Chapter 57
Sometimes, you just had to let loose a little to feel better!
After Selena finished her statement, she watched as Everett's handsome face darkened visibly, like someone had spilled ink across a canvas. No man liked being questioned like that, after all. But for Selena, a weight lifted off her chest, and she felt oddly relieved. Everett glared at her, his jaw tight, as he spat out each word, "Selena! Haven't I satisfied you? When you were moaning in bed, you didn't seem to think so!"
Selena's cheeks turning a shade of pink at the memory.
Deep down, she knew it was true. Despite any reluctance to admit it, she and Everett were incredibly compatible in that department, and he never hid the fact that he wanted her. In those heated moments, she sometimes fooled herself into thinking they were actually in love. But she knew better; it was just physical, nothing more.
Selena patted his chest with mock sympathy, not wanting to give him the upper hand. "Did you know that only about sixty percent of women feel satisfied after marriage? Sometimes, we just have to put on a bit of a show to keep up appearances."
"You're not an exception, so don't feel bad. I promise I won't spill the beans. Try to see it as a positive!" she added with a playful grin.
Caught between anger and amusement, Everett quipped, "Should I be grateful for your kindness?"
"No need to thank me, really. But if you're feeling generous, maybe you could bump that five percent of shares to a hopeful ten?" she teased sincerely.
His fists clenched tightly, the veins on his arms standing out as he tried to keep his cool.
Just then, the door swung open, and Jaime peeked out, phone in hand, ready to call them. Normally, Selena found Jaime a bit annoying, but right now, she was grateful for the interruption. Acting as if nothing had happened, she replied, "We just got here."
Everett's face was still stormy, but he glanced over Jaime's shoulder into the room. Callum was already there, sipping water with a grace that was almost mesmerizing. His dark eyes narrowed slightly as he reached out and took Selena's hand, wrapping his fingers around hers as they walked inside together.
Selena felt a bit awkward but went along with it.
Callum stood. up, gave Everett a nod,
then turned his gaze to Selena, a quick flicker of admiration in his
eyes. In their previous encounterset
she'd either been fresh-faced on wearing a mature look. Today, her light makeup made her look young and charming, a beauty that was hard to ignore.
Smiling slightly, he greeted them, "Everett, Selena, good to see you."Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Everett's brow furrowed slightly, offering a lukewarm response. Selena, however, replied warmly, "Callum, nice to see you again."
For some reason, Everett gave her hand a little squeeze, and she frowned. What was up with him now?
"Alright, let's sit down and chat. I'm starving," Jaime urged.
As they moved toward the dining
a
table, Selena casually pulled out chair to sit, only to hear Everett say in a surprisingly soft voice, "Darling, please, have a seat."
Selena felt a shiver run down her spine and looked over at him. Everett was holding out the chair for her, playing the role of the perfect gentleman. She swallowed hard, confused by his sudden change in demeanor.
'What's his game?' She thought, feeling like she was dealing with two different people.
Catching his eye, she realized it was all an act. Well, money was hard to come by. What choice did she have when she needed it?
She shook off the goosebumps, flashed a sweet smile, and sat down awkwardly, saying, "Thanks, honey."
Everett's lips curled into a slight smile as he sat down as well.
Jaime's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked between the two of them. "Since when did you two become so lovey-dovey?" he asked, incredulous.
