Chapter 1039 Do Not Yell At My Sister
The next day, Nan Zhengde's condition improved further, allowing him to sit up and read in bed.
At his request, Ning Ran brought the two children to visit him at the hospital, where they ran into Bai Hua.
She didn't really care about Nan Zhengde. She just felt obliged as his daughter-in-law to show concern in order to receive the approval of her elders.
That was the reason why she came to the hospital every day despite her reluctance to do so.
The moment Dabao and Erbao emerged from the elevator, they were greeted by the sight of Bai Hua sitting in the corridor.
When both of them glanced in Ning Ran's direction, she instructed graciously, “Dabao, Erbao, greet Grandma.”
Regardless of how they hated Bai Hua, they still had to address their grandmother on account of her undeniable status.
“Grandma,” both children called out in unison.
“Oh, I see you even brought the children here in your attempt to curry favor with Dad. I'm amazed at how good you are at scheming,” Bai Hua remarked sarcastically.
Ning Ran was rendered speechless by her words.
I can't believe Bai Hua is so narrow-minded that she would think that I'm fighting for attention just because I brought the children. What kind of logic is that?
“Don't speak to Mommy that way!” Erbao retorted with a huff.
She might not fully understand the meaning behind Bai Hua's words, but the hostility in them was unmistakable.
Moreover, the children could sense their grandmother's resentment toward them all this while.
“How dare you talk to me like that, you brat?” Bai Hua barked.
“Don't yell at my sister!” Dabao, too, glared at Bai Hua.
“Why are you also shouting? Did your mother teach you to do that? I can't believe how rude you are!” Bai Hua scolded in return.
“You're the one who's rude! You don't deserve to be our grandma!” Erbao shouted back angrily.
“D*mn it! Ning Ran, is this how you raise your kids?” Bai Hua screamed as she directed her attention toward Ning Ran.
Ning Ran snorted as she replied, “I don't mind you insulting me, but what's the point in disparaging the children too?”
“Your children are just as uneducated as you are!”
Soon, sobs filled the air.
Erbao had burst into tears abruptly.
Her gentle sobs quickly turned into a full-blown wail.
As the entire floor was extremely quiet after being cleared out, her cries were quickly heard inside the ward, causing Feng Wan to come out at once.
“What's wrong, Darling? Why are you crying?”
The sobbing Erbao ran up to Feng Wan. “Great-Grandma... Waah!”
Feng Wan quickly pulled Erbao into her arms. “What happened? Tell me who bullied you.”
“Grandma hit me!” Erbao continued to wail.
Flying into a rage, Bai Hua thundered, “Have you gone mad, Bai Hua? How dare you hit my great- grandchild? I told you not to come here, but you insisted on doing so. And now, you end up hitting Erbao. Why do you keep getting on my nerves?”
After being blindsided by Erbao's tactic, Bai Hua was left at a loss.
“She's lying. I didn't hit her!”
“In that case, why is she crying? A child would never cry for no reason,” Feng Wan snapped.
“Mrs. Nan, Erbao wasn't hit. It didn't happen,” Ning Ran quickly clarified.
Even though Bai Hua was despicable, Ning Ran couldn't tolerate the children resorting to such methods.
Allowing them to think that lying was acceptable would only be detrimental to their future growth.
It was fine to lie during play once in a while, but Ning Ran couldn't condone such behavior for fear that the children would assume it was the correct and smart thing to do.
“See, Ning Ran said that I didn't hit her. The child is clearly lying!” Bai Hua frantically defended herself.
“Unlike you, Ning Ran is well-mannered! Get out of the hospital now and don't let me see you here again!” Feng Wan lashed out.
“Mom...”
“Go now before I get security to throw you out!” Feng Wan bellowed.
After throwing Ning Ran a vicious glance, Bai Hua had no choice but to leave for the elevator.
Once Bai Hua was gone, Erbao apologized immediately, “I'm sorry, Great-Grandma. Grandma didn't hit me; she only screamed at Mommy and me. Since Mommy and I can't talk back to her, I had no choice but to get you to help. I know what I did was wrong.”
Feng Wan responded by giving her great-granddaughter a hug. “Don't worry about it. She has always been an annoying person. Let's forget about her now. Come, I have a treat for you!”
Meanwhile, Ning Ran was speechless at how Feng Wan pampered the children.
She's going to spoil them at this rate.
When they arrived at the ward entrance, Feng Wan turned around and said, “Chai Hua is having someone send food over. Why don't you join us for a meal? Anyway, I feel like having soup, so can you see if there's any around and buy some for me?”
Ning Ran was briefly stunned.
Since someone is bringing food over, why doesn't she get the person to do it instead of asking me? She clearly wants to divert me to someplace else. She could have just told me directly.
“All right, I'll go out and take a look. However, the soup sold in small shops isn't really going to be any good. I'll find a hotel nearby and get their head chef to prepare a bowl for you instead.”
Since Feng Wan didn't want her around, she had no choice but to comply.
“Okay then. Please help look around, but it's fine if you can't find any.”
Feng Wan ended her sentence with a smile. Both parties had no illusions as to each other's intentions.
Thereafter, Erbao dashed into the ward and greeted affectionately, “Great-Grandpa...”
“Hi, Erbao. Are you here to see me?”
“Mm-hmm. Does it still hurt, Great-Grandpa? You have to be brave. You can't cry even if it hurts,” Erbao comforted him as if she were an adult.
Nan Zhengde quickly clarified, “I didn't cry. No matter how painful it got, I didn't cry!”
Erbao chuckled adorably before replying, “That's really brave of you, Great-Grandpa. You'll get a red flower as a reward.”
Nan Zhengde couldn't stop himself from smiling ear to ear. “Thank God it's a red flower. I would be troubled if I were to get a white one.”
Feng Wan snapped by the side, “Stop spewing nonsense.”
Her response caused Erbao to cover her mouth at once. “I'm sorry, Great-Grandma.”
“It's not your fault. I was reprimanding your great-grandpa, not you.”
Only then did Erbao feel a sense of relief.
Having expected Erbao's arrival, Feng Wan had already prepared a mountain of snacks.
Salivating at the sight of them, Nan Zhengde got Erbao to get him some when Feng Wan stopped him.
“This isn't like you. You don't usually eat sweet stuff, yet you want to do so now in your current condition? I'm not going to allow it!”
“Watching Erbao eat suddenly gave me the craving. That's why I wanted to give them a try. Since the doctor didn't say that I have to avoid anything sweet, just let me have a little, all right?” Nan Zhengde pleaded.
“No, you can't have any at all!”
When Feng Wan rejected his request, Erbao came over to comfort him, “Be good now, Great-Grandpa. Why don't you wait till you're well before having some?”
“All right, all right. You're right, Erbao,” Nan Zhengde replied with a grin.
“Come over here, Erbao,” Feng Wan instructed.
With a piece of chocolate in her mouth, Erbao went over obediently. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“Are both of us best friends?” Feng Wan asked.
“Of course.” Erbao nodded.
“Would you lie to your best friend?”
Erbao's head shook in response. “No.”
“In that case, let me ask you something—are Daddy and Mommy on good terms?”
Unsure about what Feng Wan meant, Erbao turned toward Dabao, as he was the one who would usually answer the difficult questions.
“Everything's well between the two of them,” Dabao replied.
“Did they argue?” Feng Wan remained skeptical.
“No,” Dabao and Erbao said in unison.
