CHAPTER 22: Doctor

– LIA –

Kelleon didn’t let go of my hand even if we’re already inside his car. He was driving back to my house using his left hand while his right hand is intertwined with mine. I even tried to remove my hand from him, but he would just hold on tighter.

“Kelleon,” I called him. His eyes are still focused on the road. “I think it will be better if you will be focused on the road instead of,” I stopped for a moment and looked at our hands. “Holding my hand.”

“I am… focused on the road,” he said without looking at me.

I sighed and used my right hand to remove his. Like earlier, he held on tighter to my hand. He turned his head and glared at me.

“Kelleon, we’re inside the car. I won’t leave,” I told him while still trying to remove his hand from me.

“You won’t leave, and I know that,” he responded. “But mi amor, someone can open that door while we’re moving and get you out of this vehicle.”Original from NôvelDrama.Org.

I want to tell him that he’s being paranoid. However, I know that he’s right. Being in the police service for several years, I know that someone can do that.

A long silence covered the whole ride. When we were stuck between the traffic, Kelleon broke the silence.

“Alejandro is here with his butler,” he said, making me turn my head to him.

“Do you know the reason why he’s here?” I asked him. Of course, there has to be a reason why Alejandro is here. Maybe a vacation? Business meeting? I want to think of the lightest reason why.

“Cloud said that he’s here to check the hotel he’s constructing,” Kelleon answered.

I nodded at him. It’s about business, and not about me or Dennise.

With that thought, something crossed on my mind.

“How about Dennise? Did he bring her here?” I asked. The car moved forward as Kelleon moved the steering wheel.

“Base on our investigations, no. That’s why I sent some of my men to check Alejandro’s mansion in Spain,” he said.

I understand what he’s planning to do. “He won’t be there to supervise his wife. It’s a good time to infiltrate his house.”

“It won’t be easy,” he replied to me as he turned the car towards the opposite direction to my house. “Infiltrating his house and having someone to spy on him will be a long process.”

“Alejandro is too cautious on everyone he meet. There are only few servers on his mansion but there are a lot of guards inside and outside,” he added.

“Then, why don’t you send a spy guard?” I asked as if that was the simplest answer.

He shook his head. “Base on Cloud’s report, the guards who are allowed inside their mansion are those who already worked for him for more than five years. Those who are not are assigned on the outside perimeters,” he answered.

My jaw dropped on his explanation. Because I can’t think of an answer, I leaned my back to the seat and started thinking of ways on how we can maximize the investigation. It’s the best time they have!

“Wait!” I shouted but it didn’t even move Kelleon a little bit. “This is not the way to my house!”

He sighed. “Yes, I know.”

“Then why are we going here?” I asked, giving him a sharp look.

He swerved the car to the right as it entered the skyway. “You will be staying in my rest house, mi amor.”

I looked at him flatly. “Why would I? I have my own house.”

He removed his hand from the steering wheel, turning the car to automatic mode. “He might find you there. It will be safer if you’ll stay with me,” he answered.

“Besides, your friends told me to take care of you and keep you safe,” he smirked at me as if he was so amused with that idea.

“Am I still going to work? Can I still meet up with my friends? Go outside?” I asked several questions continously.

His thumb carressed my hand. “As much as I don’t want to hide you, I have to. You won’t go outside for a while. And if you will, I have to be with you.”

I was sad and happy at the same time. Sad, because I won’t be able to solve cases and meet my friends. Happy, because I will be with Kelleon at any time.

“I’m fine with it. I’ll just inform my senior. I’m sure she will understand,” I said and was about to grab my phone when Kelleon spoke.

“There’s no need to do that. I already talked to your senior. Also, I gave her some of the files that contain our investigation,” he said. “Detective Javier was more than willing to help so I assigned her to investigate deeper on the hotels that Denisse Cantos use when she was still here.”

I put my phone back to the bag. I didn’t even know that he did that. Maybe that’s why my senior told me to just hide from everyone who know Denisse as much as I can and let her do the rest.

After some minutes of driving and talking about random stuff, we arrived in a secluded place. It’s kind of far from the main highway and the surroundings is full of trees.

Two guards opened the huge metallic gate in front of us. Kelleon continued to drive and all that I can see are trees. It was a long, wide path. On the end of it was a huge open space with a large fountain in the middle.

Behind the fountain is a two-storey house, which is so big that I can compare it to a mansion of palace.

I stepped outside of the car when Kelleon opened it for me. He touched my back and guided me while walking towards the huge black door of the house.

As Kelleon opened it, he spoke. “Welcome to my rest house, mi amor.”

Grand and glamorous. That is how I describe the interior of the house. A huge open living space greeted me. Kelleon motioned me to sit in a sofa. He told me to just wait there.

While I was waiting for him, my eyes explored the whole place. On the right side of the living room is the kitchen and dining area. On the other side is another living area that is more closed. There are various doors on the hallway.

What caught my attention is the view behind the glass sliding doors in front of the open living space. It has the view of the ocean and mountains from a far. I also noticed the large infinity pool outside.

“This is your rest house?” I asked Kelleon when he arrived with a pitcher full of juice and some light snacks.

“Yeah,” he answered as he sat beside me. “Did you like it?”

I nodded. “This is too beautiful. I haven’t seen the other parts of the house but I’m sure that they’re grand like this,” I answered him. “This is too beautiful for a rest house. This is too huge for one person. Is there another person living here?”

He smiled at me. “Yes. You.”

I furrowed my eyebrows. “I don’t live here. I’ll just stay here until this problem about Dennise is solved,” I answered.

“But you like this house, right?” he asked the second time.

“Yes. Very much.”

“Then you’ll live here.”

I want to ask him more and clarify that but he got up and walked to the second floor. I just focused my attention to the snacks while waiting for him.

It didn’t take long for him to come down. He was carrying a folder. He sat down again beside me and handed over the folder.

“That folder is the original report that Cloud gave to me,” he explained.

“He found out that before Denisse Cantos disappeared, she went to International Christian Hospital in Taguig for several times within eight months,” he added.

I read the files. The ICH is one of the largest private hospital in the country. They offered a lot of services. May it be dental, neurogical, cardial, or any other type of hospital services. Their fees are just too expensive, though.

But, why would Denisse Cantos go to that hospital? There are a lot of much effective and cheaper hospitals in Spains.

“The only record she has in the hospital is when he visited Doctor Adrian Andres for an eye check up,” he said. I raised my eyebrows because there’s something wrong on the record.

“I though she went there several times? Why is there only one record of her?” I asked.

“That record is the only one that has a doctor’s or nurse’s name with it. Her other entries are just written in the hospitals log book,” he answered, which made me question more.

“Why would she go to the same hospital, several times if she would only have a transction to a doctor once?” I asked. “The only reason I can see here is she’s visiting someone there.”

Kelleon sighed. “I also thought of that, but there was no record of her visiting someone. It’s like she entered the hospital and done nothing.”

“Or maybe, she did something. But someone erased those traces,” I murmured.

“That can be true,” he responded.

I turned my head to him after I saw the Doctor Andres’ face on the file. “Did you already talk to this doctor?” I asked.

He shooked his head. “When Cloud went to the hospital, he found out that Doctor Andres already left. However, no one knows his whereabouts,” he answered. “Until we bumped into this.”

He flipped the next pages and stopped on a missing person report. My eyes widened more as I read the file.

“The doctor was reported missing, just a month after Denisse Cantos disappeared,” he said. “He was never found after that.”

My heart almost fell on what I heard. This case… might not be that shallow as I thought.

“I’m sure that Denisse Cantos has something to do with this! We have to know more about the doctor and the reason why Denisse kept on going to that hospital!” I exclaimed.

He carressed my face and touched my hand to calm me down. “That’s why we’re going to that hospital tomorrow and find more information,” he said while staring at me.

“Don’t worry, mi amor. We’ll solve this together, and I’ll make sure that no one will never hurt you,” he lovingly said as he are foreheads touched together. “Never again.”
