay out of her life forever.
When she heard that he was there to visit her, her heart felt warm. "Are you staying at a hotel? Why not —"
Since the mansion is huge, she wanted to offer him to stay there. Moreover, he was the one who purchased it, so it would be understandable for him to stay there.
However, he rejected her offer. "It's alright, it's better for me to stay at a hotel in case someone makes a big fuss about it."
Although Wilson really missed his daughter, paired with the fact that he already had the paternity test results, he wasn't in a hurry to get closer to her. When Emma was at Kingsford, she stayed at the hotel that he had arranged for her last time. Wilson managed to get hold of her hair strands and used them to perform a paternity test. When the test results came out, it stated that she was indeed his biological daughter.
As he held the test result report, he was emotional. He was confident that his instincts were right. Since they were related by blood, the connection they had was remarkable. If not, he wouldn't be so fond of her for no reason.
"Right, there's a film and television industry gala tonight. Will you be attending?"
"Susanna told me about it, and she wants me to accompany her," she answered while nodding her head.
Initially, Susanna's plan was to attend with Adam. However, in order to avoid being pestered by the relentless reporters about their scandal, the two decided to attend separately. Thus, Susanna asked for her accompaniment.
"Remember to put on the jewelry that your grandma gifted to you," Wilson reminded her.
If it wasn't for his reminder, Emma would have already forgotten about it. The first thing she did after moving into this house was to buy a safe to store the jade jewelry set.
Emma felt rather embarrassed as she replied, "I'm just a mere screenwriter. Wouldn't it be inappropriate for me to wear such expensive jewelry?"
Wilson naturally knew that Emma wasn't the kind that enjoyed showing off, but he insisted on her wearing it. "Emma, you don't have to feel like a nobody when you attend future occasions. The Young Family's fortune is enough to support you." All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
He was referring to her as his biological daughter and not just his goddaughter. In the future, when the opportunity was ripe, he would definitely tell her the truth.
"Sure," she answered before asking, "By the way, will you be attending the gala tonight?"
"Yes," he answered. "They sent me an invite earlier on. I typically don't attend events that are held in another town, but since I'm at Jonestown, I should tag along."
"That's great." Emma was happy that he would be attending as she felt more confident whenever he was around.
"Since it's your rare visit to Jonestown, I'll bring you around town during the day since we have some free time," Emma suggested enthusiastically.
"Sure." Wilson agreed without hesitation. "It'd be great if we can visit the area where you grew up."
He wanted to see where she grew up so that he could further understand her past.
Emma thought that it was a good suggestion, and both of them left the house soon after. She planned on bringing him for breakfast at the suburbs where she grew up. When both of them stepped out of the house, they bumped into Trevor who was dressed in a suit and ready to go to work.
When he saw the both of them, he asked, "Mr. Young, where are both of you heading to? I can give you a ride."
"What's your motive?" Wilson scoffed.
Hearing that, Trevor was speechless. However, Wilson seemed to be right since his aim was to get Emma back.
"We shall not hold up President Bateson," Emma responded politely.
Trevor decided to give up since Wilson was there. If he insisted, he was worried that Wilson would break his leg off since he seemed ruthless. Also, he was vexed that Wilson decided to recognize
Emma as his goddaughter as his presence was an obstacle to his pursuit of the woman. Seeing that both of them were out early in the morning, he was curious as to what both of them were up to. Are they going on a f*cking date? Perhaps I should get someone to be on their trail, he thought to himself.
