Chapter 68
Margot glanced at her, puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"Hasn't Josh been dreaming of a great-grandkid all this time? It's been three years, and Selena's still not pregnant. But you, you're different."
Wendy reached over and gently touched Margot's stomach. "With this little one on the way, do you really think Josh could turn you away? He can't afford to wait much longer."
If Josh were to live a long life, even if Margot had a child, he might not welcome her into the family. He could even try to nip any issues in the bud before the baby is born.
But now, time's running out for him. As long as Selena remains childless until his final moments, and Margot announces her pregnancy just before he passes, how could he possibly deny her existence?
Margot felt herself calming down after Wendy's analysis.
Wendy continued, "Right now, you need to focus on taking care of yourself and this baby. Don't let anything jeopardize that. And make sure you keep Everett close. Don't give Selena a chance to get pregnant too. Then... you'll be the one who comes out on top!"
Margot looked down at her belly, a fleeting, strange emotion flickering in her eyes. Then she smirked, "You're right. I don't need to get caught up in all that drama with Selena. I'm the one having the baby. The future Mrs. Bennett will be me!"
...
A sleek black Bentley zipped down the highway, heading towards the airport. Everett sat in the backseat, a laptop perched on his knees. After wrapping up his emails, he set it aside.
Rubbing his temples, he asked in a tired voice, "How much longer till we get there?"
Derick glanced at the GPS and replied, "About thirty minutes, Mr. Everett. You didn't get much sleep last night. You could take a quick nap. I'll wake you when we arrive."
Ignoring the suggestion, Everett asked, "How long is the trip this time?"
Derick answered, "A week."
After a moment, he cautiously added, "Shouldn't you let your wife know?" "Do I have to?" Everett asked, almost reflexively.
"Definitely Even couples who are just dating keep each other in the loop. Disappearing without a word can be really unsettling. Plus, knowing each other's whereabouts can be reassuring."
Everett frowned; he hadn't
considered that before. He rarely shared his plans with Selena because in the past, he didn't need to. Selena always managed to figure things out on her own. Besides, he
never thought it was necessary.
He picked up his phone, opened the messaging app, and stared at the screen for a few moments before finally clicking on Selena's chat.
"I'm going on a business trip for a week. Call me if you need anything."
This was pretty much the first time he'd updated her about his schedule since they got married. It felt awkward and uncomfortable. After typing and deleting several times, he finally sent the message. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
He hoped this would make her a bit happier.
Sure enough, his phone dinged almost immediately with a reply from Selena.
Derick beamed, "Mr. Everett, your wife replied right away! I told you it would help."
Seeing them at odds had been tough for him. It's good to see things getting back on track!
A faint smile crossed Everett's face as he thought, "That's the least she could do."
But when he opened the message, his expression hardened, and a chill spread through him. Selena had replied: [Safe travels. Hope you vanish halfway.]
