Chapter 684
Chapter 684
“But even if they’re applying for the conviction to be overturned, it doesn’t happen that fast! According to how it normally
goes.”
Before Jenny could finish speaking, she was interrupted by her father. “Don’t forget who’s on her side now!” Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
Jenny went silent immediately. Right… There was Jackson!
The normal process was only reserved for commo
“Okay, no matter what, once this news breaks out, we’ll have to come up with our view on the matter. You mustn’t offend the Valors because of this matter, do you understand?” asked Quinton to his daughter.
Jenny almost snapped her phone in half when she heard that.
When the charges had initially been read out, she had deliberately insulted Serenity and made a lot of noise while accusing her of murdering her sister.
And yet, her father seemed to be asking her to issue a public apology to Serenity. How embarrassing would that be?!
“Do you hear me, Jenny?” Quinton’s tone was surprisingly serious. “Don’t drag our family down! Remember, all I want is for our family to last forever!”
Jenny took a deep breath before she answered, “I understand!”
After hanging up, she smashed her phone to the floor.
Regardless of the circumstances, she still had to swallow her anger, Sooner or later, she would have to appear before the media and bow her head in apology to Serenity.
Serenity stared at the court verdict in her hand. It felt surreal. Had they… really managed to overturn her conviction? The crimes that had weighed down so heavily on her shoulders had finally been taken off her back.
Who would’ve thought that her case would be overturned so quickly?!
At one point, she thought that she would break down in tears when she received this document. After all, this desire to restore her innocence had been constantly on her mind.
In actuality, when she received her verdict, she felt sapped of all energy. All she wanted right now was a good night’s sleep. Like an invisible shackle, the conviction had kept her locked up for far too long.
Now that these shackles had been lost, she felt almost weightless.
“What’s the matter? Aren’t you happy?” asked Jackson, who was staring a hole through the verdict.
“Quite the contrary, I’m very happy!” said Serenity before letting out a long sigh. “Maybe this is the happiest day I’ve ever had since that incident. I just feel incredibly tired. I need to catch some sleep. Maybe after waking up, I’ll be able to find the ‘
me‘ from before.”
“Then sleep tight,” said Jackson.
Serenity nodded her head lightly then rested her head on his shoulder. “I’ve been declared innocent, and they’re going to restore my right to practice as an attorney. But… after four whole years, I doubt I
still remember the things I learned before. Do you think I can still be an attorney?”
“If you wish to do so, I don’t see why not.”
“I’m thinking if I should be a lawyer again!” said Serenity with a hopeful voice. “I’ve worked myself to the bone for so many years just to be a lawyer. Of course, I wish to do so!”
Jackson remained silent. Then, Serenity whispered into his ear, “Thank you, Jack… if it weren’t for you, maybe I’d never be able to overturn my conviction. I’m so lucky to have met you…”
As her voice grew softer, she slowly shut her eyelids and fell asleep.
