My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0383

Chapter 0383

Candice had never expressed her dislike and hatred for Sonia so directly in front of Alex. However, the pain and anger that had been suppressed in her heart couldn't be contained when she thought about her grandfather's death and Sonia's unrepentant and arrogant attitude.

Her grandfather’s death couldn't be treated as a simple past event. The mistakes made by Sonia had to be repaid. Even if Alex wanted to protect her, Candice wouldn't let him off easily.

It was a matter of justice. Why should someone who had committed wrongdoing go unpunished?

Candice lifted her head, locking eyes with Alex without flinching. His eyes were like a silent and deep sea, concealing a storm within.

After a moment, Alex looked away, his expression complicated. In a low and deep voice, he spat, "As you wish."

His words carried indiscernible emotions.

He left, while Candice stood at the doorway for a moment before re-entering her room.

A timely call from Yana interrupted her thoughts.

Yana said over the phone, "I heard Hanley is going to Solaris to be with you."

Candice corrected her. "He's coming to order materials." © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

Yana chuckled. "It’s the same thing. The point is that he’s going to Solaris. Anyway, I'm so bored in Dorrington. How about I go to Solaris to keep you company? I've got nothing to do here!"

The incident of Yana getting drunk because of her engagement with Mason had never been brought up again. It was as if it had never happened.

Candice looked at the darkening sky outside and replied with a smile, "The weather in Solaris hasn't been great lately. You might be better off in Dorrington."

Yana groaned. She chatted with Candice for more than ten minutes before hanging up.

Just then, Candice’s takeout arrived, She opened the door to find a tall, slender young man in black sportswear and a yellow vest.

Candice frowned slightly as the young man, wearing a black baseball cap with the brim pressed low, said, "Ms. Renault, here's your takeout."

Candice was slightly startled, but she said calmly, "I'm sorry. My friend just ordered another takeout for me, so I won’t be needing this. Could you please take care of it for me?"

The young man seemed taken aback by her response.

Right then, Candice closed and locked the door. She even pushed a nearby stool against it.

After completing these actions, she realized she had broken into a cold sweat.

Due to her habit developed during business trips, Candice never used her real name when ordering takeout or shopping online. She had always used the pseudonym, Candice Roberts.

However, the person just now had addressed her as Ms. Renault.

The strange occurrences that had occurred recently suddenly made sense to her.

Candice covered her chest, trying to suppress her nervous and frantic feelings. She was sure someone was onto her.

She took out her phone, intending to contact someone, but hesitated. She wasn’t sure who to call.

She didn't want to worry Hailey and the others in Dorrington, and she didn’t have any close friends here.

Her mind drifted to Alex.

Candice bit her lip and decided to call the hotel front desk instead.

Candice had a rough night. She kept feeling like someone was knocking on her door, causing her to toss and turn in bed.

She was startled and scared the whole night.

When she left her room the next morning, she looked disheveled.

In the hotel lobby, she ran into Sawyer, who was surprised at the sight of her.

"Candice, are you sick? You look so pale."

As he spoke, footsteps approached from behind, and Alex's deep voice sounded.

"Have you set up the meeting with Mr. Kemp?"

Sawyer quickly turned around and replied, "Yes, it’s all set up."

Hearing that, Alex hummed in acknowledgement and said, "Let’s go."

Sawyer turned around to glance at Candice and whispered to Alex, "Candice is still here, and the conference hall is in the same direction as Mr. Kemp's company."

"Who’s going to make up for the time wasted?" Alex strode past Candice without even glancing at her.

Sawyer flashed a slightly awkward smile at Candice. "Today's collaboration is very important. It took Mr. Elysian a lot of effort before Mr. Kemp finally agreed."

Candice observed Alex's well-dressed figure, her eyelashes casting a subtle shadow. However, she opted to remain silent.

She took a cab as usual to the conference hall. On the way there, she kept feeling that a car was following her.

She wasn’t sure if her heightened alertness stemmed from last night's incident or sheer caution.

When Candice arrived at the conference hall, she ran into Angela.

Noticing Candice's pallor, Angela exclaimed, "Whoa, did you pull an all-nighter at the club? Why do you look so worn out?"

Candice asked Angela in a hushed tone, "When I arrived, did you feel like someone was following me?"

Angela looked bewildered. "Who? I didn’t see anyone. It was just you alone. What's going on?"

Angela's confusion persisted as they entered the conference hall. Unexpectedly, Sonia was there too.

Angela clicked her tongue. "Why is she here again? It’s just Redshade Corperation’s tender conference. Why does she always act like a she’s in charge? Is she here to supervise or something?"

Following Angela's gaze, Candice glanced at Sonia and unintentionally noticed a red mark on Sonia's neck.

Her gaze slightly darkened, and she looked away.

Throughout the day, Candice stuck to groups—either with Angela and the others or with Abel and Yondu.

Sonia glanced at her several times, seemingly wanting to approach but never finding the opportunity.

To be honest, Candice didn't think Sonia could do anything, but it was always wise to stay vigilant.

Therefore, she almost didn't go anywhere alone today.

In the afternoon, a call came from Henry.

Candice didn't even know how he got her contact information. When the call connected, Henry asked, "Where are you?"

Candice was in a corner of the conference hall; she didn't go outside to answer the call.

For a while, Henry didn't hear her response. Impatiently, he asked again, "What's the relationship between you and the man you were with? Is he really your child's father?"

Candice, already mentally exhausted, couldn't tolerate Henry's nonsence.

She replied, "I told you that day that my life has nothing to do with you. Don’t call me again."

Taking her response as confirmation, Henry raised his voice.

"Candy, my dear! That's Mr. Elysian from Aether Corporation! Well, I’m sorry for how I treated you before. Why don’t you invite him for dinner? Just the three of us. It’ll be my treat. Take it as my apology, and also a welcoming dinner. We’re family after all, so we should let bygones be bygones.

After the meal, we’ll start anew. The next time you’re here… No, after tonight's dinner, come home with me. I'll arrange everything for you and make sure you have a great stay."

Henry narrated his plan as Candice listened with a blank expression.
