Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 48

Everett paused for a moment, his dark eyes narrowing as he scanned her from head to toe, a cold smirk playing on his lips. "It's not appropriate," he said. Well, at least he had a bit of self-awareness, saving her the trouble of having to explain further.

Selena was just about to politely tell him to get lost when he spoke again, this time in a tone that was neither warm nor cold. "Before the divorce, we need to avoid any rumors reaching Grandpa, so I'm not planning on sleeping in separate rooms. If sharing a bed isn't your preference, then..."

"You can choose between the floor or the couch."

Selena's mind went blank. "What?"

"You...," she started, almost thinking she must have misheard. "Not only are we not sleeping in separate rooms, but you're also suggesting I take the floor or the couch?"

This guy sure had a knack for pushing her buttons every single day!Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.

Fuming, she couldn't hold back. "Everett, you're not acting like a real man!"

His expression didn't change at all, but suddenly, he leaned in closer to her. Before she knew it, he had pinned her down and trapped her in his arms.

Selena's heart skipped a beat as she tried to push him away, but he didn't budge an inch. He looked down at her with a teasing smile. "You don't want the floor or the couch?"

"Obviously not! Why don't you take them?" Selena shot back without thinking.

"Alright then, if you're insisting on sharing the bed, let's do that," he replied smoothly.

How did he even make that leap?

Selena's heart raced, her cheeks flushing red with anger. The difference in strength between them was obvious, and she couldn't push him away, let alone kick him out of the bed or the room.

As they wrestled, Everett's robe loosened, showing off his well-toned chest and abs. Selena wasn't much better off; her pajamas had slipped, revealing her smooth collarbone and shoulders.

The night was still, their breathing

She frowned, knowing full well he was no gentleman, and who knew what could happen if this went on?

"Fine, I'll take the couch, alright?" Selena relented, exasperated. "Can you please get off me now?"

Everett's eyes flickered with a brief, unreadable emotion, but he finally released her.

With a determined look, Selena grabbed her pillow and a blanket, moved to the couch, and lay down with her back to him.

Luckily, the couch she'd picked out was spacious and incredibly comfy.

Anyway, it wasn't like she'd be on the couch forever. Considering how rarely Everett came home after they got married, she probably wouldn't have to deal with this more than a handful of times over the next six months.

With that, she closed her eyes, feeling somewhat satisfied.

When she woke up the next morning, she was shocked to find herself back in bed. Sitting up with the blanket clutched to her chest, she looked around, bewildered.

When she turned her head, she realized Everett was already gone.

What on earth happened? Did she sleepwalk back onto the bed in the middle of the night? It couldn't have been Everett who brought her back. Irritated, she ran her fingers through her hair. This would only inflate his ego.

All because of this ridiculously tempting mattress!

She checked her phone and saw it was almost noon - no wonder her stomach was growling.

After a quick freshen-up, she headed downstairs, ready to ask Ava for some breakfast. But she stopped in her tracks, surprised by what she saw.
