Chapter 114
He didn't need her for any other reason than the urgent need to see Josh, and he needed her cooperation, so he decided to give her a pass for now!
Selena was pretending to sleep, but she had been wide awake until dawn last night. Now, exhaustion finally took over, and she drifted off to sleep. When she woke up, the plane had just touched down at Newport Airport.
A car was already waiting in the parking lot. Everett and Selena got off the plane, slipped into the car, and made their way to the hospital.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
As they stepped into the hospital room, an ashtray came flying towards Everett like a bolt of lightning. It was aimed right at his forehead, but without even blinking, he tilted his head, and the ashtray whizzed past him, crashing into the door with a loud bang.
The noise made Selena hold her breath for a few seconds. If that had hit him, there'd definitely be blood. What was Josh thinking?
Josh sat up in bed, glaring at Everett, his face flushed with anger. "You little rascal, you dare to dodge?"
Everett stepped forward, his voice calm. "Grandpa, what's got you so worked up? Please, you need to take care of your health." "You've got some nerve asking that!" Josh struggled to get up from the bed. "What did you and Selena do at the wedding?!"
"How could you treat Selena like that? She's been your wife for three years, and you've done nothing but neglect her. Yet, she's stood by you, keeping up appearances for your sake. And there you were, in front of everyone, defending that no-good woman over her. Are you trying to drive me to an early grave?"
His words were so heated that he started coughing violently. Selena was taken aback, realizing Josh was angry on her behalf. In the Bennett family Josh was the only one who truly cared for her. Her heart warmed, and she rushed to his side. "Grandpa, please, calm down. Your health is what's important."
Everett seemed taken aback by the revelation, his gaze turning cold as he looked at Selena. "Did you say something?"
He had made sure to keep the
incident under wraps, and those who
were there would have respected his wishes and not gossiped about Josh. Besides, Josh's hospital visitors were few and far between. He recalled Selena trying to stop him that day, mentioning something about Grandpa finding out.
Selena was initially stunned, and then a chill ran through her. Since their marriage, no matter what went wrong, Everett always pointed the finger at her, assuming she was to blame!
Before she could defend herself,
Josh stood protectively in front of
her, firing back, "Don't you dare blame Selena. She didn't tell me anything. It was Thomas who spilled the beans during a visit. There are no secrets in this world!"
Fueled by anger, he swung his cane at Everett. Even in his illness, Josh's strength was formidable, and the solid wood cane made Everett grunt, his brow furrowed in pain.
"You disrespect Selena, and you're disrespecting me. I won't rest until I've dealt with you, you ungrateful boy!"
As Selena watched it unfold, she felt a knot of worry in her stomach. She pleaded, "Grandpa, please stop. Everett... he just made a mistake that any man might make."
"It's okay, as long as he's willing to come home, that's enough." As she spoke, her eyes filled with tears.
