Chapter 0329
Chapter 0329
Candice looked at Alex with doubts in her eyes.
The office was very quiet. Originally, Candice hadn’t wanted to enter. She had intended to wait for Alex in the lounge outside. She hadn’t expected Helen and Nina to be there, however. She had no choice but to enter.
Inside, she faced Alex's cold gaze, clenched her palms slightly, and tried to stand up straighter.
However, Alex swept her a glance before averting his sight. His tone remained the same. "Does it mean I don't know right from wrong because I didn't testify for you? Candice, are you a little too domineering?" He dialed an internal phone number, and said, "Come in."
Sawyer entered as Alex hung up the phone. Alex raised his chin and his cool gaze fell on Candice again. "Send Miss Renault out."
Sawyer took two steps forward and said, "Candice, come with me."
Obviously, Alex now refused to communicate. Candice was looking down and she fiddled with her fingers, as if she wanted to say something.
Then she heard Alex's voice again. "Sawyer, let me remind you one last time, not just anyone can enter my office."
The words on the tip of Candice's tongue could only be swallowed back. She took a deep look at Alex and turned around and left.
Sawyer accompanied her all the way downstairs. In reality, his relationship with Candice was not bad. Seeing that Candice was quiet the whole way, he pondered for a moment before speaking. "I’ll help get a ride for you."
At his words, Candice looked up and shook her head. "No need." She left. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Sawyer stood watching Candice's figure disappear. Once she was gone, he turned around and returned to the company.
What he did not know was that after Candice turned the corner, the initial gloom on her face disappeared. She took out her phone which had been in her bag, switched off the voice recording, then continued on her way.
Her original plan was in pieces and it made Candice a little frustrated. She had not planned to ask Alex so directly, but considering that Helen and Nina were there, she reckoned that they wouldn’t give her much time to talk to Alex. She’d had no choice but to change the way she spoke at the last minute, speaking in a straightforward manner.
She looked at the still image on her phone, her emotions swirling in her eyes.
-
Alex looked at Helen who was still seated on the sofa. He could not be bothered to show any emotion, and asked coolly, "Anything else?"
"Why? Can't I come if nothing is the matter? Alex, don't forget, I'm your mom," Helen said.
"So, what else is the matter?" Alex remained impassive as he looked at Helen quietly.
Helen had always maintained a sophisticated and elegant image outside. She looked at Alex with obvious anger on her face. She restrained her emotions. "Nina, go out and wait for me first. I have something to discuss with Alex."
Nina gracefully stood up. "I'll go downstairs first and get familiar with my future position."
Helen's calm demeanor held until Nina left. The moment the office door closed, her expression collapsed, and she glared at Alex. "What was your attitude just now? What do you mean you don't have time to be a teacher?"
Alex put down the documents in his hand. "As you can see, I'm very busy."
Helen's face remained ugly. She suppressed her anger and reminded Alex. "Let me tell you, Nina coming to Aether was your father’s suggestion. If you have the guts, don't show your displeasure to me, show it to him! If you really have the ability, hurry back to the head office. Otherwise, do you think you have the qualifications to go against the family's wishes with just these things in your hands?"
As Helen spoke, a hint of complex emotions slowly emerged in her eyes. She looked at Alex, and her anger gradually subsided.
"What's wrong with Nina? Her looks? Her family background? Her academic qualifications? Which of these are not outstanding? Why do you have to insist on liking those women who are not fit to be at the front?" By the end of the conversation, Helen's mood stabilized. But as she continued, a new rollercoaster of emotions were ignited. "I don't care about anything else, but when it comes to Nina, your father and I are on the same page. As for anything else, you'd better think it through yourself."
Alex's hand, which was flipping through the documents, paused for a moment, then he casually responded, "If there's nothing else, you may leave."
When Helen left, she slammed the door hard.
Alex kept his gaze on the documents in his hand, appearing unaffected at all.
-
Candice had gotten a ride directly back to the villa. However, halfway through, she received a call from Hanley. "Are you still at Aether?"
"I just left,” Candice said. “I have to trouble you to contact Mr. Bowman. I still have something to ask him."
"Sure," Hanley replied.
Candice came to her senses and asked Hanley, "What's wrong? Is anything the matter?"
-
When Candice brought the things Hanley needed to the hospital, he was at the inpatient building waiting for her.
Seeing her arrive, he let out a gentle cough. "Sorry to trouble you."
Candice held the bag. "Not a problem. These are normal situations. It's just, will your sister really be able to use all these things?"
Hanley had gotten Candice to help purchase some personal feminine items. He was a little stunned and his face was very awkward. "I don’t know. They were all requested by her."
Candice was still carrying some nutritional supplements on the other hand. "Since I'm already here, would it be convenient for me to just visit your sister?"
When she went up, Hanley's sister was leaning on the bed rest. By her side was a foreigner carefully applying lipstick for her.
Hanley's sister was Hannah Baldwin. Hearing the situation from Hanley, Candice had originally thought that Hannah would be severely injured.
Hannah was talking to the foreigner when they entered, but when she spotted Hanley, her eyes immediately lit up. "Do you have the things?"
Hanley and Hannah were quite alike. Although Hannah was in a patient gown and her head was bandaged, it could still be seen that she was a very beautiful woman.
Her voice was crisp too. Hanley said that Hannah was three years older than him, but because some fortune teller had said she had a bad life ahead, she was raised as a boy instead.
After Hannah and Hanley exchanged greetings, she noticed Candice beside him, and surprise lit up her face.
She happily looked at the foreign man next to her. "Yuric, see, I was right. As long as I get Hanley to buy women’s products, I'm sure we can see his girlfriend!"
The man called Yuric looked helpless as he glanced at Hanley. "Sorry, your sister said you must have a girlfriend, so I made a bet with her."
Candice watched as Hannah's demeanor suddenly changed. Holding the nutritional supplements in her hand, she felt somewhat bewildered. It seemed that Hannah did not really need them.
While she was lost in thought, Yuric had already helped Hannah to sit up. She looked at Candice with joy. "It's good that Hanley's preferences go along with mine. He likes pretty girls." She looked at Candice intently. "What's your name, sister-in-law? How old are you? When did you start dating Hanley?"
