Chapter 58
Chapter 58 She Still Cares About Me
"What did you say?!"
That wasn't Emily speaking; it was Sophia, who had hurried over.
She ran over with her already swollen belly, just in time to hear Nathan suggesting she have an abortion!
Sophia was instantly in tears. "How could you say that, Nathan? You know how much I've sacrificed for you. This child is your firstborn and the future heir of the Reed family. How could you treat him like this?"
Sophia, now pregnant, had stopped wearing makeup.
Without her refined appearance, she looked like a completely different person.
Nathan had seen enough of her in recent days, but he usually returned home in the dead of night, unable to see clearly.
Now it was daytime, and the sun illuminated her features completely, making her even more irritating to look at.
What was even more terrifying was having Emily next to her for comparison. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Nathan glanced at her but didn't want to look at her anymore, turning his head away. "Why did you come out?"
"If I didn't come out, how would I catch you having secret meetings with her behind my back?" Sophia pointed her finger at Emily's nose, demanding angrily, "Why did you come here? You say you want a divorce, but you're just playing games of rejection and attraction with Nathan in front of others, then secretly seducing him. Emily, what right do you have to compete with me?"
"That's enough! Sophia, shut up for a moment. Emily is your sister..."
"I don't have a sister!"
"Nathan," Emily spoke calmly, "the grievances between her and me is none of your business. I don't need you to stand up for me. I can handle it myself."
Nathan, angered by these words, turned to leave, but Sophia held onto him tightly. "Nathan, where are you going? I'm still pregnant. What if Emily tries to harm me? Can you stay to protect me?"
"She would harm you?" Nathan laughed as if he had heard a joke. "Do I not know her character? It's only you who would harm her."
Emily sneered inwardly. Nathan seemed to have woken up this time and recognized Sophia's true colors.
Emily pulled Sophia's hand, separating her from Nathan.
"Nathan, I need to talk to her. Could you leave, please?"
Nathan snorted unkindly. "Why should I listen to you? If you tell me to leave, I'll leave?"
"Then stay where you are."
"You want me to stay put?" Nathan suddenly chuckled, his tone becoming flippant. "Emily, I've already admitted my mistake. Can't you forgive me this time? In high society, it's normal for wealthy men to have mistresses, right? I only have one; I'm already a good man. As long as you come back, I'll do anything you ask."
Emily felt disgusted hearing this.
According to Nathan, wealthy men should have many mistresses, and he should be commended for only having one affair? He had only cheated once, so he should be celebrated?
Emily shook her head. "I don't like dirty things. My husband belongs to me alone. Marriage should be exclusive. Sophia might accept it, but I don't."
"Neither do I!" Sophia broke free from Emily's grip, hysterically shouting, "I'm pregnant for you, giving birth to your child. Why should you be allowed to find a lover?" Nathan clenched his teeth. "I'm talking to Emily. What business is it of yours? Why are you interfering?"
"I'm your son's mother! Don't I even have the right to speak?"
"Now is not the time for this discussion! Go back home!"
Nathan was getting anxious seeing Emily's lack of response.
Did Emily really not care about him anymore?
Impossible.
How could she endure four years of being bullied if she didn't care about him?
And they had only been apart for less than a month; she wouldn't move on so quickly.
William needed money, and Jackson
gave her some money to help. Maybe Emily's relationship with Jackson was just as she described, merely platonic. Perhaps Jackson liked Emily, but he could tell that Emily didn't like him back.
All those things she said before, were she just deliberately trying to upset him?
This just proves that she still has her own feelings.
With this in mind, Nathan finally felt relieved. As long as Sophia stopped causing trouble, coaxing Emily back would only be a matter of time.
