Married to the Boss: A Love in Disguise Chapter 227

Harry and Ruby were in a heated argument, but Lumma and Adam barely spoke.

With a top boss in the car, Lumma focused solely on driving, not daring to take her eyes off the road.

Adam, sitting in the passenger seat, tried several times to strike up a conversation with her, but couldn’t find a suitable topic.

He knew very well that if he wanted Lumma to engage in conversation, it had to be about work, or she might brush him off with a vague excuse about personal matters.

Sometimes, he felt as if he, the boss, needed to please her, the assistant.

Thinking about all this, he shook his head in frustration…

There was nothing he could do about it. His legal wife was Lumma after all. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

Lumma noticed his demeanor. “Mr. Hills, is something wrong?”

Adam smiled. “Just thought of something funny.”

Lumma said, “I see.”

Adam asked, “Aren’t you curious about what’s funny?”

Lumma asked, “Can I ask?”

Adam said, “You can ask me anything, consider me your friend, no need to be formal.”

Lumma chuckled, but didn’t ask any further.

Consider Adam as a friend?

Lumma pondered the possibility but decided it was best not to entertain such thoughts.

Lately, Adam had been good to her, but she couldn’t overstep her boundaries and forget her role as his assistant.

The relationship she found most comfortable with him was that of a boss and subordinate.

All she needed to do was to obey his orders and get things done, without any personal feelings getting involved.

Otherwise, if he ever decided to withhold her salary in the future, it would be awkward for her to demand it.

Of course, Adam couldn’t fathom Lumma’s peculiar train of thought. He quietly waited for her to ask a question, but when it didn’t come, he tried to change the subject. “By the way, Keeley has

safely reached her destination, and George won’t be bothering her for now.”

Mentioning Keeley, Lumma’s attitude changed noticeably. “Mr. Hills, thank you for helping Keeley get to where she wanted to be. She didn’t bring her phone, and she’s afraid to use her bank card, can

I trouble your men to give her one of my bank cards?”

Adam raised his hand, wanting to ruffle Lumma’s hair but thought better of it. “Silly girl, Keeley is not as naive as you. She was prepared to run away, so she brought cash with her, enough to last for

some time. She even bought a new phone with a sim card registered under a different name. Anything you didn’t think of, she has.”

“Knowing she prepared so well, I feel relieved.” Lumma took a deep breath. “Sigh, Keeley started planning her escape route right after getting married. Do you know what awful things that bastard George did to her?”

In Adam’s view, George probably loved Keeley, but he just chose the wrong approach. “It’s not our place to discuss other people’s marital issues.”

“Alright.” Lumma dropped the subject. After a while, Lumma spoke up seriously. “Mr. Hills, can you grant me a small favor?”

“Go ahead.” Adam had been waiting for Lumma to ask him for something, and he finally got his

chance.

Lumma turned her head to look at Adam, and said very seriously, “Could you please stop calling me silly girl? You should know, the more you call someone silly, the more they become it. If you don’t want your assistant to turn into a silly one, you should compliment me more. If you praise me for being smart, I’ll become smarter, and who knows, maybe in the future, I could do the work of multiple assistants.”

This made Adam burst into laughter.
