Chapter Four

To Tame A Monster's Pet Lily's POV

I smiled as I finished up the repairs on my dress.

It's almost as if the Lycan King hadn't burned it after he killed a girl who was standing next to me. After I

was done dressing up the burn wound I got from that encounter, I made my way back to the common

room where I was to stay with all of the other girls. When I entered, they were also bickering about the

assignments we were just given, “Look, none of you bitches are going to ruin my chances at becoming

the Lycan King’s Luna. So, if anyone gets to go into his bedroom to do his laundry and bring him foad,

it'll be me”

Anny stated. Unsurprisingly to me, no one else spoke up to argue.

It seemed like everyone else in the room had a leveled head on their shoulders. As for me, I didn't care

what assignment I took on.

I just wanted to be as far away from the Lycan King as I could be.

Ideally, I wouldn't want to look at him ever again. “Okay, that's all fine and great, Anny, but the most

important task on this list is cleaning out Cerberus's kennel..”

“What? That three-headed monster?” “Yeah, I think I'll pass..”

“What a tough decision—do I want to be burned alive by a cold, ruthless, Lycan King, or do I want to be

mauled to death by a three- headed monster dog?” I shook my head. While Cerberus was undoubtedly

one of the scariest creatures any of us had ever seen, he was still a dog. His ferociousness comes

from being so loyal to his master.

If anything, I feared him less than I did the Lycan King. “I'll do it,” I spoke up. “What?’ Anny looked at

me with a perfect eyebrow raised. “I'll go clean out Cerberus’s kennel”

The other girls looked at me, for the second time, like I had lost my mind.

They laughed but did so quietly as to not disturb the Lycan King. "You can't be serious, right?"

I looked at the black-haired girl who always seemed to be glued to Anny’s hip.

I remember her being in my English class—her name was Katelyn.

I shrugged my shoulders. “I don’t see why not. None of you will do it and someone has to or it'll really

piss off the Lycan King..”

“Yeah, but now you're just being stupid”

Anny sneered. “That monster isn’t going to give you a free pass just because you decide to be nice to

it.

It'll eat you up in a heartbeat”

looked at the other girls who nodded their heads in agreement. “Don't pretend that you're some

monster veterinarian.

It's only going to get you killed”

“Normally, I don't like agreeing with Anny, but she’s right,” Clarissa spoke up. We were in the same art

class together. She was always so soft-spoken and nice. "It’s not just an ordinary dog, Lily.

That thing is a monster. No one here can keep you safe from it if it decides to attack you”

"You're basically on your own. You know the Lycan King isn't going to care if we die to that beast. He

killed one of our own without batting an eye”

The other girls murmured in agreement.

I sighed.

If it’s the most important task on the list, someone has to do it, okay? You guys can fight over who

wants to make the Lycan King breakfast or whatever. Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.

I'm going to go clean the kennel and just get the hell out of this palace for a little bit”

I made my way outside before any of them could protest any further.

I walked around the palace and to the spacious backyard and noticed that it was completely on the

opposite end of the main wing of the palace.

Thank the Goddess...

It’s a lot further away from where the Lycan King stays. A large cage sat in the backyard and was

covered with blood and feces.

The smell was so rancid I thought I was going to throw up. Even if Cerberus is a beast, he deserves

clean living conditions...

The supplies in the back shed were more than helpful with cleaning up the horrible-looking cage.

It was like it hadn't been cleaned in such a long time. Even if Cerberus was a beast, he still deserved

clean living conditions. After I was done, I was getting ready to put up the cleaning supplies when a

rush of hot breath washed over me.

I slowly turned around to see Cerberus standing no more than 20 feet from me. How come I didn't hear

him at all? When we made eye contact, Cerberus came rushing toward me with such intense speed.

I closed my eyes tightly and braced myself for the worse. Well, I didn't think I was going to die this way

but the girls did warn me of this... But the pain I imagined was going to strike me never came.

I opened my eyes to see one of Cerberus's heads sniffing at my feet, while the other licked at my chin.

The third looked at me with a curious expression.

I couldn't suppress the smile from forming on my face. “You're just a giant dog..”

Slowly, I stretched my hand forward to let Cerberus get used to my scent.

Then after he licked my hand, I began to pet him. Confidence washed my fears away and I knew it was

at that moment that he didn’t mean any harm.

I then reached into my pocket to pull out some dog food that I had stashed away.

The dog kibble looked like any old kind you could find in a pet store, and honestly, I was skeptical that a

dog like Cerberus ate this stuff.

L opened my palm to let Cerberus eat the food out of my hand but instead, he sat upright and refused

to go near it. “Aren't you hungry?” I held my hand up to Cerberus’s face. He turned his noses upright

and away from the food again. “Is there something wrong with the food? Why won't you eat this?” “You

call this food? I'm Cerberus—a loyal pet and guardian to the Lycan King.

I only eat fresh meat”

I took a step back and shook my head. When I saw that no one was around me, I looked back at

Cerberus with a confused look. “You understood me?” “I believe I should be the one asking you that

question,” Cerberus responded. “I... You know what? Let's just get you that fresh meat”

I honestly didn't have the mental capacity to process what was going on or how I was able to talk to

Cerberus, so I decided that it was going to be future me's problem to deal with. After I snuck into the

kitchen to get a slab of raw beef and three large chicken breasts, I ended up spending the rest of the

afternoon with Cerberus. He was like any other dog that enjoyed running around in a spacious yard

and playing catch. Surprisingly, I was enjoying myself.

I didn’t think experiencing positive emotions was something possible at the Lycan King's castle. My

right arm began to ache; undoubtedly because of the burn injury.

I laid on the lawn to rest as my mind swirled with the uncertainness of my future.

This is my life now... A servant to a cold-blooded killer whose dog I can apparently communicate with.

I turned my head to the side and saw Cerberus laying next to me. He licked my hand gently as if he

was trying to comfort me. And while I wanted to get up to go and rest in my room, I found myself unable

to. Exhaustion gripped my body tightly as my vision blurred into nothingness, and I passed out.
